EVERY CUISINE, EVERY BUDGET, EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD, CHICAGO’S RESTAURANT SCENE HAS YOU COVERED. FROM FINE DINING TO CLASSIC COMFORT FOOD, YOUR VISIT TO CHICAGO IS SURE TO BE IN GOOD TASTE.
MAGGIANO’S LITTLE ITALY
Since opening the first location in downtown Chicago in 1991, Maggiano’s has strived to make its experience reminiscent of a Sunday-night dinner at your grandmother’s house. Comfortable, familystyle dining has always been at the forefront of Maggiano’s atmosphere, and the hearty Italian recipes are authentic and simple. And large. You can’t go wrong sharing any number of menu items with your table, but Johnny’s carbonara and the veal marsala hold a special place in our hearts. 516 N. Clark. 312-644-7700. Maggianos.com
POP’S BEEF
Serving Chicagoland since 1980, this perennial south suburban favorite expanded to the north side for the first time in 2017, setting up shop in the Old Town neighborhood just north of downtown. Casual and quick, they’re famous for turning Chicago food staples — especially Italian beef, Polish sausage and loaded hot dogs — into an art form. Don’t even think about leaving the counter without adding a gigantic sack of fries and thick shake to your order. And it’s widely believed that a cup of their hearty chili can cure whatever ails you on a wintery Chicago day. 157 W. North Ave. 312-265-0232. PopsBeef.com
HUTCH AMERICAN BISTRO AND HUTCH AMERICAN CAFE
With two locations — serving Lakeview on the North Side and River North downtown — and a third on the way in the quaint Andersonville neighborhood, this 26
restaurant group has made a name for itself rather quickly under the guidance of Chef Marc Wuenchel, whose philosophy for a restaurant and menu can best be described as “craveable comfort.” Hutch Café focuses solely on brunch and happy hour, while Hutch Bistro offers dinner as well. Both serve up American classics (think double-cut pork chops, egg skillets, lobster nachos or fried chicken and corn waffles), that are as impressive in flavor as they are in portion size. Hutch American Café is located at 416 W. Ontario. 312-300-4195. Hutch American Bistro is located at 3301 N. Clark. 773-248-1155. HutchChicago.com
CHICAGO CUT
Considering the assortment of USDA Prime steaks, dry-aging room, fresh seafood, innovative side dishes to share, a stellar wine list and a dazzling view of the Chicago skyline and river, it’s easy to see why Chicago Cut, blending modern and traditional styles, has become one of the premier restaurants in the city. The lobsterscargot appetizer (Maine lobster tail pieces in garlic butter with havarti) comes highly recommended, as does the filet mignon and bone-in ribeye. Don’t be surprised if you witness a celebrity sighting or two as well. 300 N. LaSalle. 312-329-1800. ChicagoCutSteakhouse.com

WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN, CHICAGO REALLY HEATS UP! FROM THE BRIGHT LIGHTS OF THE STAGE TO THE LOW LIGHTS CHICAGO’S INTIMATE CLUBS, THE CITY IS ALIVE WITH MUSIC AND EXCITEMENT ALL NIGHT LONG.
CHICAGO CRIME TOURS — NIGHT CRIMES TOUR
There’s no denying Chicago’s crime-filled past, and now you can delve deep into the “dark side” of the Windy City with this 2.5-hour, bus-operated tour that explores the city’s infamous crime scenes and follows in the footsteps of mobsters like Al Capone, John Dillinger and Bugs Moran. You’ll even stop by a few watering holes and the Biograph Theater to add to the nostalgia. Advance reservations are recommended. The bus boards outside of 163 E. Pearson, and tickets are $45. 312-888-6224. ChicagoCrimeTours.com
LIVE MUSIC AND MORE AT THALIA HALL
This historic landmark venue in the Pilsen neighborhood was originally founded at the turn of the century by John Dusek as a multi-purpose property to serve the community. Restaurateurs Bruce Finkelman and Craig Golden took over the property in 2013, launching Dusek’s Board and Beer (neighborhood restaurant that expertly pairs beer and food), Punch House (a punch-focused cocktail bar) and Thalia Hall, which, as one of the more ornate theaters of its time, was originally modeled after the Prague opera house when it was built in 1892. 34
It’s now home to a wide array of regular music and artistic events. 1807 S. Allport. 312-526-3851. ThaliaHallChicago.com
GINO’S BREWPUB AND COMEDY BAR
As if their iconic deep-dish pizza wasn’t enough, the Gino’s East location in River North offers up its own brewpub, with a variety of craft beer brewed right on site, as well as the Comedy Bar, a cozy venue on the third floor featuring local stand-up and national acts. That may be the Chicago trifecta, actually — pizza, craft beer and comedy. Enjoyed all in one place. 500 N. LaSalle. 312-988-4200. GinosBrewPub.com
CAROLE KING: THE MUSICAL
The captivating life story of one of pop music’s greatest performers and songwriters hits the stage again in Chicago. Long before she was the chart-topping music legend Carole King, she was Carol Klein, a passionate Brooklyn girl who fought her way into the rough-and-tumble music business as a teenager. Labeled “a joyous celebration” and “smart and well-crafted” by critics, Beautiful is the true story of one of the most successful songwriters and solo acts in music history. BAR SIENA
832 W. Randolph. 312-492-7775. Dinner menu: $44 Located in the heart of the hopping West Loop neighborhood, Bar Siena is an 8,000-square-foot establishment with a menu inspired by Italian street food and dishes made from scratch. For the opening course, choose between taleggio focaccia (with stracchino cheese, arugula, truffle honey and sea salt), roasted meatballs and smoked mozzarella croquettes. A second course consists of a decision between a hearty potato soup, shaved butternut squash salad with a cherry pumpkin seed vinaigrette, and a kale and granny smith apple salad. Then comes the featured event, the third-course choice of either short rib lasagna, prosciutto fig pizza, roasted chicken with spicy charred broccolini or a seared king salmon. If possible, save room for either bomboloni or gelato for dessert.
TEXAS DE BRAZIL
210 E. Illinois. 312-595-0913. Dinner menu: $33 The unique concept of this popular chain involves rodizio-style service, which means diners enjoy a parade of meats brought tableside as well as an extravagant seasonal salad area. For starters, how about a bowl of warm lobster bisque, followed by a chance 38

to load up at the 50-item gourmet salad bar that includes seasonal salads, crisp smoked bacon, potato salad, sushi, steamed asparagus in orange sauce, jasmine rice and more. Then the fun begins. Turn your card from red to green, and prepare to get spoiled by carvers making the rounds with various cuts of rack of lamb, filet mignon, braised beef ribs, Brazilian sausage, parmesan-crusted pork loin and more, straight from the fire to your table. Meat service is continuous, meaning guests can have as much as they like.
FIG & OLIVE
104 E. Oak. 312445-0060. Dinner menu: $44 Located in the Gold Coast, Fig & Olive pays homage to the Provence region of France. Believers in the magic of the Mediterranean diet, these chefs concentrate on the simplest, freshest ingredients to feed body and mind equally. For an addition $8, you can start things off with a crostini tasting, but otherwise you’ll begin your culinary adventure with a choice of carrot and ginger soup, the Fig & Olive salad (manchego, gorgonzola dolce, apple tomatoes, olives, scallions and walnuts), mushroom croquette or the salmon tartare. The main course is a major decision: truffle risotto, Riviera salmon, Fig & Olive tajine (chicken, vegetables, almond, couscous, harissa), the moulard magret duck breast (add $6) or the grassfed filet mignon (add $8). Don’t forget your sweet tooth. Olive oil cake (with pistachio whipped citrus marscapone) or chocolate pot de crème (crunchy hazelnut praline and vanilla cream) will finish off your night in style.
