Alvin Ailey dance returns through March 11
Six breathtaking performances are on the docket for March 7-11 during Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s annual engagement at the Auditorium Theatre, the company’s home for nearly five decades. Featured are a total of three different programs of relevant, stirring new works, including the Chicago premiere of Jamar Roberts’ Members Don’t Get Weary, which was labeled “striking” by the New York Times, as well as a new production of Chicagoraised choreographer Talley Beatty’s Stack-Up. Every performance ends with Alvin Ailey’s Revelations, considered a “modern classic” that has been enjoyed by more people than any other contemporary dance work. Alvin Ailey has six performances from March 7-11. Call 312-341-2300 or visit AuditoriumTheatre.org for ticket information. 4

REVOLUTION BREWPUB
It doesn’t take a genius go realize the craft beer movement has officially taken over, and nowhere is this tasty trend more prevalent than right here in Chicago. Revolution Brewery has been a consistent driving force behind that with its popular AntiHero IPA and the brewpub in Logan Square, adorned with a classic tin ceiling and offering a great menu and lively, casual vibe. We recommend the bacon-fat popcorn, monster burgers, smoked pulled pork and fish and chips with a honeyjalepeno slaw. Tasty stuff indeed. Besides AntiHero, their robust, chocolaty Eugene Porter and the Bottom Up Wit, a Belgian-style wheat beer spiced with coriander and orange peel, are two other favorites. Revolution’s brewpub is at 2323 N. Milwaukee in Logan Square. The brewery, with tastings, tours and event space, is located about a mile north at 3340 N. Kedzie. www.RevBrew.com 34

everything is greener
THE CHICAGO FLOWER & GARDEN SHOW HITS NAVY PIER MARCH 14-18 BY TRENT MODGLIN It’s time to think about spring. And summer, for that matter. Green grass. Perfectly manicured gardens. Colorful flowers in full bloom, soaking up the sun. Helping expedite those visions is the annual Chicago Flower & Garden Show, a tradition that can be traced back to 1847, when it was created as an exhibition of the city’s valued fruits and flowers. Today, suffice it to say, the event is slightly larger, focused on inspiring, educating and motivating the next generation of gardener so they can go home and add some color and variety to their backyard, rooftop or kitchen. This five-day event will feature more than 20 life-sized gardens you can explore, daily do-it-yourself workshops, instructional seminars and a diverse marketplace. It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned green thumb, complete novice or have your family of five with you — there’s something for everyone here as we all look forward to warmer weather ahead. This event is held March 14-18 in Festival Halls A and B at Navy Pier. Wednesday-Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information on the Chicago Flower & Garden Show, visit ChicagoFlower.com 38
