you don’t have to be a football fan to appreciate the appeal of Super Bowl Sunday as an unofficial national holiday. after all, months removed from the celebratory block of Christmas and New year’s – not to mention any reasonable hope for warmer, more inviting weather – even the staunchest sports holdout has to have a little bit of love for any excuse to gather together and throw a party. of course, here in Chicago the unappealing aftertaste of a what-could-havebeen season for our beloved Bears may cast a slight pall on the day’s festivities, but if we can’t cheer on the home team just down the road in Indianapolis this sunday, at least there are still plenty of great places to catch the big game (and a big meal) while dreaming of next year. from football-focused outposts like Mike Ditka’s Restaurant (100 e. Chestnut; 312/5878989) and Shula’s Steak House (301 e. North Water; 312/670-0788) to Chicago sports-themed originals like Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse (33 W.
