THE BODYGUARD The tradition of musical stories that jump from the stage to the screen is a long and rich one, but recent years have seen something of a reverse commute in this trend, with more and more big-screen hits traveling from the multiplex to the Great White Way. The latest in this line of screen-tostage transfers arrives in Chicago this week, as R&B star Deborah Cox takes on the role that Whitney Houston made famous in the 1992 film The Bodyguard. Not only is the stage version built upon the same combination of romance and thrills that helped make the movie a blockbuster, it also features the same big songs – including “Run to You,” “Saving All My Love” and, of course, “I Will Always Love You” – that made the movie so memorable. The Bodyguard continues its run this week at the Oriental Theatre, 24 W. Randolph. Call 312.977.1700 for tickets ($41-$102) and a full schedule of performances. 4
