This Week In Chicago
27 FRIDAY
ON THE COVER FUNNY BUSINESS Chicago’s comedy scene is legendary, with everything from sketch to standup flourishing on stages and in bars and clubs all around the city every night of the week. And it’s only getting busier, thanks to the recent opening of The Comedy Bar inside the burgeoning nightlife complex of Gino’s East River North. Now in addition to great Chicago-style pizza and house-made craft beers, some of the best standup comedians in the city can be found under the same roof, with hilarious sets Wednesdays through Saturdays. This week’s featured funnyman is Chicago’s own Sean Flannery, performing at 8pm and 10pm on Friday and Saturday and Forrest Shaw on Thursday, March 5 at 8pm. The Comedy Bar is located at 500 N. LaSalle. Call 312.836.0499, or visit comedybarchicago.com for tickets and more information.

Celebrating Diversity
Photos clockwise from top left: DuSable Museum, Black Creativity Innovation Studio and Skydeck Chicago.
While many folks prefer to hunker down and hibernate at this time of year, it’s actually a perfect time to get out and see something that might give you a wider perspective on the world. For instance, Black History Month is a great reason to head down to Hyde Park to check out the rich collections of the DUSABLE MUSEUM (740 E. 56th; 773.947.0600). From there, catch a free Museum Campus South shuttle and take in the new hands-on, invention-oriented Black Creativity Innovation Studio and much more at the MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY (5700 S. Lake Shore; 773.684.1414). For a more literal “wide perspective,” head back downtown to see the whole city – including Hyde Park and beyond – with the amazing vistas from high atop the Willis Tower afforded by the 103rd-floor SKYDECK CHICAGO (233 S. Wacker; 312.875.9696).

Delicious Diversity Awaits
Photos clockwise from top left: Chicago Curry House, Bella Luna and Star of Siam.
One of the great things about Chicago’s dining scene is how many diverse ethnicities are represented, all of which offer unique and delectable ways to warm the body and soul with a great dining experience. For a wonderful Indian feast – prepared as spicy as you’d like to help take off the chill – look no further than CHICAGO CURRY HOUSE (899 S. Plymouth; 312.362.9999). Meanwhile, steaming bowls of pasta and plates of warm bread await at the cozy River North Italian favorite BELLA LUNA (731 N. Dearborn, 312.751.2552). Finally, Chicago’s rich Asian heritage is deliciously represented by the flavorful Thai specialties at STAR OF SIAM (11 E. Illinois; 312.670.0100).
