March is always a tough month to peg in Chicago – lambs and lions aside, it’s more of a day-to-day proposition as to whether we’re in the last throes of winter or the early onset of spring. But even as the chill holds on, there are plenty of great places to warm up your insides. Start the day right with a warm and wonderful breakfast at HASH HOUSE A GO GO (1212 N. State, 312.202.0994). For lunch or dinner, nothing says “comfort food” like the legendary three-concept ITALIAN VILLAGE (71 W. Monroe, 312.332.7005), a landmark Loop dining destination for almost 90 years. Of course, no visit to Chicago is complete without a taste of the legendary cuts at a classic steak palace like the CHICAGO CHOP HOUSE (60 W. Ontario; 312.787.7100).

Editor’s Choice Undecided about St. Patrick’s Day festivities? Here are a few of our favorites...
A Touch of Irish This year’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities get started a few days early, with the weekend of March 13 and 14 serving as the kickoff of a weeklong party! Saturday starts with the traditional dyeing of the Chicago River at around 9:30am near Michigan and Wacker. A few hours later, dozens of colorful floats, marching bands and dancers will step off from Balbo and Columbus in the 60th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 12pm (312.942.9188). For a unique way to experience it all, Wendella Boats will take you right out on the green waters of the River (9am; $35.50; 400 N. Michigan; 312.337.1446), while the Shoreline Sightseeing St. Patrick’s Day Lunch Cruises feature terrific views and even better corned beef and cabbage (10am and 2pm; $49; 600 E. Grand, 312.222.9328). On Sunday, head down to the ethnic Beverly enclave for the city’s traditional “neighborhood” celebration, as the big South Side Irish Parade marches down Western from 103rd to 115th at noon (773.916.7747). 54
