This Week In Chicago

15 FRIDAY

ON THE COVER A TALE OF GOOD & EVIL The Broadway preproduction of a four time Tony-nominated musical Jekyll & Hyde will be playing for two weeks at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph). The performance is based off of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella about a London doctor who promises his mentally ill father that he will find a cure for him during the late 19th century. Dr. Henry Jekyll believes that he can develop a drug that isolates negative personality traits, making them easier to remove. He proposes his idea to the hospital board, and they refuse to support it. Dr. Jekyll believes so firmly in this drug, that he proceeds with his plan and tests it on himself, which creates his evil alternate personality, Edward Hyde. The show runs for two weeks of performances. Tickets are $33–$95. Tues.-Fri., 7:30pm; Sat., 2pm and 8pm; Sun., 2pm. Additional performances Sun. March 17 at 7:30pm and Wed. March 20 at 2pm. Call 800.775.2000 for tickets or visit BroadwayInChicago.com.

Enjoying the Classics

Chicago may be a hip and trendy city... but sometimes it’s nice to relax and enjoy the finer things in life, the things that never go out of style. Enjoy a favorite cigar from IWAN RIES (19 S. Wabash, 312.372.1306). Cigars not you thing? This smoke shop, a five-generation family-owned business, offers a variety of tobacco, pipes and accessories. Relax with your cigar or pipe while listening to some classic blues and jazz from Chicago’s classic record shop JAZZ RECORD MART (27 E. Illinois, 312.222.1467). Classic activities like knitting and quilting are making a comeback too. Whether quilting throws, or knitting lightweight sweaters, WE’LL KEEP YOU IN STITCHES (67 E. Oak, 312.642.2540) is a great place to pick up your supplies. They recently released their new seasonal colored yarn. The pretty pastels will be a great touch to whatever you make.

A Season for Substitutes...

Chicago restaurants offer a lot of meatless options for those celebrating religious holidays. Start your day with breakfast at YOLK (1120 S. Michigan, 312.789.9655; 747 N. Wells, 312.787.2277; 355 E. Ohio, 312.822.9655). Enjoy their smoked salmon platter or their corned beef hash and eggs. If you are eating later in the day, MOE’S CANTINA (155 W. Kinzie, 312.245.2000,3518 N. Clark, 773.248.0002) is offering a variety of seasonal specials on Wednesdays and Fridays. For a spicy seafood combo, try the Tilapia y Camarones al Diablo, a shrimp and tilapia dish with a little kick to it. Nothing says “Chicago” like deep-dish pizza. Swing by GINO’S EAST (162 E. Superior, 312.266.3337; 633 N. Wells, 312.988.4200). They are well known for their deep-dish pizza oozing with cheese and the vegetarian makes for a great tasting meat-free option.
