SPRING INTO DANCE While most of what inspires Chicagoans to look forward to the arrival of springtime has to do with getting out and enjoying the warmer weather, dance fans are generally more excited by the renewed heat being generated on stage. This is the season, after all, when many of the local dance troupes roll out their spring productions, including the world-renowned and wholly original Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, which this weekend wraps up its residency at the iconic Auditorium Theatre (50 E. Congress). While the program varies from night to night, the constant is a mix of new and company-favorite works combining ballet, modern dance, jazz and African dance into a singular vision, as laid out by longtime Artistic Director Robert Battle. The exhilarating Alvin Ailey spring series concludes this weekend with performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tickets ($33-$103) are available at 312.341.2310. 4
