The weather from day to day may not always confirm it, but there’s no doubt that spring has arrived in Chicago. Looking for a sure sign? Check out the waters of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River, where the forbidding ice floes of just several weeks ago have been replaced in increasing numbers by the welcoming tour boats that signal the unmistakable imminence of summer. Many of those boats, of course, will be the familiar Wendella vessels that have been plying the city’s waterways since 1935. Seven days a week, visitors can learn about Chicago’s rich architectural history and take in the stunning beauty of the city’s skyline aboard one of Wendella’s lively and informative tours. So cruise into spring this week aboard a Wendella lake or river tour departing from the company’s Michigan Avenue Bridge (400 N. Michigan) and Trump Tower (401 N. Wabash) docks. Cruise times vary and range in price from $19-$35.50. Call 312.337.1446 for a full schedule and more information. 4

Pranzi

The newest edition to Chicago’s famed Randolph St. Restaurant District, Formento’s, 925 W. Randolph, 312.690.7295 is a tribute to Partner John Ross’s “nonna.” Authentic recipes such as canestry with Sunday gravy and rabbit cacciatore are sure to please. Big portions, big cocktails and big style epitomize this trendy spot.

Serving the freshest seafood in the city continues to be the specialty of Catch 35, 35 W. Wacker, 312.346.3500. Offering a rotating selection of fresh catches such as Ecuadorian Mahi Mahi, Block Island swordfish, whole lobster and king crab legs as well as prime steaks. LEGENDARY...

Gino’s East

Top on the Bucket List for most visitors is deep-dish pizza and Gino’s East, 162 E Superior, 312.266.3337, 500 N. LaSalle, 312.988.4200 sets the standard. A crisp golden crust, fresh vineripened tomatoes and loads of shredded mozzarella start as the base, what’s added next is completely up to you. We suggest ordering the Chicago Fire, with roasted peppers and red onions.

Bloodies aren’t just for breakfast. One of the best can be found at Eleven City Diner, 1112 S. Wabash, 312.212.1112, 2301 N. Clark, 773.244.1112. This colossal cocktail is a virtual meal-in-a-glass, overflowing with meats and veggies. They even bottle the stuff so all you have add is the vodka and your favorite accoutrements.

Come for the martinis but stay for the steak. Every Thursday, guests will be Swingin’ at Sully’s inside Sullivan’s Steakhouse, 415 N. Dearborn, 312.527.3510. Specials include $7 items from the bar menu, select wines and signature martinis like The Knockout made with Svedka Clementine vodka infused with fresh pineapple.
