OH WHAT A NIGHT!

Huge hits on the pop charts. A Tony award-winning Broadway musical. A Hollywood prestige picture. It’s all pretty heady stuff for a quartet of simple Jersey Boys. But such is the allure of the timeless melodies of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and the appeal of the story of their rise to fame and fortune. Chicago has always been particularly welcoming to both Valli himself and the musical based on his life story. After a long run in its initial touring production here, the hit show returns this week – replete with great songs like “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” and “Oh What a Night” – for a brief spring encore. Jersey Boys opens this week with performances Tuesday through Friday at 7:30pm at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, 151 W. Randolph. Tickets ($32-$87) are available at 312.384.1502 or ticketmaster.com.

GT Fish & oyster

Traditional American seafood restaurants now find it tough to compete with GT Fish & Oyster (531 N. Wells, 312.929.3501) a Michelin starred favorite of residents and tourists alike. Chef Giuseppe Tentori’s menu features share-plates of the adventurous variety: Squid Ink Gnocchi with Maine lobster and chili-infused polenta. Think fisherman’s cottage-meets-sleek yacht.

Rick Bayless’s contemporary take on traditional Mexican cuisine, Frontera Grill, (445 N. Clark, 312.661.1434) recreates the renowned chef’s travels south of the border, indulging in tangy tomatillos and fiery chiles. The local favorite aims to transport your senses to the colorful kitchens of Mexico.

The James Beard Foundation’s 2014’s Rising Star Chef of the Year, Jimmy Bannos Jr. of The Purple Pig (500 N. Michigan, 312.464.1744), has been doling out the very best of charcuterie, cheeses and classic Mediterranean fare. Tender variations of pork star in practically every plate, paired with a surprisingly affordable selection of fine wines that, you guessed, will make you purple with delight. keymagazinechicago.com
