Jay Pritzker Pavilion: Architect Frank Gehry’s bold outdoor band shell, with its soaring steel ribbons and state-of-the-art canopied sound system over the lawn, is a breathtaking design. Make Music

If the agenda for your visit to Chicago includes hearing live music, you’ve definitely picked a good week to be here. Because even though this city pulses with the sounds of classical, blues, jazz, rock and more all year long, there’s nothing quite like Make Music Chicago on June 21, when the entire urban area becomes one giant concert hall. Inspired by the 30-year tradition of “Fête de la Musique” in France, this free daylong celebration of “spontaneous musical combustion” encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to join a melodious party that is set to include more than 800 performers in a variety of genres at 75 sites all around the city, including places like Daley Plaza, Millennium Park and Lincoln Park Zoo, as well as 30 city parks and dozens of downtown street corners and plazas. The celebration concludes with a Grand Finale at St. James Cathedral Commons (Huron & Wabash) from 6:30pm–9pm.
