From the sweet to the savory and everything in between - including their crazy, addictive wonuts (think waffle-donut hybrid - yeah) - you know they’re going to be on top of the iron at a place called Waffles Cafe (203 E. Ohio; 312.846.1242), but there's plenty to enjoy among the French toast, pancakes, and eggs as well. Seriously, though, don't leave without getting a wonut or two.

From the delicious diner fare to the sassy staffers, there’s no shortage of fun during dinner and a show at ed Debevic’s (640 N. Wells; 312.664.1707), the River North retro classic that’s been filling bellies and tickling ribs since 1984.

For a quick bite before or after a day of activities at Millennium Park, it’s hard to beat the nearby Brown Bag Seafood (340 E. Randolph; 312.496.3999). But it’s more than just a great location – the delicious “fish shack” fare is the real reason to brown-bag it today. Choose from a variety of seafood options prepared as a sandwich, taco, salad or straightup, then kick back and enjoy!

Connie’s

Get a taste of Chicago history at Connie’s Pizza (1030 N. State; 312.266.6437). Family-owned and operated for more than 50 years, Connie’s is as much a part of the city as the Willis Tower or the Picasso in Daley Plaza, and still one of the best Chicago-style pies in town.

All-American cuisine meets all-American music at the legendary Hard Rock Café (63 W. Ontario, 312.943.2252). Take in the museum-quality memorabilia dotting the walls as you dig into a menu of straightahead classics, including one of the best burgers in the city. On select nights, you may even be able to head outside after dinner for some great live music to cap off an evening that truly rocks.

No visit to Chicago would be complete without a taste of the city’s legendary deep-dish pizza, and few places in town serve it up better than Gino’s east (500 N. LaSalle; 312.988.4200). But there’s more than just piping-hot pie available at this massive River North complex – you’ll also find plenty of fresh craft beer from Gino’s Brewing Company, as well as live standup acts Thursdays through Sundays at the in-house Comedy Bar. keymagazinechicago.com
