Here in Chicago, the Host Committee has been hard at work to make sure you have a great time and feel a part of our vibrant and varied dance community. To that end, the conference is action packed: with Showcase performances that feature 24 of the city’s best dance companies; receptions hosted at fantastic venues around the city; and Dine Arounds at some of Chicago’s best restaurants. In just four days you can get a taste of all the dance, great food, and nightlife our city has to offer, and we hope you enjoy every moment of it. With our new mayor Rahm Emauel a former dancer himself, all of this work is very close to our hearts as Chicagoans.
Our special thanks to KEY Magazine for devoting this issue to us. Enjoy the city and see you in the theater!
Sincerely, Brett Batterson, Patti Eylar, Gail Kalver Chicago Host Committee Co-Chairs

Ships Ahoy! There are dozens of sightseeing boats plying the waters of Lake Michigan this time of year, but for a tour that literally towers above the rest, it’s hard to top the Tall Ship Windy. True to its moniker, this handsome 148-foot schooner takes advantage of the plentiful breeze just off the shoreline to give riders a unique sailing experience. Of course, the views of the city’s magnificent skyline are exquisite, but don’t be surprised to see more than a few landlubbers gazing right back at you, taking in the rare sight of a tall ship once again traversing our Midwestern waters. Themed cruises run daily and include Spirit Ships and Haunted Harbors, an “Aaarghitecture” Cruise and more. Navy Pier, 700 E. Grand. 312/595-5555. Get 2-for-1 tickets with ad on page 28.

Chicago’s Upper Crust For all of the high-concept, highend places that have sprouted up on Chicago’s ever-expanding restaurant landscape of late, most visitors to our fair city still tend to feel like they’ve missed out if they leave without a taste of our signature Big Three – Italian beef, hot dogs and, of course, deep-dish pizza. While there are plenty of places around town serving up these classics, few can match the deliciously historic devotion to the latter of Gino’s East, a true Chicago original where dough, sauce and cheese reign supreme.
