This Week In Chicago
1 FRIDAY
Lollapalooza photos by Ashley Garmon
ON THE COVER WHOLE LOTTA LOLLA What at first might have been a little jarring for many a Chicagoan ten years ago – a weekend takeover of Grant Park by a massive rock festival – has now become an annual tradition. Lollapalooza, Perry Farrell’s one-time nomadic rock carnival, has found a home in the Windy City, and it’s back again this weekend for another go. This year, mainstage veterans Eminem, Kings of Leon and Outkast join up-andcomers like Lorde and Iggy Azalea – plus hundreds of other rock, rap and EDM acts – to once again transform the city’s front yard into one massive concert venue. And there’s more than just music to sate those sun-baked hordes. The festival’s Chow Town area will help keep them nourished with delicious bites and sips from some great Chicago restaurants, including Star of Siam, Billy Goat Tavern and Goose Island Brewery. The fun gets underway on Friday and continues through Sunday, noon–10pm. Jackson and Columbus, 888.512.7469. lollapalooza.com

A City of Epic Portions!
Photos clockwise from top left: Eleven City Diner, Gino’s East, and Brazzaz.
If you haven’t noticed it yet just by the many fun and innovative restaurants lining nearly every block, Chicago loves to eat, and many of the city’s best chefs pride themselves not only on their great dishes, but their generous portions as well. For an old-school delicatessen meal, stop by ELEVEN CITY DINER (1112 S. Wabash; 312.212.1112 and 2301 N. Clark; 773.244.1112), where presentation meets size and comfort. Continue the generosity of Chicago eats at the legendary GINO’S EAST (500 N. LaSalle; 312.988.4200) with a slice of authentic Chicago deep dish pizza (and check out page 61 for a money-saving offer). Hit BRAZZAZ (539 N. Dearborn; 312.595.9000) for an authentic Brazilian steakhouse experience where the many cuts of fire-grilled meat just keep arriving thanks to roving gauchos.
