GENERATIONS OF GLASS Charles Lotton learned the art of glassblowing in 1970, an art that he has since passed on to his sons and grandsons. On Sat., Sep. 29, Lotton celebrates his 77th birthday (and his 42nd year in glassblowing) with a party in the Lotton Gallery on the sixth floor of the 900 Shops (900 N. Michigan, 312.664.6203). Taking place from 3pm to 7pm, the party is a great chance to meet Charles Lotton—regarded by some as “the Tiffany of the 21st century”—as well as two of his sons and grandsons, now great artists in their own right. To commemorate his birthday, the artist has created a unique paperweight and will offer a free paperweight with purchase through Oct. 21. In addition to selling fine glass lamps, vases, bowls, and bottles by the Lotton family and others, Lotton Gallery also sells original paintings from international artists including Alexi Zaitsev, Gyula Siska, and Tang Wei Min.

Interconnected: The Sculptures of Yvonne Domenge Striving to represent underlying patterns in what may outwardly seem chaotic, Yvonne Domenge’s sculpture consists of bright, organic shapes, such as Tree of Life, a 16-foot tall bronze sculpture painted bright red. Often referencing the natural world, Domenge’s work reveals a fascination with form and geometry. On display through Oct. 1.

Who isn’t a foodie nowadays? We proudly celebrate great chefs and drink sustainable, biodynamic wines, and try complex cooking techniques (sous vide, anyone?) in our own kitchens. And Chicago has become a culinary destination, with cutting-edge restaurants and chefs around every corner—Rick Bayless (Topolobampo, Frontera Grill, XOCO), Homaro Cantu (MOTO and iNG), Ryan Poli (Tavernita), and Stephanie Izard (The Girl & The Goat), to name a few. All four of these chefs, plus dozens of others, will be featured at Chicago Gourmet, an epicurean festival held in Millennium Park from Sep. 28 to 30. Individual Sat. and Sun. tickets cost $159, and a full weekend pass is $265. The sold-out Hamburger Hop kicks off the event on Millennium Park’s Harris Theater Rooftop, from 6 to 9pm on Sep. 28 (tickets may still be available at third-party ticketing sites), On Sat. and Sun., a separate wine-tasting event, Grand Cru, allows guests to sample some of the world’s finest vintages.
