A Hearty Chicago Appetite

We all know Chicago is known for food that sticks to your ribs, so why not enjoy what we do best while in town. CHICAGO CHOP HOUSE (60 W. Ontario, 312.787.7100) is a taste of true Chicago, offering only USDA Prime steaks that are hand-cut on the premises served charred and bursting with prime-aged flavor. Feel like you’re in a 1940s Italian supper club and cocktail lounge at CLUB LUCKY (1824 W. Wabansia, 773.227.2300). This Italian gem serves up all the classics, including a Chicago favorite Chicken Vesuvio. Opened in the 1960s SU CASA (49 E. Ontario, 312.943.4041) quickly became one of the most popular places for Mexican food in Chicago. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, offering visitors a little slice of Mexico planted in the heart of a great city.

Oktoberfest in Chicago! When it comes to life at the legendary CHICAGO BRAUHAUS (4732 N. Lincoln, 773.784.4444), every day is Oktoberfest. From the steaming plates of sausages to the roaring oompah band and massive steins of beer, a traditional German party is pretty much what the place is all about. Even so, there’s still something extra special about fall, when the slight chill in the air, the colorful tent out front, and the more boisterous crowds help propel the annual “official” celebration of Oktoberfest to a whole new level—in part thanks to the copious amounts of Spaten Oktoberfest beer. Chicago Brauhaus Oktoberfest runs through October 27th, starting at 7pm nightly (except Mon. and Tues.) with music, dancing and even a yodeling contest with prizes!

Editor’s Choice Still undecided about what to do in Chicago? Here is one of our favorites:

Going the distance The running event of the year has finally arrived. The Bank of America Chicago Marathon commences this Sunday, October 13th in Grant Park (at Columbus between Balbo & Monroe) for what has become one of the countries most celebrated races. This year, 45,000 eager competitors claiming residence all over the country, and even the world, will embark on the 26.2-mile course that weaves throughout the entire city of Chicago starting at 7:30am and 8am. Just finishing the marathon is something to celebrate. And you can bet there will be plenty of that going on after the race at the 27th Mile Post-Race Party/Runner Reunite area in Butler Field (NE corner of Columbus & Jackson), which is free and open to the public from 9am. To access this area, spectators must pass through security and bag screening at Gate #1 (Jackson Drive and Michigan Avenue) or Gate #2 (Congress Drive and Michigan Avenue).
