ON THE COVER VIVE LA FRANCE! Just a month before the new movie is scheduled to be released, Les Misérables opens at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph, 800.775.2000). Based on the 1862 novel by Victor Hugo, the musical has been touring for more than a quarter-century with shows all over the world. After a successful 25th-anniversary run in Chicago in Feb. 2011, Les Mis returns to Chicago for just three weeks. Set in 19th-century France, the musical follows Jean Valjean, recently liberated after two decades in prison. Choosing to break his parole, Valjean is chased through both acts by police inspector Javert, amid the rumblings of a revolution. Hear classic songs including “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” “Do You Hear the People Sing,” and “Castle on a Cloud,” as part of the epic tale of the survival of the human spirit.
