INSERTION PROPOSAL

at the ENGINEERNG RESEARCH CENTER, UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI

OBJECTIVE Create a rendezvous point in a building that is memorable for people to use as a meeting point or a rendevous point. Bring a sense of warmth and light in this very symmetrical and relatively dark space.

A

CONCEPT This building is very symmetrical in plan and lacks natural lighting. By introducing a sense of movement, warmth and lightness will elevate this space to create a sense of emotion. The curved wooden seating and artwork that flows from one arch and continue its way over the other breaks the symmetry to give a sense of emotion and a movement. Warmth and lightness is achieved by the use of wood. SOFTWARES USED AutoCad, Rhinoceros, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop

RUMAH GARASI // ROOFTOP LOUNGE SELF INITIATED PROJECT

OBJECTIVE This was a project given over an internship I took over summer. I was asked to do a 3D model of a rooftop lounge on Sketchup, but I continued to develop it and made a furniture layout on AutoCad and Sketchup. CONCEPT ‘Rumah Garasi’ are two Indonesian words that literally translates to “home garage”. Home is a place where you go to for comfort and the garage is where you keep things that you might throw out sometime in the future. The idea is to design a space where people feel like they’re at home where they can have their legs crossed on the sofa, have a cup of coffee, chill and have a good time. It also uses ‘found’ like items to create a garage feel. SOFTWARES USED AutoCad, Sketchup, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop

100+1

4”X8” ARTWORK

OBJECTIVE A study of how an object can connect to one another other without using any adhesive but by manipulating its material. The object could be anything but it has to add up to 100 or more. CONCEPT Materials has its own nature and movement to it. Each candles are melted on its ends and connected to create a triangle. This was repeated 34 times using 104 candles in total. One tip of the triangle is melted and connected and stacked on top of another triangle at a slight rotation. This process was repeated without any intention to create a certain form but letting it takes its shape. SKILLS AND SOFTWARE USED Handcraft, Photoshop

OBJECTIVE A study of how lines, planes, and volumes could create a sense of space in a 12” x 12”x 12” imaginary cube. MATERIALS USED: Bass wood sticks, poplar wood, museum board

FOLLY

TEMPORARY INSTALLATION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI TEAM PROJECT

OBJECTIVE Create an occupiable folly that fits the dimension of 4’x4’x8’. It has to have the impression that it is occupiable but not in a very straight forward way like most furniture does. Through this we observe how one would interact with an object without knowing what the designer’s intent of usage is. CONCEPT A model of a proposed folly was given to us for further iteration, and as a group we took the most dominant part of the model, which was the two rectangular prism that are extruded at an angle that goes on different directions, and focused on that. We wanted to create a clean, simple and straightforward design by taking that basic shape ang highlighting some areas with white paint to give it a little touch of liveliness and depth.

7 WALLS

50’x50’X100’ SPACE IN DOWNTOWN CINCINNATI

OBJECTIVE Create a space with 7 distinct walls in a given parameter. It not only has to fit well within the space provided but also with its surrounding and its culture. A narrative or a theme that is important to the city, Cincinnati, were to help design. CONCEPT The Ohio River plays an important role in the early growth of Cincinnati. It provided business opportunities such as hotels an restaurant for residents, a mode of transport for farmers selling their processed livestock and crops and also drinking water. Inspired by the river, the circulation of the space is in a river like, curvy motion. (more clearly shown on the diagram) SOFTWARES USED AutoCad, Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator

OTHER ART I enjoy doing portrait works, sketching, and painting. Depending on what I’m trying to achieve, I’d sometimes take my drawings to Illustrator and Photoshop and combine hand drawings with some digital work. Here are some of my favorite pieces that I’ve done over the past years.
