hi there!

2012-2014

THIS PORTFOLIO EXHIBITIS THREE AND A HALF YEARS OF INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENT WORK. MUSIC WAS MY FIRST PASSION. THAT’S WHEN I KNEW I NEEDED TO CHOOSE A FIELD WHERE CREATIVITY FLOURISHES. I LOVE DEFINING WHAT A HOME MEANS. NOT FOR ME BUT FOR THE JOY OF SOMEONE ELSE. DESIGNERS HAVE THE ABILITY TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT THAT TELLS A STORY ABOUT SOMEONE’S LIFE. THAT’S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT INTERIOR DESIGN.

THE COLONY CONCEPT l INSPIRATION THE DESIGN FOR THE COLONY WAS APART OF THE ASID TOUCHDOWN LOUNGE COMPETITION. MEMBERS FOR THIS PROJECT ARE JESSICA STEVENSON, CHRISTA WRIGHT, ISAMAR SIERRA-CRUZ & MYSELF. INSPIRATION BEHIND THE CONCEPT STEMMED FROM THE SYSTEMATIC FUNCTION OF A BEEHIVE. THE LUXERIOUS AIRPORT LOUNGE LOCATED IN SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA OFFERS CUSTOMERS A VARIETY OF SERVICES SUCH AS RETAIL SPACE, EAT-IN AREA, COLLABORATIVE, SOCIAL AND FOCUS AREAS CATERING TO YOUR SPECFIC NEEDS AND PRIVATE CONFERENCE ROOMS ADJACENT TO THE COMPUTER STATIONS. THROUGHOUT THE SPACE, THE DESIGN IS RELFECTED IN A NATURAL COLOR PALETTE, NATURAL WOODS, GEOMETRIC PATTERNS IN FLOOR PLAN AND MATERIALS. THE SYSTEMATIC FUNCTION OF A BEEHIVE COMES INTO THE DESIGN IN 4 CATEGORIES: ROYAL BEE, WORKER BEE, FORAGER BEE & THE POLLINATORS.

SOCIAL / COLL ABORATIVE ARE A The social area acts a central gathering hub for every role. It promotes idea sharing, creativity, and positive interpersonal connections. Which are essential elements to operating an effective workflow within any system. The conference room provides a space for worker bees to privately buzz about their business needs. This space is located near the collabation area in order to provide additional space if needed. The conference room have sliding doors that neatly tuck away so that more space can be provided in case of special events. The social/collaborative area is the heart of the lounge and fosters a face-to-face interactive environment. Members can discuss with those who gather here or sit back and relax next to the custom bee wing inspired art installation, or enjoy the views. While this space does promote communication that can get loud at times, the custom art installation serves as both a focal point as well as a sound barrier between the social and focus areas. The focus area is separated by a glass wall for private relaxation with a view of the planes. This area gives members the option to rest or get work done in private, by offering small movable laptop tables and task lighting. The concept is farther translation into the space by creating an architectural detail of a bee wing that also functions as a sound barrier.

Customer service is designated to the royal bee, for the staff that will be running the Touchdown Lounge. The employees will be in the front of the space to be able to monitor and secure the private lounge. The Royal Bee will be able to answer any questions in regard to flight times, travel information and directions of the airport. They can assist clients with questions or any technical difficulties, maintenance and guiding them around the space.

DIAME TRIC VIEW / CUSTOMER SERVICE

THE COLONY

The workstation is located adjacent to the conference rooms for convenient access to desktops and printers. This is the place for the worker bee to get work done on computers provided and stay connected. In the space, users have the option to use Apple or Windows computers with complimentary WIFI and black and white or color printing. Geometric patterns are incorporated into this space in the wallpaper shown and honey tones are represented in the paint color and carpet. Adjacent to the retail is the eat in space with a private access point for members. The space is meant for gathering and refueling for vacationers while traveling. This area provides seating for 8 with a coffee station and microwave. The concept is translated in the space through hexagonal tiles, earth tones, succulents, and natural lighting pulling the outside environment in. The retail is located adjacent to the eatin and it gives easy access to passengers traveling in the area. The guest will be able to enter the lounge from retail to the eat in with their special membership key cards. The wall behind the customer service desk will have a custom decal of the Golden Bridge to bring in the location to the space. The geometric alucobond copper ceiling will bring in the concept together by representing the interlocking interpersonal of a bee hive. The ceiling will create a reflection of the space.

DRE AM CONDO CONCEPT l INSPIRATION THE DESIGN FOR THE DREAM WAS BASED ON THE IDEA OF BEING YOUR OWN CLIENT. THE DREAM CONDO EMBRACES WHO I AM AS NOT ONLY A PERSON BUT AS AN UP AND COMING DESIGNER. I CONSIDER MYSELF TRADITIONAL IN BOTH MY VALUES AND MY BRAND. I LOOK AT THE WORLD AS IF THE GLASS IS HALF FULL, MY CAREER AS A CONSTANT JOURNEY AND MY WORK AS AN ONGOING ADVENTURE. ALL THREE OF THESE ASPECTS I BELIEVE ARE PARALLEL TO A PERFECT ROMANCE. FOR THIS PROJECT SPECFICALLY, WE ARE TRAVELING TO PARIS, FRANCE. I AM THEORETICALLY WORKING AT A HIGH END RESIDENTIAL FRENCH DESIGN FIRM CALLED CHAHAN INTERIOR DESIGN LOCATED IN THE HISTORICAL LEFT BANK OF PARIS ABOUT TWO BLOCKS AWAY FROM RIVER SEINE. THE PLAN IS DESIGNED TO CREATE AN INTIMATE, SOFT, AND WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT THAT PROMOTES A POSITIVE WORK PLACE AND STRONG RELATIONSHIP TO DESIGN. EVERY DETAIL THAT HAS BEEN INCORPORATED IN THIS CONDO HAS BEEN WELL THOUGHT THROUGH IN ORDER TO CREATE AN INTIMATE PLACE PERFECTED TO THE SMALL DETAILS.

HOME OFFICE / DINING ROOM The concept is further reinforced by using warm, sophisticated, and soothing colored materials in the wall treatments, seating and dĂŠcor. The furniture gets cues from the French province architectural era. The wallpaper was selected with patterns reflecting popular rococo fabric designs. Gold details in the bedroom and gallery wall in the living room reflect elegance and luxury. Traditional molding has been placed on the edges of every space to create a romantic and feminine aesthetic. Left will be my desk and the right is for my intern. The pops of blue on the dining chair correlate with the blue accent wall. Wood elements on the shelves also correlate with the dining table. The door on the very right will lead to the hallway with access to the bathroom. Hallway is closed off from the bedroom to achieve more privacy with guests are over. The fixtures chosen in this design was selected to maximize a warm and welcoming environment as well as keeping the traditional look.

The plan is designed to create an intimate, soft, and welcoming environment that promotes a positive work place and strong relationship to design. Every detail that has been incorporated in this condo has been well thought through in order to create an intimate place perfected to the small details. The bathroom is split into two rooms due to the inability to move plumbing. As explained before, this room is where guest will have access to use the bathroom. The other room shown in yellow is where the shower and bathtub will be found. Only access to this space is through the bedroom.

FLOOR PL AN / MAIN BATHROOM

DRE AM CONDO

This bedroom reflects a little bit more of that feminine and chic look. Patterns blush pink wallpaper, white tufted ottoman and gold finishes on the wall art and bedframe reflect a luxurious feel. Large sliding glass doors in the living room give this space lots of natural light. Warm beige color palate reflects on the couches and the wall paint color. Pops of blue are also prevalent in this space on the throw and pillows. Gallery wall also has photographs of old Paris. A very bright white kitchen, stainless steel appliances, and dark mahogany wood floors. A front entry table is along the very back wall, so you can set you keys and wallet down when you come home.

JOAN MITCHELL ART GAL LERY CONCEPT l INSPIRATION THE DESIGN FOR THE JOAN MITCHELL ART GALLERY IS BASED ON HER OWN LIFE REFLECTED IN EMOTIONS. THESE EMOTIONS WERE MORE DESCRIBED IN HER ABSTRACT WORK BY EVERY COLOR, EVERY MOVEMENT, EVERY EMOTION THAT SHE FELT IN THAT MOMENT WAS TRANSCRIBED IN HER PAINTINGS. THE WAY YOU MOVE THROUGH THE SPACE CHRONOLOGICALLY BOOKMARKED MONUMENTAL MOMENTS IN HER LIFE. EACH PAINTING CHOSEN IN THIS SPACE DESCRIBES THAT MOMUMENTAL MOMENT FROM THE START OF HER CAREER TO HER DEATH. EACH AREA AND EACH PAINTING SYMBOLIZES AN EMOTION; HAPPINESS, LONLINESS, PAIN OR RELIEF. THE EMOTION IS FUTHER TRANSLATED BY ALL SENSES EXCEPT TASTE: SMELL, TOUCH, SOUND, & SIGHT. THIS PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS 3D MODELING AND A STRONG CONNECTION TO CONCEPT. THIS PROJECT WAS APART OF THE DESIGN DEVLELOPMENT CLASS WHERE YOU ARE FIRST INTRODUCTED TO THE MEANING OF CONCEPT AND HOW IT RELATED TO YOUR DESIGNS.

ART GALLERY / ENTRANCE Joan Mitchell was an artist who surrounded her work around abstractionism starting in the 1950’s. Each category of her work, which can be separated by a major event in her life or the place she lived, describes her inspiration behind a painting, sketch or print. Every stroke seen in her pieces of art is significant and represent the shape and how nature to the human eye affects you. Mitchell also focuses on how colors interact with one another. She was extremely interested in how warm and cool colors mix or light and dark colors. Both in terms of the environment she was in and literal lighter and darker colors. Mitchell takes her surroundings, which are typically ones in nature and stares at a blank canvas to plan each and every stroke before starting a project. How each stroke is made reflects also how her arm is angled and positioned, making her art not only mentally challenging but physical as well. In many of her paintings, they are extremely vibrant in color and use simple and straight brush strokes.

ART GALLERY / CENTRAL ARE A The gallery is in the order of loneliness, pain, tension, happines and ending with relief. I’ve designed the gallery not only using Mitchell’s painting but also using physical symbols to reinforce that emotion. Single chair for loneliness. Nails right side up for pain. Benches facing each other for tension. Custom couch with one of Mitchell’s famous bright and vibrant paintings for happiness and a cushioned floor for relief. You are living the life of Joan Mitchell through her work and with the help of this gallery, you are experiencing it.

“To design is much more than simply to assemble, to order, or even to edit: it is to add value and meaning, to illuminate, to simplify, to clarify, to modify, to dignify, to dramatize, to persuade, and perhaps even to amuse. To design is to transform prose into poetry. –Paul Rand
