Ryder Cuts Ribbon, ACT Expo Ready to Rip The Alternative Clean Transportation Expo got off to a bang yesterday as Ryder System leapt into alternative fuels by committing to offering more than 202 natural gas-fueled trucks for leasing and rental. ACT Expo organizer Gladstein, Neandross & Associates is riding the clean transportation wave –and helping exhibitors and conference attendees do so too – as all seek to cash in on a combination of burgeoning domestic fuel availability, a real desire to move Amer-

ica away from foreign oil, California-qualified propane vehicles, better batteries making EVs practical, and, above all, rising gasoline and diesel prices. “It’s turning into a commercial argument,” says Balqon chief Balwinder Samra, as his company has brought a brand new 100% electric terminal tractor to the show (Page 17) – just one of some 70 new clean vehicles here.

Gas & Hybrids Kenworth’s Andy Douglas expects a good show, with a new model hybrid and a new engine option in natural gas to talk about. —Page 6
