Solution:
Safety nets really help.
Challenge 2: Juggling Time
Solution: Schedule time to complete online work each day or whatever works best for your schedule. Also, make sure to schedule time for technical difficulties and “tinker time for new technology.
Solution: K.I.S.S. = Keep It Simple Sweetie Do each part one step at a time so you do not overwhelm yourself by looking at the big picture.
Challenge 3: What Learning Task(s) to Do When
Solution: Start with a pre-assessment ● can be done before class ● can use Survey Monkey, Google Forms, Blog posts, etc. ● doesn’t have to be an assessment could be pre-reading (to get your feet wet) ● if using technology, make sure all students have access to it (even if it’s done in the morning before class starts)
Solution: ● allow for group work time in class ● tasks that involve immediate feedback should be done in class (compare with others work) ● touch base ● go over requirements ● leave time for questions
Challenge 4: Collaborate with Colleagues
Solution: Given the lack of face to face time, there are multiple tools for collaborating outside of the classroom. ● Email-communication, sharing links ● Shared Documents-editing work ● Virtual f2f-Skype, Chatrooms, IM
Solution: Divide up work, and then compiling the final project to avoid stepping on each others toes. Use apps to divide up the work and outline who does what.
Challenge 5 Using Class Time
Solution:
Being able to ask a lot of questions in person.
Solution: Make sure to come in organized with completed pre-work to be able to move forward with new tasks. Do not fall behind and stay on top of assignments.
Solution: Write down questions that you had at home and bring to class.
Solution: Use class time to catch up on questions with peers also, not just instructor. Clarifications can be made with group members at this time.
