“Marcel Breuer and Postwar America: Bridging Modern and Archaic [Reformatting Community at the Institute for Advanced Study]” is a research paper completed by Kristopher G. Menos for the Syracuse University School of Architecture course “Marcel Breuer Interpretation,” which was co-taught by professors Barry Bergdoll and Jonathan Massey during the fall semester of 2010. The course took advantage of the archive of the Marcel Breuer Collection in the University Library’s Special Collections Research Center, to curate an exhibition in the School of Architecture’s Slocum Gallery during the spring of 2011. The exhibition was entitled “Marcel Breuer and Postwar America.” This paper is meant to provide a scholarly narrative for the author’s curatorial selections from the archive’s holdings of documents for Breuer’s 1954-’57 housing project.
