“Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did Newt Gingrich
the site that was assigned to us for project 1 was located at gua tempurung, perak. after 3 hours of cave adventure, we were given time to proceed with our task which was to measure the existing nature of the surrouding.
the color gradient is depicted from the existing color of our site. from this, we are able to study the different moods that can be associated within the colors for our product.
a 50-50 shade of rocks and lush trees can be observed from our perimeter, this is a natural balance which we used to make our design compatible for both elements.
since our perimeter is at the side of the cave facade, we used it as an advantage to study different textures that can be applied to our exterior design. the method that we’ve chosen was tracing the rock texture with charcoal on the surface of paper.
we studied the shadow that formed throughout the day we spent there. since most of our site was covered, only a minimal amount of sunlight is able to penetrate inside our site.
since only a minimal amount of sunlight can penetrate to our site, we studied the light windows that enables light rays to enter. below are the vertical light windows from the sky and the ground,
below is the horizontal light windows of our site. since the front part of the perimeter is covered with a curtain of green trees. not much sunlight is received thus enhancing the privacy of the loaction.
this is the study of the sunpath of the gua tempurung area. it is seen here that the back of our site is blocked with the walls of the cave.
the diagram shows the different intensity of light that is able to penetrate on the surface of our site. thus, automatically creating a natural clock that can be utilised for daily use.
Enric Miralles was born in Barcelona in 1955. He studied in the Technical School of Architecture in his native city and graduated in 1974. He embarked on a promising career in 1973 when he joined the studio of Albert Viaplana and Helio Piñón, where he remained until 1983.throughout this period he created a series of works which brought him to increasing international attention. In 1990 he set up his own studio together with his wife, the architect Benedetta Tagliabue. He combined his professional work with teaching and interior design, an area in which he worked in partnership with Luis Clotet and Óscar Tusquets among others. The Igualada cemetery and the conversion of the old Santa Caterina market are among his most emblematic projects.
we have chosen the igualada cemetAry from the many brilliant creations of enric miralles. this particular architecture plays a big role towards light and shadow which is relevant for the proceedings of our project 1 retreat house.
this study model represents the light entry within our site. the red strings are a vision of the light that enters inside the cave area in different time slots. this model also allowed us to determine the suitable funCtions for the spaces available.
this is study of light when it touches the walls of the visioned retreat house surface with aluminium sheet as the preferred material.
this is a study of the diffferent penetration of light within the multiple layers. the plastic sheets represent the layers of trees that exist in our site.
after all the data that we’ve collected from the conceptual models, we finally came out with a model that is fitting to represent enric miralles retreat home. the facade is half depicted from the igualada cemetery.
this diagram shows the progression of light studies that can be utilised for our final model. we divided the spaces according to the natural clock, where suitable activities are based on the amount of light that is received in the space within the particular time of the day.
our visioned home is fitting for a person TO PERFORM HIS DAILY ACTIVITIES. THE SHAPE OF THE RETREAT HOUSE IS DISPORPOTIONAL AND UNDIFINITE BECAUSE OF THE CAVE WALL AND ASSEMBLY OF TREES IN FRONT.
THE SECOND PROJECT IS LOCATED IN THE SERENE BEACHES OF PULAU PERHENTIAN, THIS PROJECT REQUIRED US TO BUILD A SANCTUARY FOR A CERTAIN CLIENT OF OUR PREFERENCE.
THIS IS A COMIC STRIP REPRESENTATION OF THE JOURNEY THAT I WENT THROUGH ALONG THE COASTAL WALK OF THE BEACH TERRAIN. I TRIED TO PORTRAY MY FEELINGS INCOMPATIBE WITH CLIENT THAT I HAVE CHOSEN WHICH WAS TIGER CHEN.
MAN OF TAI CHI
Set in modern Beijing, MAN OF TAI CHI marks Keanu Reeves' directorial debut. The film, also starring Reeves, follows the spiritual journey of a young martial artist (played by Tiger Chen) whose unparalleled Tai Chi skills land him in a highly lucrative underworld fight club. As the fights intensify, so does his will to survive.
THIS IS THE REPRESENTATION OF THE WHOLE STRETCH OF TERRAIN TO VISUALIZE MY ENDURING JOURNEY IN 3D FORM. THIS STUDY MODEL IS DERIVED FROM MY X-AXIS AND Y-AXIS STUDY OF THE HEIGHT OF CONTOUR.
AT THE BEGINNING OF THE JOURNEY , ONE WILL ENCOUNTER A ROCKY HILL WHICH NEEDS A CERTAIN A CLIMB. THE WATCHING TOWER ALLOWS MY CLIENT TO HAVE AN OVERALL VIEW OF THE TERRAIN THAT HE WILL COME ACROSS TO.
THIS IS A SMALL SPACE SPECIALLY MADE FOR MY CLIENT TO MEDITATE. THE WAVE CRASHES WILL HIT THE OUTER GLASS FACADE, THIS WILL SOMEHOW CREATE AN AMBIENCE THAT ALLOWS MY CLIENT TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE WATER ELEMENT.
THIS WILL BE THE END SPOT THAT IS SERVED AS A RESTING HOME FOR MY CLIENT AFTER THE BRIEF JOURNEY ALONG THE TERRAIN. THIS SPACE IS COMBINED TOGETHER TO FORM A DUAL LIVING AREA WHERE IT ALLOWS MY CLIENT TO SLEEP AND REST FOR THE DAY.
AND THAT IS THE END OF THE ETHEREAL JOURNEY, AND THUS COMPLETING A ONE HELL OF A SEMESTER...
END.
