Dylans’ new single “Inspiration” provides just the right mix to offer the intended feel-good vibes. Not taking himself too seriously he hopes listeners can do the same, and just be themselves “do what you like, it’s about being yourself, being funny when you feel like being funny, being big when you feel like being big… just be true to yourself.”

If you’d like to get to know Dylan, just listen to his music, it’s the best way he says. In his song “Naturally” he sings of love and the importance

of being peaceful towards one and another, “All of the earth is one, love your neighbour and done, stop throwing bombs and put down the guns” a message everyone should learn, considering we are all human. Touching on issues many of us feel are relevant, such as harmony and refinement, Murray believes “It’s time for a change, you see things need rearranging…” and he is not the only one who feels this is true, just ask his fans who love the positive messages within his lyrics.

Focusing heavily on the upcoming summer release of his new album, Dylan is full speed ahead, doing what makes him the happiest- creating feel good tunes to share with us.

his article is written by Localiez photographer Grant Rushton on the one year anniversary of the Japan earthquake on March 11, 2011.

He and his son Nick happened to be in Tokyo during the quake and were unharmed.

walk from where we were staying, and in order to get there we had to pass through a forest known as the Meiji Shrine which has several temples on its grounds. It was incredible to be in such a quiet sanctuary set within a bustling metropolis.

Our first experience of Japan came at Narita Airport in Tokyo. Two small policemen came up to us smiling. Their heads were probably at my chest level. They asked to see our passports and questioned us in a friendly manner, as if practicing their English on us. Frankly, I wanted to hug them.

Walking around Tokyo you will see tall modern buildings and then come across small traditional structures. In long back alleyways you will find little open air eateries called ramen bars, which serve noodles in a fish broth. By little, I mean each ramen bar seats only a few people. The entire width of each restaurant is covered by an old metal rolling door at the end of the evening.

After picking up rental cell phones at the airport, we boarded a bus to our hotel in the heart of the city. To give you an idea of how big Tokyo is, it took us ninety minutes by direct bus in good traffic to get to our hotel located in the Shinjuku district. Another thing I noticed during our ride was the complex architecture of the city: whole sections of city built simultaneously above and below.

On our first day of walking we visited the Shibuya district, known for high end shopping, modern buildings and electronics, although that can be said about many of Tokyo’s districts. The Shibuya district is about a 45 minute

Some of the larger Japanese restaurants have a system of displaying plastic food in their windows, by way of a menu. This is useful to someone unable to speak the language because you can take the waiter to the window and point to the food you want to order.

Another system some restaurants use for ordering is a ticket machine. Put money in the machine, push the button for the food you want to order, and hand the ticket to the waiter. I saw this system used at a barbershop as well.

About ninety minutes by rail from Osaka is the old city of Kyoto. We commuted there twice, using a combination of city and regional trains.

Of the three majors cities we visited, Kyoto had the easiest to understand layout of streets. It also had the most distinct mixture of old world and cosmopolitan. A favourite for both Nick and I was watching a Kabuke play in an old wooden theatre. The play lasted three hours and was in Japanese without sub-titles. Although I didn’t have a clue about the story line, I found the costumes, the sets and the acting completely engrossing.

Useful tip: Well before you set foot in Japan it is wise to order a Japan Rail Pass. You can order a 7, 14, or 21 day pass, which is good for traveling throughout Japan as well most rail systems within the cities.

Using our Japan Rail Pass we boarded a bullet train (Shinkansen) for Osaka. A bullet train has a top speed of 250 km per hour, so we arrived at our destination in about two hours, passing the magnificent Mount Fuji on the way.

Tokyo and Osaka do have a different character from each other. Tokyo is modern, fashionable, fast paced, and clean. Osaka is a little less modern,

There is also a large cluster of temples on the east side of the city. Strolling through this section we found four young women dressed in kimonos. They happily let us take their picture and then they asked to take ours.

I recently asked my travel agent about the safety of visiting Japan now. Although a future earthquake cannot be predicted - and Japan is an earthquake prone country - I am told radiation levels there are safe now.

The subway system is intimidating. Looking at the map of the system is almost like looking at a circuit board. Fortunately, staff were easy to find and helpful. With a little sign language and holding up maps were we able to find our way to our destinations.

nyone who is familiar with the New York City hip-hop scene of the 90s has heard the unique beats and calculated lyrics of Digable Planets. First known for their massive single The Rebirth of Slick (Cool like Dat) released in 1993 from the album Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space), the hip-hop trio went on to win a Grammy for best hip-hop group the following year. Digable Planets was comprised of artists Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler, Mary-Ann “Ladybug Mecca” Viera, and of course Craig “Doodlebug” Irving.

It’s been years since Digable Planets dissolved due to inter-group disagreements, and, as a phoenix rises from the ashes of the past, the artist

once known as Doodlebug has been reincarnated as the irrepressible CeeKnowledge.

Cee-Knowledge has been involved in performing, recruiting and producing his own brand of unparalleled hip-hop, funk and abstract music with his group Cee knowledge and the Cosmic Funk Orchestra, later simplified to the CFO AllStars. Check out their two studio releases under the Farmhouse Records label and get ready to be funked right up. This is one bug that no one can squash.

or Robb Clarke, drawing has always been a fundamental part of life. “I started as a kid, when I was about 6-years old. It’s been a passion of mine ever since.” Clarke’s art reaches the younger demographic through his current work with an agency called 3-in-a-Box, which helps publish his latest creations in a catalogue.

Clarke’s stories are real and gritty; he focuses on the lives and values of young adult characters, often giving attention to the social issues affecting the urban community. “My work is for people aged 9 to late 20’s, I’ve always loved to illustrate stories, it’s only in the past few years that I’ve got serious,” he explains.

oronto resident Sean Lamba is the founder of an inspirational organization dedicated to reaching out and educating children in developing countries. Lamba describes Everyday Child as a charity that provides youth from impoverished communities with otherwise inaccessible opportunities. Lamba began this non-profit because he firmly believes that people everywhere are the same, regardless of their economical and political circumstances.

The staff at Everyday Child is a volunteer group, of people who support Lamba’s vision for a world where people share equal opportunities and

meaningful connections. He says that “a lot of people in this world want to give back and it’s not always with money,” encouraging people to donate their time and expertise as well.

The motto ‘Learn, Earn, Return’ is the foundation of Everyday Child’s global initiative. Through this, Everyday Child aims to create and nurture a global cycle of education. Last year, India gave Everyday Child charitable status and the organization now intends to build its first learning centre in Mumbai.

Most shirts show him with his prison number looking like a criminal. We wanted to show him as a businessman that achieved success before anyone else in his industry. Take us back to your roots and then show us your future. How did you start and where do you hope to go?

Befresh was originally founded and pursued as a promotional company to bring individuals together with common nightlife interests. As Befresh

continued to progress we created promotional shirts and due to the demand Befresh apparel was born.

What separates BeFresh Apparel from other brands?

BeFresh is completely different from other brands. We are not a brand that tries to create sales through famous people and Photoshop models. We are trying to create a brand that can be positive towards life, inspire others, and therefore attract good humble people that truly like our designs. It is not about looking better than everyone else but rather being the best you can be.

What does “BeFresh” truly mean?

Befresh is a metaphor. Befresh is to - be - look- stay - fresh. However more importantly it means to present yourself in the way you feel is best for you.

Book Clubs: Open by Andre Agassi

K ladies, I can hear you now! What??? A sports book? No chance!

Your book club may be all about purses and wine but I can assure you, Open by Andre Agassi will not disappoint. Dare to challenge yourself to read something a little different. Open is a riveting memoir -- as engaging as Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls in my opinion.

With the summer weather teasing us this spring, you’ll be ready to grab your book and head to the beach. Kelso may not be quite ready for us yet, but it is bound to be soon.

Agassi’s story starts with “The End”. The opening scene details what could potentially be his last professional tennis match prior to retirement.

Agassi takes you on a roller coaster of emotions that he felt prior to the match and follows it up with a nail-biting play by play of the match that finalizes his career. Even if you’re no sports fan, your eyes will be shooting back and forth across the page much like Agassi’s returns. With a beginning like that, who could put this one down?

The memoir goes on to reveal how Agassi’s demanding father left him few choices in childhood. Forced to grow up on the court and in the public eye, Agassi often struggled personally. Professionally Agassi had achieved top honours by his early twenties - yet still he felt unfulfilled. This drives him to search for more in life and more from his relationships. Throughout the story we see Agassi’s revolving door of father figures until he finds stability and happiness with Gil and his wife, Stefi.

The overall magic of this aptly named book is its honesty. In true Agassi form, he lays it all out and holds nothing back. You’ll appreciate his introspective look at a fantastic career and relate to the personal challenges in his journey. If you weren’t already a fan of Agassi, you’re sure to be a convert!

This issue’s beach bum pick is Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult. It is one of those rare books that could truly fit into either the beach bum or book club categories. Readers of all interests should enjoy this interesting tale of a family in tragedy.

A terrible car accident draws Edward, the prodigal son, home from halfway around the world to be reunited with his family. However the reunion is far from a fairy tale. Unfortunately, his father Luke and sister Cara have been injured in a serious accident and both are hospitalized. Luke is on life support forcing the siblings to face near impossible choices. With differing perspectives on their father’s wishes, the debate soon becomes heated and violent clashes of opinions ensue. The situation heats to boiling point and beyond as you discover just how far each child is willing to go for their father.

Luke is a naturalist and works with - you guessed it - wolves. Throughout the story parallels are drawn between modern family life and that of a pack of wolves. If it sounds a little far fetched for you, it may be. I found Luke’s character a little unrealistic and difficult to relate to. That said, once I was halfway through the book, I did become hooked and looked forward to reading onward. The book is sure to please Jodi’s usual fans and can still appeal to book clubs by covering easily debated subjects.

ow do I lose weight? How do I get toned? What’s better, the treadmill or the elliptical? How do I use this machine? What body part does this exercise target?

We get the same questions over and over – people sign up for the gym, have the best intentions of starting on their path to a healthier lifestyle, but they don’t know where to start, or lack the basic fundamentals of why, when and how…

The most common question we get is “what is the best machine for cardio?” Ironically the answer is simple – the one you enjoy using the most.

The fact is, if you don’t like a machine, you probably won’t use it often, but if there’s a machine that you enjoy, chances are you can stick to a routine and be consistent in your workouts – and as a result you will gradually see the results you are looking for! There really is no “best” machine. It comes down to how the machine is used. One can get just as much cardiovascular benefit from running hard on a treadmill that is set on an incline, as a challenging interval program on the bike, elliptical trainer or stair climber. It is a good idea to add variety to your workouts with different equipment, activities, and programs – it keeps your workouts fresh and exciting and will prevent you from burning out or getting bored of your routine.

What about strength training – are machines or free weights better? There is no clear cut winner in this debate either – as with the cardio machines – variety is the best way to get an effective workout! If you are new to the gym – stick with machines. They will allow you to build your confidence and offer support with movements your body might not be used to. As you become more comfortable with what exercises work which muscles, start incorporating free weight exercises. Free weights give you the most out of each workout in the fastest amount of time. With free weights you engage more muscle groups at the same time, creating a more complete and efficient workout.

Another great way to get active is by joining group fitness classes. They provide you with a great workout, and add the social element to your fitness regime. As you make friends, it becomes a fun way to socialize, to hold each other accountable to each person’s fitness goals, and it’s a great and fun way to get into shape!! Don’t be intimidated, introduce yourself at the first class and let yourself become part of the action – I promise you’ll end up loving the experience!

what’s for dinner?

Ahhhh....the seasons have changed once again.

As spring has now sprung upon us and now is the time to make some healthy changes in order to feed our bodies better, because we know that SUMMER is just an April shower away!

3 tablespoons of minced or finely chopped garlic

Try this sweet yet spicy way to enjoy one of the most delicious types of fish around...salmon.

It will open up your appetite for seafood as we move into the heat of summer.

a) 1 1/2 tablespoons of Italian Seasoning

Sweet ‘n’ Spicy Almond Crusted Salmon 1 Large fillet of salmon cut into 6 or so pieces or individual frozen fillets (thawed)

Garlic Powder - season to taste

2 tablespoons of Date Syrup (optional) 3 tablespoons of Fancy Molasses 1/3 cup of water b) 1 teaspoon of dried red chilies c) 1 tablespoon Montreal Steak spice d) 1 tablespoon oatmeal - uncooked Wash salmon fillets in a bowl or sink with some water and lemon juice. If you don’t have lemon juice, use water and vinegar. Rinse, drain then pat dry with a paper towel. Generously sprinkle garlic power, and black pepper (to your taste).

Black Pepper - season to taste

Set fish aside to prepare the crust mixture. At the same time preheat oven to 425°.

Almond Crust

In a small blender or food processor blend the ingredients a) through d) into a fine powder.

1 1/2 whole almonds blended to make 2 cups of fine and coarsely chopped almonds 2 tablespoons of brown sugar

Add chopped almonds, steak spice blend and the rest of the almond crust ingredients to a small pot, with the 1/3 cup of water and bring

to a boil, then turn down so that the mixture can simmer until the water evaporates and it becomes thick.

Take off the stove and allow a few minutes for it to cool and become thicker still.

Once you are unable to pour the mixture use a spoon to generously spread the almond crust mixture on each fillet (1 1/2 tablespoons per fillet seems good). Place salmon in the oven and bake until salmon fakes with a fork.

At that time you can determine if your crust has browned enough for you. If not, use the broil function on your oven and with a close eye, you can make your crust the desired crispness. *Please remember that the longer the fish stays in the oven, the drier it becomes.

Serve with your favourite side dish; mashed potatoes are my favourite with steamed veggies....
