ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO Selected Undergraduate Work 2016 - 2020

Astrup Fearnlet Museet – Oslo, Norway

Manipal School of Planning and Architecture Architecture for me is about creating a positive visual as well as emotional experience for the users. I believe in creating spaces where one could easily reciprocate with the built and the unbuilt forms. The concept of intangible elements in architecture also interests me. I strongly believe that these elements when added to a design brings life to the space.

A Convertible Cafe_Theatre 20 - 30 Users Umea_Sweden

The project aims at converting an already existing theatre for old ladies(Tant Teaten) and a closed showroom of wooden sauna into a convertible space, where the space could turn into a book cafe during the working hours and a theatre in the evenings. This is achieved using exclusively designed convertible furnitures which could change its purpose according to the need.

The slab at the back stores all the heavy equipments and other required materials

View of the Convertible Counter

The slab in front is lighter and easy to loft up. The lifting takes place through a handle provided at the bottom.

This convertible counter has two separate slabs one for making coffee/tea and the one in front is for storing the dry snacks available for fika. The slab placed at the back is the fixed slab storing the heavy equipment and the slab in the front is lighter and is movable vertically in a circular form. This movement allows more space during the night time. The counter is movable only in a circular motion covering a fourth of the radius of the circle.

Details of the Convertible Table The convertible table is one of the main elements added to the space. During the cafĂŠ hours it is used as a table and it moves in a circular path wherein the table could be adjusted according to the accessibility conditions as and when required. When the space becomes a theatre the table moves vertically and unfolds to a bench which becomes a seating space for the theatre.

Details of the Rotating Bookshelves These rotating bookshelves are provided not only to store books but they carry partial load of the building and also its acts like a Trombe wall to allow passive heating inside the structure. During the day time while the cafĂŠ is functional rotation of these shelves add an element of rhythm to the store where as they act like barrier to light and visibility from the road at night when they are closed.
