Dr. D. Darrell Griffin, D.Min. is a Senior Pastor, Spiritual Director, Certified Ministry Coach, and Certified Enneagram Trainer. He travels nationwide, teaching congregations and Non-Profits the Building a Better TEAM! System (Using the Enneagram).
Since January 2000, Dr. Griffin has served as the Senior Pastor of the Oakdale Covenant Church of Chicago, Illinois. His commitment to a holistic ministry has manifested itself through the tremendous growth of Oakdale to well over 2500 disciples, the expansion of Oakdale Christian Academy and Child Care Center, and the establishment of the Oakdale Community Development Corporation to impact the needs of the Brainerd/Washington Heights community. Oakdale Christian Academy specializes in educating underserved and frequently at-risk students. This unique environment utilizes the human resources of the congregation to ensure that the students and their families are equipped to succeed mentally, physically, and spiritually.
Dr. Griffin graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, Harvard Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Griffin’s outstanding ministerial experience extends back to his years of service as the Assistant Pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church of Harlem, New York, pastored by Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III.
In November 2014, Dr. Griffin was appointed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and served for serval terms as one of the seven Trustees of City Colleges of Chicago. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of North Park University, where he served as Chair of the Seminary Committee. Dr. Griffin was the former Chair of the Executive Board, the decision-making body of the Evangelical Covenant Church of America. Dr. Griffin was appointed Illinois Chair of Choose Healthy Life, partnered with Chicago Black Clergy and the United Way of Metro Chicago to promote COVID-19 Education and increase vaccinations in the local Black Community. Dr. Griffin served as a Fellow in the inaugural class of the Marty Center’s Black Church Leadership Program at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Griffin is the author of Navigating Pastoral Leadership in the Transition Zone: “Arriving in the Middle of the Movie” (Chicago: MMGI Books, 2012). It has become a resource to assist congregations and pastors through the challenging maze of a transition in pastoral leadership. Dr. Griffin is also the author of Building a Better YOU: Using the Enneagram to find Purpose, Healing, and Success in Relationships (Louisville: Valiant Publishing, 2021). It is one of the best tools for understanding one’s purpose, maintaining personal growth, and ensuring effective team building in any professional or relational setting.
He is currently serving as an Adjunct Professor at North Park University, North Park Theological Seminary, and serving on the Teaching team for Sustaining Pastoral Excellence (SPE) of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
