MESSAGE FROM THE HENRY FAMILY

The DJ Henry Dream Fund (DJHDF) was founded in 2011, in honor and memory of our son DJ Henry, whose life was tragically cut short on October 17, 2010. Since losing our beloved DJ, our family created a scholarship fund to financially support Massachusetts youth and their families who do not have the financial resources to participate in community-based programs. Each time we help a child participate in an athletic, performing arts, dance, or camp program, we remember DJ’s love of sports and care for his community. In addition, DJ's siblings, Kyle and Amber, have also been champions in helping to keep DJ's legacy alive by speaking publicly of DJ’s legacy and raising funds.

Since 2011, the DJ Henry Dream Fund has provided scholarships to 8,000 youth, ages 5-18, ranging in individual amounts from $50-$1,200. Collectively, we have provided over $800,000 in scholarships over the last ten years. Our goal is to reach $1 million by 2023!

The ability to pay for activities can be affected by a number of factors, including, job loss. illness, divorce, and chronic underemployment. Where poverty is the driver of need, children are robbed of the simple joys of play. Childhood poverty is known to be associated with poor health, which includes a greater likelihood of food insecurity, chronic illness, poor academic achievement, and a decreased life expectancy. Specifically, Black and Brown families experience higher rates of poverty due to racial, residential, economic, and social segregation.

The DJ Henry Dream Fund Foundation supports Positive Youth Development (PYD), an intentional, prosocial approach that engages youth within their communities, schools, organizations, peer groups and families in a manner that is productive and constructive by recognizing and enhancing youth strengths by promoting positive outcomes for young people by providing opportunities and fostering positive relationships to build upon strengths of youth living in poverty

www.djdreamfund.org 2

Over 70% of the DJ Henry Dream Fund recipients receiving scholarships are residing in disadvantaged communities. The DJHDF recognizes the impacts of poverty, institutional racism, and the inequities relating to family financial resources which act as hard barriers to participation in programs. Our mission is to equalize access.

In addition, 80% of recipients receive free or reduced lunch and 20% are raised by grandparents as caregivers. We provide scholarships to youth living throughout Massachusetts, with higher demand from vulnerable communities such as Brockton, East Bridgewater, Dorchester, Lowell, Lawrence, and Springfield.

DJ always considered the needs of all his teammates, and like DJ, who often gave away his equipment to peers in need, we aim to replicate the same extensions of kindness by providing scholarships to youth with a demonstrated need.

The DJ Henry Dream Fund believes access and opportunity to participa family's financial situation.

We welcome you to partner with u that need it most.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely, Dan and Angella Henry Co-Founders, DJ Henry Dream Fun

From The Family

MARKING

1 2 Y E A R S

On October 17, 2010, DJ’s life was tragically cut short in New York. In an effort to create something positive through this unthinkable tragedy, the Henry family started the DJ Henry Dream Fund. DJHDF set out to honor DJ’s legacy by helping kids in Massachusetts achieve their dreams.

12 is a significant number for us! 2022 marked our 12th year helping families, DJ's jersey number from high school and into his football career at Pace University was always number 12 and his jersey was retired in this 12th year. We consider these coincidences to be reminders of why we do what we do.

All for our beloved #12

Oliver Ames School Tree Planting dedicated to DJ Henry

Pace University, where DJ played football hosted the third annual Social Justice Week across its three campuses – in lower Manhattan, Pleasantville, and White Plains. The featured events adhere to values of equity and justice while engaging the campus community in learning activities and dialogue centered on the issues of social justice

This year, the football program also retired DJ's #12 jersey in a special ceremony. We are grateful for the work that the school is dedicated to doing and for this generous retirement of his jersey.

Oliver Ames High School alums, Claudia Ferrara, Brandon Cox, and Emma Joyce, along with Raising Multicultural Kids continue to honor the legacy of alum, DJ Henry for the third annual DJ Henry Day on October 27, 2022.

"As a friend of the Henry Family, I was close to DJ’s story and the impact DJ had on everyone around him As a friend, community member, and Oliver Ames (OA) alumni, I felt a need for that impact and legacy to be acknowledged and celebrated at OA. The idea for DJ Henry Day came out of a collaboration between the Henry family, other community members, a local non-profit (Raising Multicultural Kids), and OA

The intention for DJ Henry day is (and will continue to be) to uplift DJ and his legacy while encouraging students to have purposeful and productive conversations around social justice and the mark that they will make on the world "

Covid 19 put a 2-year damper on the programs we support. Covid 19 also left many children feeling depressed, anxious, and lonely. As a result, we created the Healthy at Home Initiative and provided $10,000 in fitness equipment and art supplies to be sent to children that helped them to stay engaged and active while at home.

Items like jump ropes, hockey sticks, basketballs, soccer balls, and art kits were provided to welldeserving children.

When the Covid 19 restrictions were lifted, the DJ Henry Dream Fund saw a 50% increase in requests for assistance. We wanted to do our best to respond to as many requests as possible and provided over $105,000 in program funding in 2022. That’s $5,000 over budget! We need your help to continue standing in the gap where the children need the most. We promise to live up to DJ's expectations and honor his legacy.

MAKING DREAMS HAPPEN WITH A SIMPLE

A Success Story on the Brink of a Breakout DJ Henry Dream Fund Scholar, Quincy Pickett

We first met Quincy in 2014 when he was just 10 years old with a dream to continue to play football. We invited him to speak at our gala fundraiser and we were honored to have him return as our keynote speaker in 2022. Quincy is now a senior with high honors at St. Sebastian school in Needham and hoping to be recruited for a college scholarship! We know it will happen! Way to go Quincy!

A few of his most recent 2022 ISL LINEMAN OF TH 2022 ISL ALL-LEAGUE - 1S 2022 NEPSAC ALL LEAGU 2022 NEPSAC ALL NEW E 2022 BOSTON HERALD A

As Quincy heads to the next chapter in his football career, we wish him all the best and are proud to have him as part of the forever DJ Henry Dream Fund Family.

“Honestly, the DJ Henry Dream Fund changed my life, because that is when I really fell in love with football,” he says. “Football basically changed the direction in how I lived my life, my focus, and what I needed to do to play football at a high level in the future. So that meant going to a great school, focusing on my grades, and doing things for the community ” Quincy Pickett from Boston Man Magazine, November, 2022

YES!

2014It is my pleasure to write about how grateful I am for my son Quincy Pickett to be a recipient of a DJ Henry Dream Fund scholarship. Quincy is a 10year-old Brockton Elementary School student and has been in Brockton sports whether it was football for the BROCKTON JUNIOR BOXERS or Basketball for the YMCA youth league or the Brockton BOYS AND GIRL CLUB since he was five years old. Due to a recent work injury, I didn't have the financial means to continue to keep Quincy in his favorite sport, football. Dealing with not being able to do the things that he and his younger sister were used to doing when I was working, Quincy fell into a deep depression. He gained much weight for his age and I knew that I had to do something so that he can join football this season like the previous seasons. I, like the rest of the world, learned of the very unfortunate passing of DJ Henry and like the rest of the world looked at my young son who was growing up to be a man and feared what he was going to be facing in life overall. It was heartwrenching. Last year at the BROCKTON JUNIOR BOXERS football banquet we were blessed with the presence of the Henrys. They spoke about the DJ HENRY DREAM FUND and ways that they help kids SAY YES as well as ways that we can help. It was a privilege to be in their presence and see what they have turn from a tragedy to a story of peace, love, God, and most of all strengthening of our youth through sports. I turned to the DJ Henry Dream Fund to help me save my son and to give him the strength and courage to SAY YES! I will be forever grateful for what you did for not only me but my son.

I am providing two pictures of my son from June 2014 to the end of August 2014. When he learned that he received the DJ HENRY DREAM FUND scholarship to play football, it sparked my hard-working, committed, athletic son to be what I knew he could always be

an awesome student-athlete! Thank you for believing in our youth and I thank you for believing in my son!

Forever grateful, Tonya Pickett

MIAA RON BURTON COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

In March this year, the DJ Henry Dream Fund was honored to receive the Ron Burton Community Service Award from the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) for our dedicated work to support youth in Massachusetts.

MIAA/Ron Burton Community Service Award

Ron Burton, community philanthropist, and the first New England Patriot drafted, passed away in 2003, but his legacy lives on in New England and beyond. He used his football legacy to help deliver his message of hope, determination, and optimism, emphasizing that love, strong family values, and hard work can overcome any obstacle.

Mr. Burton hailed from Springfield, Ohio. At the time he graduated from high school, he was considered the finest football player in the state and had offers from 47 colleges. He chose Northwestern University and went on to be one of the greatest players in school history. He joined the Boston Patriots in 1960 and played with the team until his retirement in 1966.

Throughout his years with the Patriots, and the subsequent years he spent in broadcasting

and insurance, community service was a constant thread running through Mr. Burton’s life. He served on many civic boards and charities and was widely recognized for his service and philanthropy. He established the Ron Burton Training center in Hubbardston, Massachusetts, which serves underprivileged youth from inner-city neighborhoods.

In 2003, The MIAA instituted a Community Service Award in Ron Burton’s name and the first recipient was his son, Steve Burton.

FROM OUR FAMILIES

With your help, my son got into the football program he wanted which means a lot to my family and me. This has been a great experience for him and he has learned a lot over the last few weeks. His overall behavior had changed a great deal because of having him in this program and thanks to you.

My daughter has been doing sideline cheer for the past two years b ut it’s been very difficult for me to afford it so I am grateful and blessed to have been given an opportunity for her to join the team due to the DJ Henry Dream Fund. Thank you again to this amazing foundation for helping us.

Thank you so much to the DJ Henry Dream Fund. If it was not for the generous gift this summer, my child would not have been able to attend camp. He spent the summer outside, making friends and memories all because the DJ Henry Dream Fund helped us out when we needed it the most. It has been a stressful few years financially for some families and it is organizations like this that make it possible for ki ds like mine to have the best summer ever!

To everyone at DJ Henry Dream Fund, we would like to send a huge warm thank you, my son had a wonderful week at camp and it was made possible by your program, I’m a single mom and w ithout DJ Henry Dream Fund, it wouldn’t have been possible.
