Le Cinq Le Cinq is an exquisite restaurant that boasts a three-Michelin-star rating. The menu harnesses classic French techniques while also embracing new cooking styles. The ingredients are always fresh and locally sourced. For a truly gourmet lunch, try the blue lobster salad with grapefruit in a white butter sauce.

Whether you are a long-time resident, or a confused local, it always helps to know the best places to get a bite to eat. Well good news! Our team has done their research and has found three great restaurants that you need to try! Fresh ingredients and great atmosphere are sure to please even the pickiest of restaurant goers!

Epicure

When in Paris, dine in a restaurant that is absolutely French! Eric Frechon, the very talented head chef holds the prestigious ‘Meilleur Ouvrier de France’ and three Michelin stars. We recommend the macaroni stuffed with black truffle, artichoke and duck foie gras, gratinéed with aged parmesan.

If you’re looking for a more laid back atmosphere, check out Le Jourdain. This minimalist space crafts delectable meals for a reasonable price. Try out the mackerel rillettes and roast hake with chervil and lemon curd or come to the popular tapas night and enjoy very fresh melon ceviche; clams with fennel in a broth; delicious octopus and orecchiette or crab and ricotta ravioli.

Français “Il” Fille French “It” Girl: Léa Seydoux

By Kelly Hippenmyer

From being the latest Bond girl to becoming the freshest face of Louis Vuitton, Léa Seydoux has leapt into the spotlight as a major fashion muse this year. In an interview with weekly online magazine Edit, Seydoux describes her style saying, “I don’t try to be modern, I prefer to be feminine.” Her classic style radiates from within her, and Seydoux is reinforcing the idea that you do not need to be extreme to be considered fashionable, as long as you are true to yourself. Seydoux believes that woman should be seen as equals to men, and she brings that into her performance as Madeleine Swann in the new Bond movie Spectre as well as the feminine way she dresses. Seydoux seeks to empower the roles she is cast in, never settling to be just another pretty face. Léa Seydoux is the ultimate “It” girl to watch this season.

SÉBASTIEN MEYER + ARNAUD VAILLANT Meet Arnaud Vaillant and Sebastien Meyer, the French duo behind the young fashion brand Coperni Femme. Vaillant and Meyer met while attending Mod’Art International School in Paris, and quickly became partners in both work and in life. Studying opposite sides of the industry, Vaillant studying fashion management and Meyer studying design, the duo has been working their way through the industry, searching for a niche. In 2013, they found it. Coperni Femme, a pragmatic feminine line that was created for the sole purpose to make clothing women would wear. Coperni Femme still rules underground at the moment, but they have received praise from some of the leaders in the industry. Vaillant and Meyer were the recipients of ANDAM’s First Collections prize, and were also named finalists in the 2015 LVMH Prize Competition. However, Coperni Femme is no longer this team’s only responsibility. In 2015, iconic French fashion house, Courréges named Vaillant and Meyer to be the newest creative director for a 2016 revival. Courréges boasts a strong legacy, though quietly coasting in the most recent years. Their first two collections for the house, S/S 2016 and F/W 2016, have peaked interest, their S/S collection even sending shockwaves through the fashion community Elite. They have taken the iconic shapes of a Courréges garment and stripped it down bare, showing only the essentials as well as interesting technological innovations. Vaillant and Meyer are members of the new French legion of designers setting out to create new aesthetic and new purpose for fashion. This is a team the fashion elite should certainly pay attention to.

WALKING ALONGSIDE MARGAUX is like walking within the eye of a hurricane. Paparazzi shout her name left and right, greed twinkling in their eyes as they see the young tastemaker. “This is all day, everyday. They never do anything too outrageous!” She is quick to tell me as we step into her restaurant of choice, La Maison des Frigos. The resident diners greet her enthusiastically, proving Margaux carries her trademark charm on and off the stage. Settled into her favorite corner of the restaurant, I finally get a good look at Margaux. Piercing blue eyes stare directly into my own, an unwavering desire to connect and understand obvious. This need was what propelled Margaux into the spotlight to begin with. However, this artist doesn’t want to be known for her personal life and exploits. “I want my art to speak for me,” the eccentric girl mused as she sipped away at a steaming chamomille tea. “My music, my style, they are an extension of my spirit. I never want that to be manipulated or misunderstood.” If anyone understand’s Margaux’s spirit, it is her fans. While she only has one album out, it has been named certified platinum and has rested atop the Billboard charts in recent weeks. Margaux’s passion is obvious when speaking of her latest project. “Streak is about embracing your quirks, almost enhancing your flaws, forcing the world to accept. It’s supposed to be my anthem, and luckilt mt fans understand that anthem and live by that anthem... I am very lucky.”

Very lucky indeed. Margaux’s story is not unlike the other pop stars we have seen over time, but what is different about her is her aversion to marketing, even demanding to style out of her wardrobe to avoid incognito fashion advertising. It was a struggle to even get her in this interview. “I feel like the more I personally market and sell myself, I will start to lose myself. I promised my mom back when this all started that I would never look who I was. You can ask her how i’m doing!” Margaux isn’t really sure what is happening next for her. Another album? Her face tells me she is unsure. Tour? A definite no. Her reputation for not showing up to performences makes investors wary. “I would love to go on a series of surprise performances. Just get me and my close musician friends together, show up at a bar and just jam. Surprise the fans, show them some positivity in this dark world. I want to be able to travel and understand and adapt.” Does Margaux represent a new breed of pop star? Do we see the end of dramatic antics and cat fights for publicity? If it were her way, competition would exist. “Life should be about collaboration. We, as humans, should be able to help each other without judgement and without bias. For musicians, as artists, our greatest efforts should be put into the promotion of art, no matter our differences or misunderstandings.” If anything, Margaux shows us that individuality is the true key to success. To experience a dose of her individuality, go and check out Magaux’s debut album, Streak. I can promise it truly is an extension of her spirit.

Les Dernières Tendances Trend Spotters

In the final leg of Fashion Month, we Paris launched the newest generations French houses. We kept a close eye on where the fashion trends for F/W 2016

The Puffer:

Paris reintroduced the puffer into every fashionable person’s palette. Both iconic houses, like Balenciaga and Vivienne Westwood, and up-and-comers, such as Vetements, brought the puffer back with bright new colors, enticing silhouettes, and a new sense of sreet style edge.

marveled as for iconic Paris to see will begin.

Masculine Blazers: Women’s Blazers had a touch of masculine this Paris Fashion Week. Jacquemus, Balenciaga, and Nina Ricci displayed strong shouldered silhouettes and strong nods to masculine suiting styles.

Bold Animal Print: The 80’s are obviously back, and with that animal print comes roaring back into the forefront of fashion patterns. Dries Von Noten, Acne Studios, and Ungaro featured bold animal prints amongst their collections, reviving the once tacky concept.

Dehydrated Florals: Paris took the usual floral trend and purposefully dried it out to create a ftaigued floral effect. Designers like Undercover, John Galliano, and Alexis Mabille took the print to heart, centering their collections around a more somber floral.

Milan Fashion Week 2016

By Whitney Dore

Big Shoulders:

We sensed a little bit of 80’s nostalgia this week as we watched countless designes walk the runway featuring exagerated shoulder padding. Designers such as Dsquared2 and Dolce&Gabbana were able to successfully revitalize this style in a way that didn’t fill our heads with visions of legwarmers and neon.

Ruffles: With the surge of femininity that was visible in Milan, it isnt surprising that we saw a massive ammount of ruffles. Even on more edgy garments, these ruffles add just the right touch of elegance and grace.

This past week we watched milan parade the newest looks down the runway. Our team was watching and has compiled the top 4 trends to watch for the fall/winter season.

Florals:

Whoever said you can’t have florals in winter was proven very wrong by this seasons designers. An abundance of garments were abloom with floral patterns. Some, in more femine ways, and others to add a bit of elegance to an edgy design.

Geometric Patterns:

Get out your math books, geometric shapes seem to be in for fall. Milan saw a great deal of different shapes and linear designes being incorperated into the patterns. This, along with the unique pairning of these prints makes these pieces pop.

Europe kicked off fashion season in London, which provided us with some pretty tantalizing trends. Our trend hunters devoured the shows, finding F/W 2016 inspirations.

Applique: London designers were showing some love to classic appliques to help tell the story of clothing. Alexander McQueen, Temperley London, and Mary Katrantzou relied heavily on the practice to tell their vibrant stories.

Capes: Capes continue to dominate the dressier side of the fashion scene. Approved, once again, by Alexander McQueen, Mulberry, and Roksanda, the cape is continuing on with new inventive silhouettes.opments.

London Fashion Week 2016 By William Fancher

Sequins: LFW reminded us how much we love a good sequin. Many brands took different spins on the sequin trend, including Erdem, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, and Burberry. Expect to see some sparkle this fall, bringing new energy to the seasons.

Velvet:

London was searching for luxury this season and landed in velvey. Entranced by the deliciously soft texture, brands like Erdem, Roksanda, and Topshop Unique velvet was used not only as a detail, but as the full focus of a garment.

“I like to keep it simple, both in what I wear and what I carry around with me. I always bring just the essentials” -Audrey Tautou

Audrey’s favorite staple piece is her quilted Chanel shoulder bag. She keeps it simple with her plain wallet and classic aviators. She carries her red lipstick, pins for her hair and Chanel No.5, because you never know when primping may be necessary. And of course, who can go anywhere without their phone!?

Festival de Cannes 10 Most Controversial Cannes Winners

With the festival de cannes 2016 being held in the next few months (May 11-22), it seemed fitting to take a look at the most scandalous winners from past years. Here are 10 of the most controversial films to have ever won at cannes:

By Kelly Hippenmyer

1

La Dolce Vita

when the Catholic Church denounced the movie for its loose morals it only made La Dolce Vita more popular. Although it is now considered one of the best films of all time it was held in contention back in 1960.

3

Taxi Driver

The jury chair of cannes 1976 told the press “films should not take a voluptuous pleasure in spilling blood.” despite this poor review and the boos at screening, director martin scorsese was still awarded with a palme d’or for his film.

2

L’Avventura

When this movie about a woman who disappears from a boat trip premeired at cannes in 1960 the audience was in such an uproar that the director and star of L’Avventura had to vacate the theater. The film was given an award for the beauty of its images and for seeking to create a new film language.

4

L’Argent

a forged 500 franc note is passed along until it ends up in the hands of an innocent man eventually making him turn to crime and murder as a result. the 1983 jury allowed director robert bresson to share the prize for best director.

5

Wild At Heart

despite receiving loud boos from the audience led by film critic roger ebert, wild at heart snagged the palme d’or in 1990. in this film a convict and his girlfriend lula run away from lula’s mother who hired a man to kill them.

7

Crash

An overtly aggressive drama about car fetishists ended up winning a special jury prize at the 1996 cannes festival in the face of shrieks from a traumatized audience in response to the films explicit sex scenes.

6

Pulp Fiction

in 1994 when director quentin tarantino went to receive his palm d’or for the film, the audience jeered loudly claiming that the movie three colors red should have won instead. not only did pulp fiction win a palme d’or but it went on to win an oscar for best screenplay as well.

8 Blue Is the Warmest Color

the controversy revolving around this film was not so much about the content as the actions of the director, abdellatif kechiche. Kechiche was acccused of heinously mistreating his crew and the audience felt that made his film unworthy of the 2013 palme d’or.
