Connections
The festival side of the event was also a novel and entertaining experience for many delegates and attendees, and we enjoyed a concert by Ali Azmat (a famous Pakistani singer) as well as a special performance by Todd Shea, an American musician. Shea, who first came as a volunteer to Pakistan after the 2005 earthquake and has worked extensively on community-based relief efforts in Kashmir, serves as an inspiration for young people. Colorful and exuberant fashion shows and cultural performances by the foreign delegates in the evenings allowed us to learn more about the cultural backgrounds of different delegates. Together with other delegates from Punjab, I also had the opportunity to share our culture by teaching the international delegates some Punjabi Bhangra moves. These evening festivities truly highlighted the multicultural nature of the entire conference. By the end of the 4-day international conference all of us who had participated in the event stood as friends, strengthened in our resolve of creating a bond of unity. Abdi Rizaq, a delegate from Somalia, shared what all of us felt, when he said, “This conference is a bridge between our worlds. The IYCF 2010 showed us how wrong our preconceived ideas, stereotypical thinking and misconceptions about each other's countries really were. Most importantly, it showed how youth from developing countries like Pakistan can be leaders of harmony and peace in the world community. Introducing Pakistani youth to our counterparts around the world, this conference was a truly ground-breaking and much-needed forum for young activists and leaders to engage with each other and promote a peaceful and tolerant dialogue.

The Little-Known Facebook Man Amidst all these accolades, The Social Network, directed by David Fincher, presents a darker side of Facebook, portraying Zuckerberg as a status-obsessed, socially handicapped loner. The movie strongly drives the thesis that his main motivation for setting up Facebook was nothing more than a way of “getting into bed with some hotties
