By utilising filigree techniques on recycled 925 silver wire, The collection replicates the intricacy and delicate yet bold quality in Pekalongan Peranakan Batik Tulis. By combining wildflower petals with rice grain patterns and fillers found in one of the batik samples, a plant-like design is created that binds the whole collection.
Signifying the cycle of life, the collection also plays with the symbolism behind numbers and traditional batik motifs. As a whole, this collection tells the journey of Indonesian traditional batik into contemporary society, covering different types of modesty from a religious and fashion point of view.

CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY - JAN 2016
— RESPONSE:
Ayatori is a contemporary jewellery piece based on the string figures game “The Cat’s Cradle”. The jewellery encapsulates the essence of the game which is played by manipulating one string on and around one’s fingers or between the fingers of multiple people. Because of that, the shape of Ayatori jewellery is design based on the shape of the human hand.
The creation of thread motifs of the ring is inspired by one of the game rules, on which whenever someone is finished making one pattern, they have to pass it to another person by slipping it in between their fingers. If you were to cover half of the finished ring, the motif shown will be a mirror image of the covered part.

The waste materials given are composed of round wires, snake chains and jump rings in various lengths, sizes and conditions. To best utilise all of these materials, the design development step is approached by creating simple design compositions that consists of lines and circles with an overall design aesthetic inspired by the 1919 Bauhaus design movement in Weimar, Germany.
The end product highlight the Bauhaus aesthetic through its radically simplified form, questioning the value of “Beauty” in an object, and the relationship between form & function.

ALTERNATIVE WEDDING - OCT 2016
— RESPONSE:
The jewellery pieces from Van Zuylen Collection drew inspiration from the Indo-European Batik maestro Eliza Van Zuylen. Her batik artwork, which is characterised by its elaborate European flower bouquet patterns, was used in Pekalongan as either wedding attire for Indo-European women or as interior decoration in the late 19th century.
Referencing back to the pattern found in the original artwork and the fabric function, the composition of the elements on the Van Zuylen jewellery pieces are complex. The jewellery represent the concept of purity and duality in marriage.

CLIENT PROJECT - JUL 2015 to 2020
— RESPONSE:
Inspired by the story behind the creation of Coffee & Beyond to promote Indonesian coffee and connect people (farmers, roasters and consumers), the re-designed logo took a form of a simplified airmail stamp, retaining the heart shape logogram to encapsulate the company journey and passion for coffee.
Using the same concept, the supergraphics are composed of a coffee plant vector pattern and are used across the company’s primary marketing collateral as well as items used for brand activation purposes (product labels/ merchandise) to enhance Coffee & Beyond’s ethos.

CLIENT PROJECT - MAR 2015
— RESPONSE:
Pondok Suryo is owned by a family that originates from East Java, Indonesia. In the Javanese language, the word ‘suryo’ means ‘sun’, which symbolises passion, warmth and gentle quality in life. By combining the shape of the sun with other sun symbolisms and its owner’s culture, the new brand identity of Pondok Suryo was created.
The brand logogram is created by simplifying the shape of the sun into a stylised symbol similar to the Batik pattern found in East Java. From that process, three supergraphics and their seven variations were born. The logo, together with its supergraphics, created one practical and systematic brand identity that could easily be applied across the restaurant’s items and promotions.

— RESPONSE:
An anime series known as AKIRA (1982) was picked as the main inspiration for the invitation. The series heavily emphasised on the use of capsules as a symbol of control and manipulation of power.
Illustrated on the invitation cover is an act of someone who is about to drink his/her medication. It is a metaphor on how our behaviour regarding consumption and body image are unconciously being dictate by the media. With celebrities and fashion models setting standards for beauty ideals, there is little wonder that this would have an impact on consumers who desire to possess a thin image and be seen as fashionable or beautiful.

PRIVATE COMMISION - FEB 2015
— RESPONSE:
The name ‘BIBO’ comes from an ancient god monster legend in Taiwan. Thus, the restaurant logo is made from the reconstruction process of the Chinese pinyin character of ‘BI’ (鄙) and ’BO’ (薄).
The mythology describes BIBO as a god monster with intelligence. It’s figure is big and furry, similar to a bear. It has a lantern which lights up when it senses danger, and couldn’t speak any words other than “Bi-bo”. Based on that description a contemporary BIBO monster character is created as well as the other seven side characters and six storylines. These are used across the restaurant’s items, promotions and activations, forming the overall feel of a fun and quirky restaurant identity.

CLIENT PROJECT - DEC 2017
— RESPONSE:
INK Studio focuses on creating a ready-to-wear collection for both men, women, and those who defy the gender norm. The brand believes that clothes are a form of communication for someone to express their individuality. Their vision is for clients to own the clothes and infuse their style to it as a way to showcase their unique fashion sensibility. Having researched these, we know that personalisation is the key to their identity. Because of this, a versatile Identity was created for the brand.
The pattern-making process in pashion production inspired the shape of INK logo. It was designed to be simple yet effective as it could be used and adapt across all branding items as well as different collection themes.
