KC KIARA CALMET NOETH BACHELOR OF ARCHITECTURE
I believe in an architecture that emphasizes the interaction between nature and artificiality. It should act as the mean for the user to gain consciousness and experience the space he inhabits. I personally consider architecture should be fluid and light, never impose itself on its environment and try to place itself organically on the ground. This portfolio shows the last projects I developed through the different workshops as an architecture student at the University of Applied Sciences of Lima, Perú. In each one of them, I try to pursue different formal and functional design strategies to achieve the interaction among public and private users and evidence the interior – exterior relationship. Nature is a vital part of my line of design, maybe because of the country I was born in. With such beautiful landscapes, views, and diversity; I believe it should always play the part of the protagonist in every architectural work; and participate in inner spaces as well as it does in outer spaces. Architecture should always ensure the value of its habitat.

TOURIST FISHING TERMINAL TX THESIS PROJECT 2017-01 PUCUSANA, LIMA, PERÚ The project is set in the coast of Pucusana, a Peruvian beach known for its vast diversity of marine species and resources. Currently, a fishing terminal is located there, but its deplorable conditions make it hard for the fishermen to process all the merchandise they bring from overseas and affects the quality of the fishermen’s lives and incomes. The municipality of the district had envisioned the reconstruction of the terminal to ensure the improvement of the fishing activity. There were also several articles mentioning the upgrade of public and green areas around the coast. This is all part of the investigation prior to the development of the design, which is needed to support the viability of the project.

“Based on the concept of abstraction and the study of the architecture that lays beyond; in which one can not intuit the limit within. This is embodied when a design that interacts with the natural environment and vice versa, letting the spatiality leak out of the concrete casket. Ito, Toyo. (2000). Blurring Architecture. (Translated) The architectural design emphasizes the fluidity of the premises through the overlapping of platforms. It is divided by two buildings. the cultural center penetrates the topography, while gastronomic building aligns to the coast borders. They are connected by pedestrian bridges that pass over a vehicular road, which serves as a mean for interaction and integration of private and public users, in addition to a light well for in - and out coming vehicles.
05
Fishing terminals possess an industrial-commercial character and, being placed on the coastal line, they usually jeopardize areas dedicated to public spaces. This is the case of the actual fishing terminal in Pucusana, where industry and commerce are the main economic activities of the district. Currently, the fishing terminal focuses on the profit; regardless of the damages it causes on the environment, healthiness and image of the seashore. Therefore, the new terminal aims to gather both industrial-commercial and cultural activities in order to bring sustainability to the district decentralizing the economic cycle. The district has a lack of public and green areas, and the boardwalk acts more like a sea wall, which frustrates the interaction between the townsfolk and the beach, which the investigation prior to the design of the project confirmed.
06
FLOOR PLANS SCALE 1/250 The Tourist Fishing Terminal contemplates an area dedicated to processing, exportation and storage of the extracted resources and a docking spring, as well as a gastronomic market dedicated to the sale of fresh fishery products, restaurants, cafes and food courts. It also includes a Cultural Centre dedicated to the promotion of the different fishing activities developing in Pucusana, in addition to the promoting the preservation of the natural reserve located on the island that stands in front of the beach.
The thesis project also comprehends the development of the new boardwalk, as a part of the master plan. The purpose of the design was to involve the seashore into the everyday life of the townsfolk through a series of staircases, which allow the seawater to be a part of the cement platforms. Based on the study of viability, this would provide the interaction with nature townsfolk need to start getting involved in the preservation of the natural habitat they occupy.

DESIGN STRATEGY CONCEPT
Many different design strategies were implemented in the development of the building. The previous investigation contained an analysis of diverse referential projects, which showed the importance of the diversification of activities. Ideally, a fishing terminal, should provide public spaces in order to compensate for it’s industrial activities. It should also moderately integrate the public to the different industrial processes, so they can understand and value the fishing activity. The Tourist Fishing Terminal is envisioned to be a fluid public space, in which all surfaces are walkable and appealing to the users. The different angles emphasize visual axes, project to the horizon or the topography, and the many voids allow a dynamic interaction between public and private users of the building.
11
The project’s main concept lays on the importance of natural landscapes, the participation of the environment on the path through the building and the transition from the topography’s organic morphology to the horizontality of the sea. The premises act as a public building that provides recreational and green spaces which show the native vegetation of the coastal desert of Pucusana. The purpose of the project is to be the least invasive possible on the natural environment and integrate to it’s urban surroundings.

The ongoing traffic jams make it impossible for them to access easily and quickly to their destinations and needs. For the urban development in 1/1000 an integrated transportation system was proposed; composed by metro and bus lines, and bikeways, in order to reduce the need for private vehicles and, consequently, traffic jams. Additionally, a series of commercial, cultural and educational urban poles were proposed along the commercial avenue, as well as recreational and public areas connected to them by a green axis.

DESIGN STRATEGY CONCEPT
For the analysis, an approximate of 4 blocks on each way of the avenue were considered as an influence ratio. The different characteristics and qualities of the area determine the viability of the urban development plan and final architectural project; which is to propose a green axis along the commercial avenue that integrates the underwater channels and aquifers found in the diagnosis. In addition, private vehicles and mass transportation would be placed underground, leaving the surface as a shared space street. The intermodal station was designed to be a fluid element that unfolds from the surface in a non invasive way. The shape of an “S allows the terminal dynamism and movement that provide a panoramic view to the surroundings that, at its end emphasizes a longitudinal visual axe. The building is permeable and accessible by the public, and its ceiling is walkable. The integration and interaction with its natural environment is achieved through a virtual front and inserts itself into a large artificially exposed aquifer.

URBAN REGENERATION QUEBRADA VERDE TVIII URBAN DEVELOPMENT PROJECT 2015-02 PACHACAMAC, LIMA, PERÚ The village of Quebrada Verde is located in the agricultural area of the district of Pachacamac; an hour away from Lima, the Peruvian capital. Its inhabitants do not have basic services like drinking water and drainage, despite being in a space with many potential resources. For the urban regeneration workshop, a group research and analysis of the potential resources found in Quebrada Verde was developed; such as ground water and alluvial wells, lack of infrastructure and public spaces, the Lurin river basin and agricultural areas.

25
PACHACAMAC BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION The district of Pachacamac is located in the valley of the Lurin river, and it’s history goes back to pre-Incan times, where pre-Hispanic cultures developed large ceremonial and pilgrimage centers like the oracle along the river’s slope. It also was a place where agricultural and livestock activities were developed, which remain until today because of the great resources found in the area. Today, many resources aren’t exploited because there’s a lack of investment by the government and not much information within the reach of the inhabitants in this aspect. By not having basic services such as drinking water and sewage, the residents of the district rather move to the more civilized areas of the city of Lima. This is generating a worrying abandonment of homes and families in the area which is in time to reverse.

POTENTIAL RESOURCES ANALYSIS GROUP RESEARCH
A large investigation following the different resources of interest was conducted in order to determine which were most convenient to develop. The underwater analysis was the priority, considering that the people of Quebrada Verde do not have drinking water or drainage. The analysis showed that the village is located above a network of underground water channels. The alluvial wells contain water that isn’t drinkable, but can be used for drainage and agricultural activities. On a different study, the affluence analysis showed that commercial activities surround the path tourists make on their vehicles when they do adventure tours and trekking on the green hills. This area is the most visible to visitors and has great affluence of people due to the different activities it offers; and the study on security showed it to be the safest, being also the most illuminated. This leaves the borders of the village most vulnerable to theft, as mentioned by several interviewed inhabitants.

The final purpose of the research was to develop an architectural project that contemplated the urban and social deficiencies found in Quebrada Verde. That is why an urban park was proposed on a vacant lot that will allow the expansion of the current influx perimeter. This in addition, will allow a greater animation during the different hours of the day, which will reduce the insecurity in its surroundings and would also remedy the lack of public spaces in the village. The park is fed by a groundwater treatment plant that is under the proposed facilities, which will also provide water for agricultural activities and drainage. On the other hand, the design strategy derived from the analysis of the urban plot, which showed porosity, irregularity and open spaces.

The design emphasized the creation of dynamic and different spaces that patients could remember by notions or feelings. Each space that patients must travel to reach the clinic's facilities is characterized by various design elements, which allows them to be differentiated. In addition, all the public spaces of the building were designed in curves to allow a greater fluidity and harmony between the person and the space that he inhabits. Green areas were also considered inside the building, since it has been shown that contact with nature and natural light favor the patient's mood, emotional stability and possible recovery.

HOUSE ANAYA-ALVA DEVELOPMENT IN COOPERATION WITH MOA TINGO MARIA, HUÁNUCO, PERÚ The project is set in the city of Tingo María, Huánuco, Perú; placed on the center-north of the country, by the edge of the amazon jungle. The house was ordered by an elderly couple who wants to receive its children during their vacations, since they study at the capital. This is why all services; such as living-room, kitchen, laundry room and parking space, and the master bedroom are located on the first floor. The visit rooms are found on the second floor.
43
The design of the project was based on the connection with all the natural elements in the environment that surrounds the house. The distribution was solved with a “C” typology of a patio house; a very common typological solution in the Viceroyal Lima. This provides a private garden and a great entrance of natural light. Considering other climatological elements, the ceiling had to be designed as a gable roof, because of the many precipitations in the area. To add dynamism to the interior spaces, a brick wall with empty spots was proposed on the façade, which allows the entry of small points of light. These gaps were also proposed so that in the future, typical Amazonian vines would be placed and the façade could also act as a green wall.

MULTIFAMILIAR BUILDING DEVELOPMENT FOR AN ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS COMPETITION IN PARTNERSHIP WITH RAFAEL VERGARA LIMA, PERĂš
This building of 14 apartments is born of a reflection: how to improve the multifamily housing architecture in Lima. In favor of the optimization of resources and square meters, current projects leave aside the search for spatiality, quality of life of users and the use of natural conditions and sustainability. This project intends to show that this set of variables can result in an economically viable building, as well as result in a modern habitat that guarantees a comfortable and healthy quality of life in contact with the natural conditions of the environment. a volumetric game was made to achieve a perceptible spatial dynamism from the facade, giving each department a greater height in the social areas. All departments have cross ventilation and natural lighting in all their environments. As a housing unit, each apartment has an area of 110m2 and is distributed in 3 bedrooms, living room, exposed kitchen, laundry, 2 master bathrooms and one visitor, and a parking lot, as required by the standard. The building also includes common meeting areas in the entrance hall, and on the roof terrace areas with gardens and a longitudinal swimming pool.
