MLA Candidates Respond to Local Issues By Jo Anne Malpass Three Shuswap MLA candidates introduced themselves and responded to questions, which included rural economies, health care and balanced budgets, at the All Candidates Meeting April 20 at the North Shuswap Community Hall. About 50 residents attended the meeting, hosted by the North Shuswap Chamber of Commerce and moderated by Chamber President Dave Cunliffe. Kevin Babcock for the Green Party has lived in Salmon Arm for the past 10 years. He has been working in the labour force for the past 20 years for the railway, aerospace, and now the plywood industry. While working full time, he is raising two children, ages three and six, and taking

courses through Okanagan College and Thompson Rivers University where he is in his fourth year as a philosophy major. He wants to see good policies being put forth without unnecessary delays, either on the right or left, if they are good for BC. He said he sees people in the labour force counting down the time to retirement. He wants to help people get into careers that will inspire them. “The pillars of our platform make it easier for people to choose their own career so they can earn what they are truly worth, enjoy their work, and control their own destiny.” Greg Kyllo for the Liberal Party has lived in the Shuswap for 40 years, married for 28 years with four grown daughters all (Continued on page 3)
