Influencer duo, sisters, London and Sedona Fuller (@londonandsedona) have been showcasing their talents since they were just 3 months old. Starting their career with commercials, the girls quickly moved to the big screen most recently with a role appearing alongside Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly’s daughter in the film Bombshell. They now wow their fans not only on the screen, but through their social media as well as their YouTube Channel. KIDFASH spoke with the two, and mom, Alexis, to discuss the path that led to their successful career and what insight they can share for other young actresses looking to follow a similar direction.
Girls Will Be Girls
People have always been drawn to their energy and when they’re together their energy on camera shines. The starlets may be naturals in front of the camera, but of course they are little girls first, and mom stresses the importance of allowing that to happen! “Having started acting since they were so young, being on a set has always been comfortable and not unusual for them,” says Alexis. “It has definitely always been something that, as long as they enjoy it, we would help make it Yet behavior on a set as a baby or young child, of course, is not always predictable. “I definitely have to keep them in line. Obviously as young children, they can be a little wild because they can be in their own little world of fun,” says Alexis. “But we try to instill in them the importance of being professional and understanding that everyone on set has a job to do. They now take things seriously but also have fun at the same time.”
When they got their start, they were just babies, and their first shoot was a commercial with mom, who has also acted and modeled, so the lifestyle came naturally. “However, they did get to a time as toddlers where they didn’t want to be around strangers, so we stopped for a while,” says Alexis. “The other benefit of them starting at such a young age, they don’t see their acting success as defining them, which as a parent to young actresses is the best you can hope for.”
As is typical with twin actors, they have done many roles together, however as they get older that will not always be the case. “With babies and young kids, a lot of projects want twins because of the work restrictions on kids. They can have you on set longer as twins. It helps maximize the time on set.” So, it was very beneficial then because they could both play the same character. Now that they’re a little older there’s not as many roles for twins.”
Lessons for a Lifetime
Many of the skills the girls have learned, can also be invaluable lessons that any young person can apply to being successful in a career. Being so young when they got their start, they first had to learn to memorize lines by listening to audio recordings over and over. “At a very young age they became very skilled at memorization, which I think has helped them in their regular lives as well as acting,” says Alexis. “They have also learned how to present themselves and walk into a room with confidence. They’ve never really been nervous for anything. I’m so glad we’ve been able to give them that gift.”
Of course, maintaining an education is also very important for the twins and mom makes sure they stay on task. “I feel like we still get to learn a lot in school. We do school on set. Our regular teacher sends the work with us and we do it with the set teacher. We must be very organized and self-motivated. We take breaks from learning lines to do homework. And then we take breaks from homework to learn lines. It’s all about time management.”
For many young actors, their first manager, coach or inspiration comes from a parent. For the girls, Alexis, has taken the lead in their training. “I did a little modeling and acting, and I have a degree in theater. So, it’s been kind of fun to work with them over the years. But it’s also difficult because I’m their mom and they don’t always want to listen to their mom. So, there’s a fine line between coaching them and driving them nuts. I work with them so much that I know what they need to work on. They’re finally getting to an age where they can understand character development and empathy. That’s been a fun thing for me to do with them.
They have also learned that being professional and doing a job is as important to their career as it is to others. This a level of responsibility that many do not learn until much older and advanced in a career. “We stress the importance of being professional and that everyone, all the many different people, support their families by having filming be done on time without delays. They understand they need to be prepared as the entire crew depends on them.”
Learning from Others
Working on a variety of great shows and films with some of the best in the business is also a bonus for a young actor. Many times, these seasoned professionals will lend some words of advice or guide them to correct small techniques. The twins have wonderful things to say about many of the co-stars they have shared screens with. “Julie Bowen gave us great advice when we worked on Modern Family,” says London. “She told us that as an actress, we get paid to stand around and wait. We know she was joking, but it’s sometimes true. You can sometimes stand around all day for your part. And it takes an entire day to film a scene. Like my part in Captain Marvel! But that was still super fun because I just played at the beach all day. Usually the director can help a lot. In Bombshell, Jay Roach really helped me with how to look only surprised and then quickly scared.”
Mom has also involved other people when she felt like they needed more help. “My former acting coach, Dennis LaValle, has done many private sessions with them,” says Alexis. “They took acting classes for a while, which we thought was important to get peer reactions and understanding how other kids work.” They also draw a lot of inspiration from other young actresses. “We learned a ton from McKenna Grace,” says London. “She’s so cool and such a good actress. She’s also a good friend. McKenna works hard at her acting skills. Her emotions are genuine and she’s very nice. We also love, love, love, the actors on Alexa & Katie, their names are Paris Berelc and Isabel May.”
However, it’s not only their television co-stars. They follow quite a lot of online stars too and gain insight from those role models as well. “I love InquisitorMaster on YouTube,” says Sedona. “She is super girly but also super dark. She’s got both sides. It’s good to have both sides and be who you are. And I’m the same way. She’s also very funny.”
Making Good Use of Time
As we have all learned this past year, things can change in an instant. With COVID and quarantining, the industry was in a sort of holding pattern. However, the girls took this time to hone their online talents as they put more effort into their Instagram endorsements and YouTube Channel. “The girls really put their heart into it and loved just working together from home,” says Alexis. “They had started watching YouTube videos on their own, so it was cute to watch them observe what they saw and apply it to their own channel. It has allowed them to keep developing creativity even with
the industry being shut down.” “We love doing the unboxing videos,” says Sedona. “Our favorite things to unwrap are the clothes and toy boxes. The Poopsy Slime unboxing videos were the most fun.”
It’s been a learning experience for them too! “We help our dad edit the videos too,” says Sedona. “We’ve learned so much about editing. Like changing the speed and the music in the background. There are stickers on them, and we get to choose them. You should definitely watch them!” London has even taken her interest and created a channel specifically around her favorite online dress up simulator called Gacha Life.”I have my own YouTube channel just for my Gacha Life videos,” says London. “I love editing because you can do whatever you want. You can control the image and the way people talk. Our acting has taught us a new hobby of directing and editing.”
We are all anticipating how the world will change forever after COVID, and the acting world may see some new pattern as well. The girls are eager to get back to work but can speculate on how things may change. “We’re super used to home auditions now,” says Sedona. “We can make lots of mistakes and we know they will be edited out. It might make it harder to memorize lines now. I think we’ll be able to get back to normal in no time though.”
“I think Casting Directors will want to go back into the audition room because it will be easier to see it in person and meet people,” says London. But I don’t think it will be forever. Everything was slowed down because of Covid-19 but we have had so many auditions lately. Doing auditions from home has been great! But sometimes it isn’t as fun because we want to be able to see the people there. And show them our personalities.”
Final words of encouragement from the girls to others, “try your best and you’ll succeed. Good luck!”
