WHAT FASHION MEANS TO ME? I think what I love most about fashion is that there isn’t just one strict meaning for everyone. Fashion is fluid and that’s what makes it so special. Fashion to me is my identity. It’s how I want the world to look at me. It’s putting on black ripped jeans one day and shifting to a dress the next because they both represent who I am. Fashion, like me, has the ability to change. It has the ability to start clean and fresh with simple fluctuations of mood. Fashion is an opportunity for anything to happen and anything to change. It is timeless and never-ending. Fashion to me is a way in which I can express myself through my emotions and interests. Similar to a painter, I can use fashion as the blank canvas that the artist would begin with. Fashion represents freedom. It gives me the ability to move freely without consequence, moving from one outfit to the next. Fashion is constantly evolving, while style lasts forever. Mikayla Jean SURVIVING AND THRIVING WITH AUTISM

Look deep into the crystal blue eyes of Mikayla Jean and you’ll find a girl with big dreams and an even bigger story. With determination and success, Mikayla Jean has become a budding star shining through in all she puts her mind to. A model, actress, song writer, to list just a few, she is quite an impressive young girl, but not only for these achievements. Mikayla Jean is Autistic, and for some that may be a road block but for her it is an outlet for using her voice to inspire others to face their challenges and turn them into dreams. Diagnosed when she was just 4-years-old, Mikayla Jean’s Autism has been with her as long as she can remember, yet it has only made her push harder for what she wants. "Autism does not define who I am," says Mikayla Jean. "It is a part of who I am that makes me unique. I believe that I can achieve anything I want and that nothing will hold me back." Autism is a developmental disorder that affects communication and behavior and remains relatively misunderstood. As Mikayla Jean has proven, those with autism are just as capable as anyone else of achieving incredible success.

For Mikayla Jean, her autism came with many sensory issues that have been her biggest obstacle. Through years of therapy, Mikayla Jean has learned to overcome issues such as tactile and auditory irritation. Fashion shows in particular can be her biggest challenge. “Big fashion shows can get very overwhelming,” says Mikayla Jean. “It is really loud and busy back in the dressing room waiting to walk the runway I try to listen to music on my ear pods to block out some of the noise. It helps to be open and up front with everyone I work with.” No stranger to challenges, Mikayla Jean credits her mother for giving her the strength she has needed to overcome
obstacles. “She is a warrior,” Mikayla Jean says of her mother. “She battled stage three breast cancer. She is strong and brave and never gives up. She always stays positive. She inspires me the most.” Mikayla Jean has taken these life experiences and used them as motivation to help others whenever possible. Through her involvement in several non-profit organizations Mikayla Jean raises awareness for causes that are important to her, including Autism Speaks, Mama Mare Breast Cancer Foundation and Play Unified, a sports and activity club that promotes tolerance and social acceptance by giving kids with disabilities a chance to be part of a team. She's also extremely appreciative of the Old Bridge Militia Foundation. "They pay for music lessons for kids that can't afford to get them, or are going through hard times," says Mikayla Jean. "They have been supporting me for many years now."

For one of her favorite fashion brands, Sugar Lulu, Mikayla Jean had the opportunity to help design a crop top and leggings set called Dare to be Yourself. Proceeds from the sale of the clothing were donated to autism awareness. "I have been very lucky to be apart of amazing brands that promote kindness and positivity," says Mikayla Jean. Seeing the beauty in all things she has faced has definitely helped Mikayla Jean achieve her success. "I believe in being open and honest about having Autism," says Mikayla Jean. "That it might show others that anything is possible. It's important to bring awareness to Autism. To educate people. To have inclusion for all. To never let anything stop you. Hello 2022...this is my year." She also takes vocal lessons at Rock Out Loud through the Old Bridge Militia foundation. Rock out Loud has given Mikayla Jean many incredible opportunities to show her talent at big venues. She recently sang at The House of Independence in Asbury Park NJ and will be performing in June in NYC at the Bitter End. A stage where Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen once performed.

“I loved shooting anything and everything.” You might recognize our latest feature photographer from her previous work in front of the camera. Ava Cantrell is an award winning actress who has been steadily booking acting gigs since she was 8 years old. Recently this talented 20 year old has flipped the script and ventured into the magical world of photography. Now she is making her mark behind the camera, as well as in front. Ava got her first “real camera” when she was 13 and she’s been passionate about photography ever since. She used it as a creative outlet for years and strived to be skilled at it. Cantrell says, “I loved shooting anything and everything.” She enjoys the challenge of learning more- from setting up the perfect shot, to editing the photos, and then having a final product. She adds,“I also feel accomplished after finishing an album and putting it out into the world. It is a tangible piece of art that I can share with others, see in magazines, and our clients can love.” Ava’s photography business came about from multiple magazines requesting photos and interviews with her. In order to make the most of every opportunity, Ava and her mom, Janina, decided to do it themselves. Since Janina is an experienced stylist, she handled that side of the business while Ava took charge of setting up the shots and editing the photos. Ava says, “Between us, we have skills and talents that are very specific. Magazines were loving our pictures and vibe and would keep asking, ‘Who is the rest of the team?’ We would have to say, ‘We ARE the team’. Once we started coming out the other side of the pandemic I wanted to try making it a business. It took off relatively fast, and I am really enjoying being behind the camera.”

From their very first shoot, this mother and daughter duo viewed their new venture like the professional shoots that Ava had previously been on in front of the camera. Ava says, “I think because we had that past experience, we knew exactly what we needed to do. Style, teach, entertain, mentor, and edit quickly and not have people wait too long on us. Because we started Shoot One like this, what surprised us is how fast we got noticed. We are super thankful for all of the magazines that believe in us and are really thankful to you KidFash.” Being behind the lens helps Ava when she’s in front of the lens and vice versa. She explains, “The two are very closely tied. Understanding how cameras work and how to convey emotion through a screen is a skill that actors excel at. When you are behind a camera, that knowledge makes it easier to be the one capturing things. As an actor your goal is to evoke something from the audience, and I love guiding models to do the same. I also understand camera angles as I know what looks best on my face, and can find the best angles pretty fast on clients.”
The Covid-19 Pandemic has taught Ava the importance of adapting and changing to fluctuating situations. Originally, she was doing lots of group shoots but soon realized that many clients wanted a more individual experience. Now, she still does one group each month, but has changed the main focus to individuals. Also, she learned a valuable lesson about how valuable time is and how frustrating cancellations can be. Ava explains, “It is surprising that people will cancel as much as they do. 2022 will bring about bigger deposits. My time is very valuable and I know my worth. I only want to work with people that know my worth.”
In her free time, Ava likes to surf, rock-climb, try other challenging activities, and occasionally just unwind and read a good book! Her parents inspire her greatly. Ava says that they are intelligent, creative, positive, talented, savvy, kind, and strong. They share all their knowledge with her and are her biggest supporters and motivators.
It is surprising that people will cancel as much as they do.
Positivity and good vibes are priorities to Ava. She gushes, “It is one of the most important things in life! Surround yourself with people with “Good Vibes”. It makes life 1000x better, and being around good people has a way of bringing out the best in ourselves!” I have so much fun shooting! I love seeing it all come together the day of the shoot, having fun with models, and taking pictures of their beauty along with cool concepts, and gorgeous fashion.”

Ava enjoys working with kids because of how their personalities can be “so big and unedited. Some are super adventurous and outgoing and others are really introspective and thoughtful.” In the future she’d love to photograph actress Lily Collins because of Lily’s “Bright energy!” Ava also wants to pursue Wildlife photography at some point, as she is drawn to it. She explains, “A longtime goal of mine is to work for National Geographic. I love reading NatGeo and taking in the breathtaking photos that capture the earth's natural beauty.”
The most fun photoshoots Ava’s done so far were a beach shoot and a ballet shoot. She explains, “I have personal ties to each; I am a surfer and a classically trained ballerina. The beach shoot was chaotic in the best way! So many fun girls, adorable outfits, and [an] amazing location! The ballet shoot was so beautiful and the girls were all so talented. The outfits and location looked great together and it was my first time shooting en pointe ballerinas.”

Moving into 2022 Cantrell is bringing her passion for the Earth and her stylist’s love for Earth-Friendly fashion. Mother Earth series brings attention to our Earth as well as the value of wearing Earth-friendly fashions. Cantrell and team style with non-fast fashion. They are excited to not only offer editorial sessions but Mother Earth and goddess sessions where they spend the day with the client evolving onto an element of earth or sky. Ms. Cantrell’s advice for aspiring photogs: “Be unique and true to yourself. We each bring something new to the table as photographers.The world of photography does not need a million of the same thing, and you won’t stand out that way. Bringing something fresh to the table attracts clients, and it's more fun for both of you! Also, no one and I mean NO ONE is your competition. I learned that in acting. Photographers, like actors, are all unique and special. Find what you are passionate about and what makes you special.”

And even moreso when you are given opportunities to pursue those passions with inspiration, support, and creativity. How exciting when your dedication and hard work rewards you with new friendships and opportunities to grow! This is the story of Sasha (@sashita-fierce), our newly crowned champion of the inaugural 2021 KidFash Magazine Virtual Dance-Off Competition. She advanced through four rounds of fierce dance-offs, and was selected as the 1st place winner among the finalists with her winning hip-hop dance solo performance. We are so excited for you to get to know a little bit about her! Sasha began dancing at the tender age of three years old, training at the highest level in all types of dance over the last several years. Currently, she finds she truly comes alive when performing salsa or hip hop-styles of dance. Parris Goebel, the famed choreographer and dancer, is her biggest inspiration, and, Sasha notes that she would "love to have the opportunity to dance on her crew one day!"
Through hard work and perseverance you can make "every move a MOVEMENT". As fellow performing artists, we fully understand the unmistakable allure of those moments we all train for: walking onto a stage in full costume, hair and makeup, ready at your mark, taking in the silent anticipation of the audience, and letting your art take over as soon as you hear the first note of your cue. For Sasha, her favorite dance memory was performing her solo on a stage for the first time. She shares, "I remember being so nervous before getting on stage and my incredible coach, Tiffany Rivera, and my mom made me feel like such a celebrity. Being playful and silly with them before hitting the stage is super special to me and a positive mindset definitely helps with your performance." Knowing how much a costume can enhance your experience, we also asked Sasha about her favorite dance costume she has ever worn. She excitedly shared that, "I was drawn to dance initially because of the beautiful and elaborate costumes! Salsa costumes in general are my favorite. The bright colors, the blingalicious sparkle and the big movement is INCREDIBLE! My favorite costume that I’ve performed in is a green salsa costume for the Apollo performance in 2017." Not only is Sasha an accomplished dancer, but a kind and compassionate role model who encourages other young dancers as well. She shared, "Being a young dancer, you tend not to see many performers your age or not anyone that you can follow or look up to. I want to be an example for my peers of what is possible. Through hard work and perseverance you can make “every move a MOVEMENT”. This is a motto that I guided by every day. I encourage young performers to reach out to me if there is anything I can do to educate, motivate or guide them through. " Sounds like a champion to us!

I think it is very important to give off good vibes because the world needs more of it. There is so much negativity in the world that I like to do my part with spreading good vibes and positivity. It makes me feel good to give others love and support. Good vibes for me starts with my mindset first thing in the morning which carries me through giving off good vibes in the day. Zion Rupert (IG: @DanceZion525) is a 9-year-old boy from Sherman Oaks, California, who fell in love with dance at the age of 3. Zion is the middle sibling of two brothers, (Israel and Levi Rupert), who are all being raised by their father, Sylvester Rupert, who's a single parent. Zion initially became interested in dance by seeing the art in action. Zion’s dad (who is his biggest cheerleader) motivates him to keep going by always being present, taking him to all his rehearsals, and reminding him that he can do anything when he allows passion to lead. Formally trained in many styles of dance, Zion is a multi-faceted performer. He states, “I have been dancing with Ms. Debbie Allen since I was 4 years old at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. Ms. Debbie Allen has been one of the biggest inspirations in my life." Adding to his training, Zion also later became a student at Marat Daukeyev School of Ballet where he's learning Russian Ballet. When asked what he likes most about dancing, Zion will answer that he likes the many different costumes he gets to wear, and the ability to perform on a stage in front of a lot of people. He says the hardest part of dance is the fact that it is incredibly time consuming; the hours can sometimes feel endless. However, when it comes down to it, the good aspects of the fine arts most definitely outshine the bad ones. Zion loves the amazing memories that he has made so far, saying, “There are so many wonderful memories to choose from. One of my favorite memories was being offered a leading role in a film called ‘Slow Pulse’ written and directed by Marshall Tyler. I played a boy named Jacob who was being raised by a single father. Jacob was a dancer whose dreams got cut short when he was involved in a hit and run, causing him to wind up in a coma. A couple other memories include (which is my

favorite) being in the ongoing production of Ms. Debbie Allen's "Hot Chocolate Nutcracker," where this past year I got to play the son, Franky. I also enjoyed playing Fritz in Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker Ballet.’” Unfortunately, not all the memorable experiences were good ones. Like many other children, Zion has been the victim of bullying. It all began around the age of 6, and it has continued throughout his life in various situations. He was targeted for being seen as "different." Kids made fun of his skin color, the texture of his hair, and the fact that he is a boy that dances. He was told black boys especially are not real dancers and they only do Hip-Hop. Zion is trained in Vaganova Ballet, African, Jazz, Tap, C o n t e m p o r a r y, Modern, Horton, Hip-Hop, and Flamenco.” Aside from that Zion trains as a gymnast, a tumbler, contortionist, as well as parkour and tricking. Zion
“THEY TALKED ABOUT MY DARK COLOR SKIN, THE TEXTURE OF MY HAIR ” says, “At school it was this one kid who would always make fun of me and even give me the middle finger. In class there were other kids who would call me stupid, telling me I'm dumb, call me ugly, and would tease me about being a dancer. I was even called the “n” word before. This made me feel very sad and really hurt my feelings. Sometimes I would cry alone wondering why people didn't like me. When I would tell the teachers, the mean kids would make up lies saying I called them names first. I told my dad, who is very protective. My dad always comes to my rescue and reassures me how smart, handsome, talented and gifted I am. He always tells me how much he believes in me and how much he loves me. He says to never be silent and to never lose my voice to become someone else’s echo.” Dancing should have been a way for Zion to escape the negativity, however, even in the act of pursuing his passion he wasn’t always protected from ridicule. As being one of the only black boys in a previous ballet school he used to attend, he was also talked about and judged…this coming more from the parents of the kids who had been there longer than Zion. Zion had been placed in a higher level than their child, and he was much younger. The parents were not very happy about that and started to complain. One parent even went as far as threatening to take their money from the school if their child (who was older than Zion) wasn’t placed in the upper levels with Zion or if Zion wasn’t put in a lower level. Despite the negativity, Zion’s determination and devotion to dance helps him continue doing what he loves most. Not to mention, aside from his dad, Zion has a great support team; his God dad Dorien Wilson, his aunt Rahsaana Johnson, and of course his two brothers. They all play a vital role in both his personal and professional life.

Zion is not alone. According to the National Bullying Prevention Center, 1 out of every 5 students reported being bullied in 2019. In addition to being bullied, many kids have witnessed their peers being bullied. Zion admits, “I have [seen others being bullied] and I stood up for them by telling the teacher or telling the bully to stop. I would be nice to the kid who was being bullied because I know how it felt.” He wishes bullies would just stop being mean. To all the other victims Zion says, “Standup for yourself and tell someone. Don't wait! Surround yourself with positive friends that make you smile and laugh. And NEVER let anyone tell you what you CAN'T do." Since social media, friends and parents are incredibly influential in the lives of children, it’s important that we all band together and have healthy discussions about the dangers of bullying. We need to work together to put an end to it. According to stopbullying.gov “Kids who are bullied can experience negative physical, social, emotional, academic, and mental health issues.” Very often, those damaging effects are carried into adulthood and can create harmful lifelong patterns. Zion suggests having more videos and live demonstrations on the seriousness of bullying as well as adding anti-bullying clubs at school. He says, “I think bullying needs to
immediately be dealt with when it happens because sometimes bullies can make kids want to want to commit suicide. That's not fair!" To make the world a better place, Zion believes that kids and teens should think about other people's feelings. He tries to always give off Good Vibes by just being himself and making his friends laugh. Zion says that he loves to smile. Other passions that Zion has (that most aren't aware of), he really loves cooking and also wants to be a chef and firefighter aside from a professional dancer/choreographer. Two people he truly admires and strive to be like are Alvin Ailey and Ms. Debbie Allen. Zion said he wants to open up his own dance academy to help other kids reach their dreams just like his mentor, Ms. Debbie Allen has done for him and countless other children and young adults. For other kids who aspire to dance, Zion advises, “Work very hard! Don't give up, especially if this is something you really want to do with your life. And don't just stop at wanting to be a dancer, go ALL THE WAY! Stay in school! Never limit yourself to just one thing. HAVE FUN! Treat this as exactly what it is...moving art! Whatever inspires you to do what you love, focus on that.”

"My favorite part of working with Sedona is encouraging her, telling her, 'Are you ready?!' With matching bright blue eyes, luscious blonde locks, and talent that surpasses their years of experience, Los Angeles native twins London and Sedona Fuller might have you seeing double! Although the duo shares a strong resemblance, KidFash learned what makes these ten-and-a-half year-olds unique in an exclusive, tell-all interview. These sisters have a serious array of interests, from fencing to cheerleading to drawing to pottery to acting! Their acting careers began at 4-months-old with features in national commercials and have since taken off to include a YouTube channel, appearances on a well-known television series, and roles in major motion pictures. Although working alongside family is not always easy, these sisters use their familial bond as an asset to their acting. According to London, "My favorite part of working with Sedona is encouraging her, telling her, 'Are you ready?!' or just hanging out in the car on the way to set or on set. I love exploring the set together and eating food together. Did we mention the food?" Sedona jumped in, "Yes! Also getting food together! I like that we have the same script so we can help each other, and we can do it together and have fun during the times we wait for our scene."

Whether it's practicing together, snacking together, or adventuring together in between scenes, London and Sedona's relationship reminds us that there is no better friend or supporter than a sister. "We both have different strengths! I am pretty fast at memorization, so I can help test Sedona. Sedona is very good at showing emotion. She can even cry on cue!" said London. London was featured on the screen as young Captain Marvel! She appreciated this special role because "Captain Marvel is so tough and stands up for herself when she gets pushed down!" Sedona's personal favorite role to date? Betty from Modern Family! That's right; you might recognize the Fuller twins from the beloved 11-season sitcom. This character was especially fun not only because she has a pet gerbil, but because she's accidentally filmed Phil (Tyle Burrell) in his underwear! Even London agrees that Sedona's personality emulates Betty's character. By living out their dreams and staying positive, London and Sedona are committed to spreading good vibes to everyone they meet. London can always be found laughing or lending a helping hand to someone in need by. She reflected on a time where a girl came into school without her brother and went to the bathroom to cry. London shared, "I went to the bathroom and asked her if everything was okay. She told me that she just missed her brother. I stayed there and comforted her until she felt better and actually ended up receiving a special Kindness Award from school! It feels really good to be nice."

Just like their looks, Sedona shares her kind spirit with her twin sister. She, too, loves cheering others up and bringing positivity wherever she goes. Sedona remembered, "At our big cheer competition last weekend, one of my teammates was crying after our final performance. Our team did really well, so I didn't understand why she was crying. I just went up to her and asked how she was doing. She explained it was her first competition, but her parents weren't able to come. It was really difficult for her to see everyone else hugging their parents, and she became very sad. I hugged her tightly and tried to be there for her to cheer her up!" Kindness is a lifestyle for Sedona and London, who both came up with the idea for "Wrap-A-Rock" and partnered with the Lollipop Theater Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing entertainment to children in hospitals across America. "Wrap-A-Rock" is a fun craft kit designed to create personalized photo holders for children in hospitals to keep in their rooms. The girls hosted a fundraiser that collected over a thousand dollars and distributed over 500 craft kits to several hospitals. After the children received their kits, they joined London and Sedona on a Zoom call for an interactive arts and crafts session! They could then keep their friends and family pictures close while COVID-19 restrictions prevent them from having visitors.

For as lоg as she c remember, Abiga Zoe Lewis has loved to s g. At 10-years-old, she began to share her voice with her community and honed in on the craft of performing. At 13-years-old, she started working with professional top industry “hit” label writers and producers. At 14-years-old, she was hired to sing two new songs on an upcoming Disney Channel animated project (where she voices a recurring lead character) and she is now growing into a promising career in the entertainment industry!
You can see Abigail as Kaylee Ehrmantraut in the Emmy-award-winning series Better Call Saul and hear her as a recurring character in Disney’s animated 101 Dalmation Street and several other TV shows. The Orange County, California native can sing, act, and dance. Believe it or not, the fourteen-year-old triple threat even has some hidden talents! She loves make-up, fashion, writing and has had a black belt in taekwondo since she was 7 years old!
For Abigail, singing is an extension of who she is, as both a person and an artist. She reflected, “I feel centered, grounded when I both sing and write and love being able to touch and move people. I love that music brings us together and is the universal language. When we are intentionally authentic and feel we can positively contribute, we feel a sense of purpose which is good for the soul. Unquestioningly that has helped my self-esteem, and I feel empowered that I can positively make a difference in this industry and, more importantly, in our world.” Abigail shared some words of wisdom for readers interested in breaking into the entertainment industry. Based on her personal experience, “There have been no short-cuts. I do believe that luck comes to the prepared and the brave. That may sound a bit contrived, but that’s how it’s been for my life. I would recommend taking acting, music, and dance classes from different schools and professional instructors. Explore what fits you best in the entertainment field. Work on your craft and be prepared and follow your heart.”

Although it may seem easier said than done, Abigail urges our readers to shift their perspectives from negative to positive, especially when dealing with difficult situations. The reality of not getting a callback or landing a role may feel like rejection while it’s happening, but it can also be seen as a great accomplishment to just have been invited to the audition in the first place. She passes even more good vibes forward through her ambassadorship with B.A.R.E., an anti-bullying organization. Together, they’re working on an exciting new podcast that aims to give kids a voice and raise awareness to prevent and put an end to bullying. Another organization dear to Abigail’s heart is the Joyful Child, which educates, empowers, and fundraises to prevent the worst crimes against children and their families.
