Summer

Safety First

is finally here and the possibilities are endless. Well… maybe there are some places that are closed because of the virus, BUT there are still friendships to be made, s’mores to be devoured and adventures to be had. What do YOU need to know to be safe? Keep the points below in mind because safety is no accident.

Drink Water The summer days are hot and your body sweats to cool itself off. That water needs to be replaced. Have a refreshing drink of ice-cold water. It’s just what your body needs.

Wear Sunscreen Wear sunscreen and reapply it. We can never tell if we have a sunburn until after it happens. Don’t risk looking and feeling like a crab during your vacation.

Wear a Helmet Helmets save lives and prevent brain injury. Your life is worth wearing a helmet for.

Get Active for an Hour a Day Your body is built to move. There is plenty of time to watch tv, play video games and move your body everyday. If you are not using your muscles, you are losing your muscles.

Remember to Eat a Rainbow The more different-colored foods you eat, the better your body will feel and stronger your body will be.

Swim Safe Even the best swimmers have been rescued by lifeguards. Don’t put yourself in a dangerous situation. Swim with people, don’t go out into deep water and take lessons. Many Y’s and swim schools are now offering swimming lessons right at your backyard pool.

Check Your Emotions Do you feel stressed, worried, sad or upset? All of these are okay to feel. If it gets overwhelming, talk to someone you trust- like an adult.

Sleep Sleep is proven by scientists to help you grow, boost your smarts, and keep you healthy. When it comes to sleep, just do it.

Wear a Face Mask Have a face mask that covers your nose and mouth and bring it with you to wear. Face masks stop the spread of coronavirus germs.

Wash Your Hands with Soap You know the right way to do it-show your soap suds, sing the “Happy Birthday” song twice as you lather, rinse and dry.

Keep a “Door” Apart (longwise) From Others When you are with people, think of what it would be like to lay a door down between you and them. This would mean that the top of the door would be at your feet and the bottom of the door would be at their feet. This is standing 6 feet apart or “social distancing” to stop the spread of virus germs.

You are ready. Now, go have summertime fun!
