KidForce Magazine has teamed up with Launch Trampoline Park to recognize Kids Who Care in our local Rhode Island communities. We couldn’t be happier to announce that Jaelyn H., age 12 and Liam R., age 9 of East Greenwich will each receive a

Family Fun Pass to Launch valued at $99 for the generosity and compassion they have shown others! Jaelyn raised $3,670 for pediatric cancer research with her Cookies for Kids Cancer Bake Sale in honor of Hannah Serpa, age 4, who has been battling leukemia. Jaelyn rallied her friends and family to support her, and Taste Buds Kitchen in East Greenwich donated their space for some intense cookie baking in the days before the bake sale. Jaelyn would like to raise awareness of the acute need for more research funding for pediatric cancers and encourages everyone to check out Cookies for Kids Cancer. Thank you, Jaelyn, for being a Kid Who Cares! CookiesforKidsCancer.org | TasteBudsKitchen.com

Instead of gifts for his birthday this year at Mastery Martial Arts, Liam requested that his party guests bring donations for the food pantry at Our Lady of Mercy Parish in East Greenwich. He and his parents were a bit surprised that the food donations Liam received just about filled up his dad’s truck! Thank you, Liam, for being a Kid Who Cares and recognizing that sometimes the best gifts are the ones we give! No one should go hungry. To find a food pantry in your area, visit RIFoodBank.org. 6

What you will need (yields six servings): 6 Skewers | 2 Bananas | ¼ of a peeled carrot or shredded carrot pieces 3 Strawberries (you can also substitute apple) | 3 Green Grapes Handful of mini chocolate chips (we used “Enjoy Life” allergen-free) Cutting board | Knife *Safety note: When using a sharp knife be sure to get adult help and supervision! Step 1: Cut banana into 9 thick slices. Step 2: Cut carrot into tiny pieces for noses. Note: We found it easier to use shredded carrot pieces and cut them even smaller!) Step 3: Trim the stems off of strawberries and cut them in half length-wise.

Step 4: Cut grapes in half. (cut apples in wedges and cut in half in triangle shape) Step 5: Assemble snowmen! Take a skewer and add 3 banana slices followed by a strawberry half and a grape half. Gently press the mini chocolate chips for eyes and buttons, carrot for nose. Voila! Step 6: Serve immediately or freeze.

Lost Girl

Zoya drew “Lost Girl” as a school art project where she was asked to depict (show) an emotion. Zoya chose the emotion “despair” (deep sadness).

Do you ever use art, writing or music to show how you’re feeling? Sometimes emotions are joyful, and sometimes we can feel sad, angry, lonely or frustrated. There are no “bad” emotions. Exercising our creativity is a great skill we can use to help us move through tough emotions. 17

The North Pole Post

By: Denise Flagg Reviewed By: Jenna C., Age 9, East Greenwich

It is an amazing newsletter that is 12 pages long but only 11 pages are for reading . The twelfth page is all about the author and her workers. It is somewhat of a comedy and would be ideal for young children to get them excited for Christmas. The news articles are written by different elves in the North Pole that work at Santa's workshop! It has the weather forecast for the week, Snow every day! Also, it has ads for different stores even real estate, too! It has really cute pictures. There are comical and big words for younger kids to pronounce. (So that is what “the north pole post” is all about.) I highly recommend “The North Pole Post”! And the author, Denise Flagg, is a local Rhode Islander! www.DeniseFlagg.com If you are a Rhode Island kid age 5 or older and you’d like to submit a review for publication, please go to our website www.KidForceRI.com/submissions for more info. You could win a great prize and get published! Remember, a parent or guardian must give permission.
