Summer fun in the Forest

All our activities are child-centred, with a high adult-child ratio, providing just the right balance of freedom safety for a rewarding and stimulating time. Activities will be more adventurous for the older ones with den building, tool use and venturing further from base camp; and more nurturing for the little ones who will stay in our enclosed space with parents and sing songs and play in the mud kitchen. All sessions guarantee healthy doses of vitamin D, physical activity, immersion in nature and a sense of wonder.

Come and play outside this summer with Forest School @ Llys Nini!

Sir Teachalot was set up in 2007 to provide historical workshops in schools to engaged children in the learning process. A combination of drama and role play with hands-on activities motivates children to become engaged enquiring learners. The addition of humour, fascination and other emotions provide the hook that helps children understand and retain the concepts taught. Multiple classes can be entertained in a school hall for the day. Imagine their response as they enter the hall to witness weapons, artefacts and an ancient character straight out of history standing in front of them in real life! They may be greeted by a Roman Legionary looking for new recruits for the Legion, an Ancient Greek Hoplite looking for a new slave, or an officer from The Great War arriving to collect fresh troops for the front lines. Other workshop themes include: progressing from Stone Age to Iron Age, the wonders of Ancient Egypt, surviving Saxon and Viking invasions, Medieval knight and castles, life in Tudor times, pirates and life at sea, a day in a Victorian school, World War 2 and the Blitz, and the Space Race and astronaut training. To book a workshop for your school or to found out more please contact Sir Teachalot on Info@sirteachalot. co.uk 01342331935

Rainbow Fudge How to make:

You will need a small rectangular tuppaware container (17cm x 12cm) or equivalent. We used a plastic takeaway container for these which was perfect. Line the container with baking/greaseproof paper. In a microwave safe bowl add 80g of white chocolate and 3 tablespoons of the condensed milk. Microwave for 10-15 seconds, remove, add a few drops of red food colour and stir well. Don’t worry if the chocolate is still chunky when you take it out of the microwave, it should melt in whilst stirring.

Summer is officially here and with the holidays seeming to stretch on forever it’s always a good idea to have a few rainy day activities up your sleeve. If you’ve exhausted Netflix and cant take another afternoon of picking playdoh out of your carpet why not give this rainbow fudge a go. So much fun for little ones and a delicious treat too!

Ingredients: * Standard 397g tin sweetened Condensed Milk * 400g White Chocolate * Good quality food colour gel or paste in red, yellow, green, blue and purple

If you enjoyed this and fancy trying a few more kid-friendly recipes head over to our website baking-with-kids.com or find us on Instagram @baking_with_kids.

When the mixture is fully coloured, transfer into your lined (takeaway) container and smooth to cover the base. Freeze while you continue with the next layer. Repeat the above process with the yellow colour. Remove the container from the freezer and pour the yellow layer on top of the red and smooth with a knife to level the surface. We found 5 minutes of freezer time between layers was enough for the fudge to set and for us to make the next layer. If you’re super speedy with the breaking up of chocolate, microwaving, etc. you may find your freezer layers are still a bit wet. Give them another 5 minutes of freezer time and gently reheat the unpoured layer (5 seconds of micro time) to keep it fluid in the meantime. Continue until you have 5 different colour layers. Allow to set in the freezer for at least 1 hour. Once completely set, slice to serve. This fudge is fine at room temperature but best keep in the fridge if it’s a warm day

Signs That Show Your Child is Improving in School

1. Most important, your child is happier and more confident with their studies. 2. They complete their work within the class lesson time. 3. Your child can offer advice to others about the best way to tackle a question. 4. They volunteer answers during class discussions.

At Kip McGrath Education Centres, we often get reports and feedback from parents expressing how thrilled they are with the progress their child has made since attending tuition with us. How is this progress identified though? What makes a parent or child grateful for the intervention we have made with them? We decided it would be a good idea to put together a list of comments we've received from parents that help illustrate how relieved they are that progress has been made.

5. Can complete work independently with less need to seek reassurance of the correct answer. 6. They enjoy attending school. 7. More motivation to start and complete their homework. 8 They move up ability sets within their year group. 9. More positive feedback at parents' evenings and end of year reports. 10. Better test and exam results Obviously, test results are a clear

way to see the progress your child is making with their work, however, we haven't put it at the top of the list. We believe their emotional well being is just as important, if not more important. If your child has increased confidence and motivation then their academic progress will follow. If you have any concerns about your child's maths and English work , please contact Claire at Kip McGrath Education Centres in Gorseinon and Sketty. She will be able to arrange a free assessment for you and give honest feedback at the end. Please call 01792 299996 to discuss how you would like us to help.

Title: Stick & Fetch Investigate Written by Philip Ardagh and illustrated by Elissa Elwick Publisher: Walker Books Sally Stick and best friend, business partner and pet dog Fetch are keen to do some serious detecting work. As they stumble across strange cases to be solved so focused are they on finding out the mystery behind the apparently strange clues discovered - the half heard phone call, the missing photo, the dropped gardening glove and the party balloon that they fail to spot the obvious. Sally and Fetch take reading too much into something to literal extremes! Philip Ardagh’s deadpan humour depicts some delightful moments in his usual off beat way as the hapless pair continue to solve the cases, unaware of the chaos they have caused through the story even at the end, leaving it open for another book. The irony being that there were never was any cases to solve in the first place! It is just their enthusiasm and imaginations that have made it up. Sally and Fetch despite being hopelessly incompetent are charmingly innocent characters that children will fall in love with. Attractive illustrations complement the funny tale. Title: The Bookshop Girl Author: Sylvia Bishop Illustrator: Ashely King Publisher: Scholastic Sylvia Bishop is a new, exciting young author in the world of fiction with this, her second book, The Bookshop Girl. Property Jones was adopted by the Jones family when she was found in their bookshop, the White Hart as a small child. The Jones win a raffle to own the Montgomery Book emporium, and once they move in we are introduced to a whole host of odd characters.

It’s a quaint story interweaved with a fantasy element with some great turns of descriptive phrase. The theme, the winning of a book emporium by a poor family does have overtones of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but there is a quality and timeless feel to the writing that this author has managed to capture at a young age. Readers will feel an empathy and warmth towards Property and the predicament that she finds herself in. It’s an interesting juxtaposition - Property, a girl who lives in a bookshop and yet hides a big secret that she herself can’t read is very effective. Despite this setback, she is still shown as a clever girl who helps stop the villainous Elliot Pink hoodwink her family and will reassure any children who have learning difficulties like Dyslexia. The emporium itself is a magical place which contains a revolving stack of doors leading to such places as Desert Island books, Ocean Tales or Woodland stories. The story is mainly focused on the Jones predicament with Elliot and on Property’s personal quest so the readers only see glimpses of the rooms but enough to add magic and wonder to the story. Title: The Great Telephone Mix-up. Written by: Sally Nicholls and illustrated by Sheena Dempsey Publisher: Barrington Stoke Another new bright light in children’s fiction is the award winning Sally Nicholls who has written this charmingly quirky and unusual book The Great Telephone Mix Up published in the Little Gems series. The telephone network in the village gets damaged by a storm. Now everyone has the wrong number causing confusion as people find themselves connected with the wrong person. At first it causes inconvenience, but turns out for the best as the villagers rally round and start helping each other by passing on messages to others. Instead of relying on technology for communication, unlikely friendships blossom, and problems get solved when a human touch is added in. A thought provoking but light hearted and heartwarming tale about listening and talking in human interaction though communication and relationships. Attractive illustrations.

Summer Holiday Aches and Pains! It’s that time of year again when schools will shortly be breaking up for the summer. Watching TV or playing with game consoles is a great way to wind down after a hard year at school but doing it for too long in one sitting can cause back and neck aches so it’s also very important to keep physically active this summer too. According to the NHS, children over the age of five years should be physically active for at least one hour every day. Not only does this help their muscles and bones grow healthily, it also helps to maintain a healthy weight and build their confidence. So, if you are looking for some ideas about how to get your kids more active this summer, we’ve made a little list of suggestions for you to get you started: * Check your local council or newspapers for local days out or any special summer events that are coming up * Play a sport together, go for a bike ride, swimming, fishing, play some ball games * Get cooking – pick a recipe with the kids, go shopping for the ingredients and cook something together that you’ll all enjoy eating afterwards

* Build a fort together using some boxes or sofa cushions and some blankets * Go to the park or beach and have a picnic * A little more effort but a lot of fun - organise a treasure hunt around your home and garden with clues and treats for the children to find If you or your children do find yourself struggling with aches and pains Osteopathy has a proven record to get you back fighting fit so you can get back to your fun in the sun. Common injuries which we treat at this time of year are: Back Aches (Usually from Gardening) Neck aches (Computers) Repetitive strain injuries (Sporting Activities) Inflamed tendons (Growing) Torn and strained ligaments Sore and sprained joints.

If you do have any problems this summer you can make a booking by calling 07732059388 or visiting www.healthfirstosteopathy.co,uk.
