Rocking is when you find or buy rocks/pebbles, paint/ decorate them and then hide them in the community for others to find. Its basically a fun, free treasure hunt. Once found, the finder should take a picture of the rock and upload the picture to the group (noted on the back of the rock) for the hider to see. The finder can then chose whether they would like to keep that pebble or re-hide it for others to find. If you decide to keep the rock, we would encourage you to make one of your own of any design to replace it. It is lovely to have most of our rocks re-hidden in the Gowerton area, but sometimes these rocks like to travel far and wide which is also fine. Please remember that our rocks are put in the community as gifts to others, so be happy if they are kept or go on adventures away from Gowerton. Rocking is aimed at free fun for all ages and abilities and to help us take pride in our communities as well as being good exercise and great for social inclusion!
HowFindto orgetbuystarted: pebbles (please do not take pebbles

from beaches as you could get fined - they are natural sea defences and rocking is all about looking after our community & environment). Get creative - acrylic paint, paint pens, felt pens, permanant markers & crayons are all great for decorating rocks! All abilities can do this, its all about having a go and enjoying getting creative! You can seal your finished designs with varnish if you like, although its not necessary. If you've used felt pens or permanant markers, they should be left to dry for 24 hrs, coated with pva and then varnished after that has dried to help prevent your design from smudging/running. Paint can just be varnished on top using a tin or spray varnish. Paint pens dont need to be varnished but can be to help designs last longer. DONT FORGET to write 'Gowerton Rocks' on the back of your rock so people know where to post a pic once found...if a picture doesn't get posted, please don't be disheartened - someone may have loved your rock so much that they decided to keep it and thats ok as its all about sharing the fun and making someone smile You can upload a pic of your finished rocks to this page to show off your creations and help inspire others...and maybe leave a little clue as to where you'll be hiding it if you'd like. Please start your post with 'Hidden' or 'Found' to make posts easier to see when checking back. Go out and enjoy your community whilst finding a good hiding place for your rocks. Please consider picking up any litter you find on your adventure to help keep our community tidy Check back to this page regularly to see if your rock(s) has been found - again, please remember that some rocks are taken to hide in other communities or may be kept by the finder. Its great to think that our rocks may bring someone happiness and that some may travel far and wide! Remember its all about having fun so enjoy!!

Local News... Didi Rugby
We have been running Didi rugby across Swansea for 8 months now and we are so pleased to see more families come to our classes each week. Didi rugby is a class which aims to increase fundamental skills, confidence and sporting ability for children aged 18 months to 6 years old. Our coaches are all qualified and highly trained but most importantly they love coaching children new skills and being a part of something that will help them in the long run. We have classes in West Cross, Gorseinon, Gendros, St Helens and a new class in Sketty for children with disabilities. We are also running classes in Neath, Port Talbot and Llanelli so we can help even more children get active! As well as classes, we help run school sessions and we do fun birthday parties! We make it easy to give Didi rugby a try. You do not need to book onto any classes you can just turn up and try didi rugby for free. If you would like to find your local Didi rugby class give me a call on 07500060732 or like us on Facebook!

Stage 8: We bring out the best in every student Stage 8 Gowerton are franchises of The Stage 8 Group Limited. Our classes are designed to bring out the very best in every student and help grow confidence and social skills, whilst becoming fantastic performers. We focus on the three disciplines of musical theatre, acting, singing and dancing. We encourage our students to be involved in the whole creative process and not to simply ‘be told’ what to do, we find that they develop at a much faster pace to those who don’t get creative! All our staff are highly trained and qualified, DBS cleared and fully insured so you can rest easy knowing your children are in the best of hands. Some of our previous shows include Cinderella, The Little Mermaid JR and Alice In Wonderland. In October we will be performing a musical concert with songs and dances from the musicals. How Safe is your Child Online?
Internet safety advice from PC Paul from South Wales police With the internet being used by children daily it is important that we stay safe online. Using the internet can be very beneficial with a wealth of information available as well as educating us. It can be fun as long as we are SMART. We can do this in a number of ways. If you always stay SMART online then you will be safe. Be SAFE. Never give out personal information such as your address, email, phone number, photographs or passwords. This is your information so we must keep it safe.
MEETING someone who you
have met online is dangerous. Do you really know who this person is? If you do not know them then they are a stranger. You must tell a trusted adult if anyone asks to meet with you.
ACCEPTING messages from
people online that you do not know is also dangerous. People can send nasty messages online which may be hurtful. It is easy for someone to say nasty things online which they would not say in the real world. Is this person RELIABLE? People do lie about who they are online and may not be truthful about how old they are for instance. Only talk to people online who you know in the real world such as friends or family. Always TELL someone if you have received a nasty message online, are feeling sad, worried or scared or if you feel someone you know is being bullied online. You can always approach a trusted adult such as a parent or guardian, teacher, friend or your school community police officer.
PASSWORDS
When choosing a password make sure it is a strong one. Using passwords such as common words
15
| www.kidscenemagazine.co.uk
or names can be easily found out by others. Choose a password with a combination of upper case letters, numbers and symbols will ensure your password stays safe. Can you guess what this word is – ‘C4stL3’? By using the number ‘4’ instead of the letter ‘a’ and the number ‘3’ instead of the letter ‘e’ is a good way of combining numbers into a password which can be easily remembered. Also using random capital letters will make the password stronger. The word in the example is ‘Castle’! Well done. You should always tell a trusted adult the password you have chosen so they can help you in being SMART.
THINK ABOUT OTHERS You should also be considerate when online and think about others feelings. It may be best to save important conversations, like discussing worries you have had that day in the playground, for face to face meetings. Also be respectful and mindful of how your comments will make others feel. If we all did this then no-one would become upset. So think for 3 seconds before you say something online.
CYBER BULLYING
Cyberbullying is when someone hurts, threatens or frightens you regularly, by sending messages or images using the internet, mobile phones or other forms of digital communication. If you feel you or someone you know is being cyberbullied then you must be SMART and TELL a trusted adult. You can also speak to childline if you
feel more comfortable or report it via the CEOP webpage.
Are you being bullied?
If you are being bullied, or you are not ready to make a report to CEOP, you can talk to Childline anonymously online or on the phone - No worry is too big or too small. (insert childline logo) Parents/Guardians may wish to explore how you are using the internet and apps too! Get them involved and you could be the one showing them positive things about being SMART online!! PC Paul is part of a team of officers working in the Swansea area for the South Wales Police providing educational lessons, assemblies and support for young people in education. The All Wales School Liaison Core Programme is delivered throughout wales providing information and advice on topics such as internet safety to keep children safe both inside and outside of school. More information about this can be found at www.schoolbeat.org or speak with you schools officer the next time they visit your school!

Ghost and mummy cupcakes Looking for a ghoul-proof recipe to make with the little (skelet)’uns? These cupcakes are a scarily simple treat for a Halloween get together or a perfect way to keep the monsters busy on a rainy day.
How to make: You will need a 12 hole muffin tray lined with 12 cupcake cases. Preheat the oven to 180®C/ Gas Mark 4 In a large Boo-owl mix the butter and sugar together until creamy. In a separate jug or large mug, add the boiling water to the cocoa powder and mix to a paste. Add the cocoa paste to the butter and sugar mixture and beat in the eggs. Add the hair-raising flour and give a quick mix until it’s all combined. Divide the mixture between the cupcake cases and bake for 12-15 minutes or until raised and springy when touched. Allow to cool completely before decorating. Roll out the packet of icing to half centimetre thickness. Cut 6 circles larger than your cupcakes (apx 8-9 cm in diameter) and brush the underneath with a bit of water. Place a cherry on top of 6 cupcakes and cover with the icing circles. Draw 2 dots on the front to make your ghost eyes. Slice the remaining icing into thin strips and cover the remaining 6 cupcakes to create layers of ‘bandages’. Pop in the edible eyes for a peeping mummy effect.

Dr Louise Molluscum contagiosum
I have been asked to write about this common childhood skin condition which typically affects children aged 1-4. Although not serious, can look unsightly & cause concern to parents. It appears as small, warty lumps on the skin, called mollusca. These are pearly-white or pink-tinged & are not itchy or painful. Each lump is tiny, firm & round, measuring only 2-5mm across. A tiny ‘dent’ can be seen at the top. If you squeeze the lump, white cheese-like material comes out. Mollusca occur on various parts of the body but are rare on palms & soles. They occur in clusters but the number of lumps is usually less than 30. Molluscum contagiosum is caused by a skin virus which is spread by skin-to-skin contact with another person or e.g. by sharing towels, flannels or soft toys that have been used by someone who has molluscum contagiosum. Once one area of skin is affected the rash can spread to other areas of your skin. Most people are immune to this virus. Therefore, most people, after coming into contact with affected people, do not develop molluscum contagiosum. Exceptions are people who are immunocompromised ( immune systems not working properly due to e.g. steroid treatment, cancer treatment, etc). The mollusca on the skin usually develop 2-8 weeks after you become infected with the virus. Typically, each lump (molluscum) lasts a few weeks or months, crusts over and then goes. However, new ones tend to appear as old ones are going, as the virus spreads to other areas of skin. Therefore, crops of mollusca may appear to come and go for several months. It commonly takes 12-18 months before the last of the mollusca goes completely. Occasionally, the condition lasts longer than two years - sometimes as long as five years. The lump sometimes leaves a tiny ‘dent’ or mark behind but not a true scar. The most difficult issue for parents to comprehend, & for doctors to explain, is that it is usually best not to treat molluscum for the following reasons..Molluscum contagiosum is a self-limiting condition which means that it’ll usually clear on its own without treatment within 12-18 months. There is no need to keep children with molluscum off school, or away from swimming pools, etc in the meantime. The chance of passing on the virus this way is very small. However, sensible precautions should be taken to reduce the chance of passing molluscum to someone else. These measures include keep your own bath towel & flannel and not sharing it with anyone else.Try to keep
areas affected covered with clothing to avoid skin-to-skin contact with others. Do not scratch the lumps as this may increase the risk of spread to other sites on your body.
Treatment There is no really good evidence that any treatment makes a big difference to how long the mollusca last. Furthermore, there is no convincing evidence that any one treatment works best. It is important to emphasize that many of the treatments can be painful, such as liquid nitrogen, a wart-removal method some of you will have heard of. This method also potentially burns surrounding skin. All topical (‘topical’ meaning the treatment is applied to the skin lesions themselves) treatments potentially cause scarring of the skin, possibly leaving scars in place of the mollusca. Mollusca themselves rarely cause scarring if left to resolve on their own. Sometimes, treatment is warranted: if the lesions are particularly unsightly or troublesome, or are spreading very widely. Please discuss this with your GP. Mollusca can be frozen with liquid nitrogen ( cryotherapy). Creams & lotions may be used but there is no particular ‘best one’ and some may have no effect at all. It is usually a case of trial & error. Pulsed dye laser therapy (blasting the mollusca with special laser beams) is occasionally used by skin specialists. If the skin around the mollusca becomes itchy or infected, your GP can prescribe antibiotic creams for this. After an episode of molluscum contagiosum has cleared away, you will normally be immune to the virus and further episodes only occur rarely. If you develop a very large number of mollusca (hundreds) or the mollusca are larger than normal, it could be a marker of an underlying problem with your immune system. Please see your GP. www.kidscenemagazine.co.uk |

MUM TO
Mumpreneur
with Emma from Baby College 1). Tell us about your business.
Baby College Swansea is a unique one stop shop for baby and child development. What sets us apart is the fact that we give parents a chance to learn all about their gorgeous little one and the things that they might be experiencing developmentally though our weekly insight. Unlike the name suggests, Baby College is not just for babies. Our classes cater for children from 0-3 (Infants 0-9 months, Toddler 9-18months and Juniors 18-36months) Backed by 15 years of research, we cover a huge amount of aspects of Baby Development but deliver it through fun and interactive sessions.
A typical class incorporates:
Cognitive development; including: singing, signing, language activities and communication. Physical exercises (gentle): working through primitive reflexes, vital development of the balance system and maturing and refining motor skills. Sensory activities: a huge range of activities and themes designed to stimulate your baby’s senses and help with sensory learning and ultimately the world around them.
2). Where did you begin and what motivated you to start your own business?
I heard of Baby College when my first baby was 3 months old- I read about it and immediately signed up! I loved the balance of fun and learning for Catrin and learning and socialisation for me.- especially as a first time mum, the knowledge I gained really helped me to understand my little one and to feel like I was doing a good job (something people very rarely tell you as a mum!!) I was gutted when I had to return to work and there were no classes on my day off. When I had Eryn, I went straight back to Baby College and looked forward to, again, learning the science behind my growing girl. This is when one of the directors approached me to start my own franchise- I discussed it at length with my husband, we agreed that I loved it so much and that the girls had clearly benefitted from attending and that I could make a really good go of it. For my quality of family life and the ability to have a work-life balance, I haven't looked back.
3). How many children do you have- tell us a bit about your family.
I have 2 wonderful daughters- Catrin and Eryn. Catrin is almost 5 and will be starting in reception in September. She is nuts about unicorns, fairies and dresses at the moment and an avid gymnast and swimmer. Eryn is 2 and definitely the louder of the two- she loves animals and being outside. My poor, ever tolerant, husband is very much outnumbered in our house- he loves it!
4). How do you juggle childcare?
We’re really lucky now that we have moved back to Wales- we have both sets of grandparents nearby, both of whom cant wait to get their hands on the girls for some quality play time (I'm not sure who enjoys it more!). I don't think I fully appreciated how amazing and life-saving this would be for us- the girls have wonderful relationships with their grandparents and it means that I can run Baby College on those days without too much mummy guilt! Eryn goes to Gower Day Nursery a day and a half a week to ensure that she gets some time to play with other people who aren't me or her sister or grandparents.
5.) what do you do to relax?
Honestly- sleep!!! But seriously, I love to cook both with the girls (but not all of the cake mixture makes it to the oven) and by myself testing out a variety of ingredients and ideas. I really need to start introducing some physical activity in to my relaxation time but in all truth, I'm not super human and there just aren't enough hours in the day.
6). What's been your biggest challenge & how have you overcome it? I would say that, because
the lucky people of Swansea, Neath and Llanelli are the first in Wales to experience Baby College and all the benefits it can offer to both parent and baby, the biggest challenge I have had is to get the Baby College word ‘out there’. It is so much more than your average play group, sensory class or children’s movement based classit’s everything rolled in to one. A handy one-stop shop. #everyoneneedsbabycollegeintheirlives
7). What's the one piece of advice you would give up other mums wanting to start their own business? GO FOR IT. It’s hard (probably one of
the hardest things I’ve ever done) but the rewards are phenomenal- I have the work/life balance that suits wjat my girls and I need, I have a rewarding, fulfilling job that allows me to wake up in the morning and look forward to what I'm going to be doing, I can dictate my working day and, equally as importantly, I get to see mums and little ones learning and progressing together and making life-long friends

There are some fabulous books out on the market that combine facts with entertaining stories to motivate and encourage children such as Rebel Girls (Particular Books), Stories for Boys Who Dare To Be Different (Quercus) and the Little People, Big Dreams series (Lincoln Books). Here is a selection of books with an educational slant!
TITLE: Voices of the Future FOREWORD: Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO A collection of short stories written by young people from around the World. Suitable age 8+ PUBLISHER: Bloomsbury Education Voices of the Future is a beautiful collection of eight short stories written by young people who uniquely identify their hopes and aspirations for the future. With each author sharing their vision about how they feel that they individually and us collectively can use our influence to improve our world. Each story reaches out to inspire others, both young and older. The young people are from countries as diverse as Mexico, Canada and Papua New Guinea. Some want to protect our environment; another has experience of growing up with a sibling with the combined disabilities of Autism and Down’s syndrome. Some ideas are suggestions to be realized on a global scale, others are concerned about the immediate environments that we live in. Each story would make an excellent starting point for classwork projects on different cultures or how humanity can be inspired to facilitate change. The book aims to highlight the common bonds that children share across humanity and develop an understanding of the myriad of ways in which they experience them. There’s an easy to read section on Children’s Rights and also the project Voices of the Future itself. This project works for Children’s Rights and Sustainable Development works to empower children from around the globe. Prize winner’s such as human rights activist Kofi Annan and novelist Toni Morrison; leaders such as Martin Luther King to perhaps lesser known figures such as “the plant doctor” scientist George Washington, nurse Mary Seacole and Harriet Tubman who led hundreds of slaves to freedom as one of the most notorious conductors on the Underground Railroad. As well as traversing fields, the book also travels through time. Each mini biography providing a snapshot of each hero’s life, the challenges that shaped them, their achievements and how they found their place in history. Distinctive, vibrantly coloured illustrations are featured alongside each piece. Enjoy, feel empowered and be uplifted by these stories of unique, strong and courageous individuals which can serve as encouragement to anyone from any generations as well as the next generations to come. TITLE: Bee Boy – Clash of the Killer Queens. WRITTEN and ILLUSTRATED by Tony De Saulles. PUBLISHER: Oxford University Press Tony De Saulles comes from a creative nonfiction background having illustrated the highly successful Horrible Science series for ten years. In Bee Boy – Clash of the Killer Queens, he makes a great attempt to interweave real facts about bees and their importance in the world’s eco-system by presenting them within a quirky entertaining story about a young beekeeper Melvin Meadly. The hero, Melvin is considered to be a bit of a misfit and an outsider. He lives in a tower block, not the most convenient or usual place to keep a bee hive. In fact he has to keep the bees on the roof. Bee keeping is also considered a slightly odd hobby for a boy and Melvin gets his fair share of ridicule. He gets picked on by the school bully for it as well as being misunderstood by the community he lives in. In the book Melvin has to overcome two hurdles – one to educate people and his school about the value of bees and secondly the trails he endures when he transforms from nerdy Melvin into Bee Boy - half boy half bee! Once transformed he joins his buzzy friends in the hive, living as a bee and facing the challenges that bees endure. The painted graphic style in yellow, grey and black is an effective aid into balancing the science with fiction. It also aids the super hero feel as the oddball Melvin transforms into Bee Boy!

Looking After You.... WITH TARA HAMMETT
One of Swansea and South Wales's leading and most passionate Personal Trainers. Yesterday I had a few conversations with my clients about mindset, being more positive, being happier and not arguing with reality and we also talked about not expecting too much from ourselves.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON’T ACHIEVE THE RESULT? Had one of those moments when you’ve stepped on the scales, been totally disheartened.
WHAT’S THE POINT! PASS ME THE CHOCOLATE
Because you may put too much expectation on yourself you start to make it mean something. You didn’t lose what you wanted, so you think you’re a failure. You haven’t achieved what you wanted, so you feel disappointment. Others can do it, but you can’t, so you think you’re not good enough. Those feelings are all in your control and instead of thinking you’re not good enough, accept that you’re on a journey of change.
When you look back on your week…how has it gone? Should you have done better? I’ve thought a few should’s about myself. I should have eaten healthier I should have drunk more water I should be doing more with my business (This is the one that I think about the most)
Be grateful for where you’re at and how far you’ve come. Reflect on all the good things you have achieved and look forward as you continue to learn, grow and change. Change takes time and we may not get what we want immediately, but enjoy the journey, be proud of what you have achieved and be kind to yourself. This weekend reflect on all those good things you’ve done, what you’ve achieved and what you still want to work towards. Be prepared, be mindful and do the best you can.
But right now, everything is what it is and as the week has gone on, I’ve done my best at the time and sometimes things don’t always go to plan.
DON’T EXPECT TOO MUCH……YOU ARE ENOUGH
The thing is we can vey easily expect too much. We should have lost more weight by now We should be fitter We should feel more confident We should fit into those skinny jeans
1) PLAN BETTER
ARE YOU EXPECTING A BIT TOO MUCH? If you want to lose weight, do better in your business or just be the best version of you, all you can do is be prepared, do what you can and accept what is.
So here's 5 of my tips to help you stay on track, step away from the yo-yo, cheat your way through it mindset and be consistent with your choices. It all starts when you go food shopping. You put the right food into your cupboards, you plan your meals, you prep them, you get them in the fridge or frozen so you can grab them easier, you practice cooking too much, so there's always some left over for easy access and you stay stronger with your choices.

didi rugby Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot and Llanelli
Developing fundamental skills, abilities and confidence with a rugby influence
As the saying goes....fail to plan, plan to fail. So plan what you're going to do...do what you say you will, practice it consistently and soon it will become a habit and much easier to do.
2) EAT BIGGER MEALS
Eating plenty of the right food which keeps you fuller and with plenty of energy will help keep your hormones in check, help you lose those pounds and still allow you to have the odd indulgence without having to skip a meal. Always ensure you have protein at your meal. This will help you feel fuller and satisfied and alongside plenty of veggies you can still have big meals without over eating the calories. When you eat bigger meals that you know are full of awesomeness, you wont ever need to scrimp on food feeling hungry, lethargic and ready to cave in a moment.
3) ONLY WORKOUT A FEW TIMES A WEEK
Don't stress about getting 5-7 workouts in a week. For many this would be unrealistic...then those feelings of not being good enough and being a failure creep in because you didn't do what you thought you should do. Instead, plan to do 2-3 good workouts a week. Make them HIIT style workouts using bodyweight, weights and pushing hard so you can get your toning and cardio in one hit. Saving time and effort and allowing you to relax a few days a week...stress free.
4) CHOCOLATE!!
Ok...so you love it like me?? Always have some to hand. Now I don't mean your usual bars or share bags that you don't share and keep to yourself. I mean the real stuff. This is certainly one way of feeling like you're cheating the 'diet'. Keeping 100% organic cocoa in your cupboards(I use green & blacks - you can pick it up in many supermarkets) You can add it at so many mealtimes & snacks. • • •
Add a teaspoon to your protein oats in the morning... Mmmm Chocolatey Sneak a spoonful into your yoghurt at lunchtime... Mmmmm Chocolatey or pour some hot water over a teaspoon full in the evening for a comforting hot chocolate drink
MMMMMMM chocolatey This is also great for helping to curb cravings and keep you focused on our healthy habit changing.
5) MAKE YOURSELF A PRIORITY YOU MUST COME FIRST!
I'm repeating myself now but Fit-Your-Own-Oxygen-Mask-First. This may seem difficult when you've
got a partner, children, boss, family, dogs, cats, neighbours and plants to look after, but when you feel better, stronger, happier & healthier....you are a much better version of you. So to make sure you stick to what you're doing, you need to take time out just for you. It's good to be selfish! Good selfish!! When you start doing this - GUILT FREE - you'll soon become that happier person living the healthier lifestyle you want so much. Then, you'll be more consistent in working towards your goals and sticking to your plan. Where and when do you start all this then?
N OW ! The more you carry on living the yo-yo, short term, quick fix lifestyle....the longer it goes on for and the longer it is until you get to your goals.

Back to school with Health First Osteopathy With thousands of Children in Swansea going back to school, the hot topic should be about back packs and how will they carry their bag this school year, but the right – or wrong – backpack can have a much longer effect on your child’s health. Here at Health First Osteopathy we strongly support the need of a backpack, as carrying a backpack and sitting at desks all day can cause some stiffness in the back, neck and shoulders. An ill-fitting or incorrectly sized back pack may increase the risk of poor posture or possible injury. It is important to recognise the need to protect a schoolaged body, particularly during adolescence. Going into the first-term of the 2018 school year, here are some top tips to make sure your child is going back with the right backpack. WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A BACKPACK There are so many different styles of school bags available to purchase, that it can become difficult to choose the right one. Below are features that you should look for when purchasing a new bag: * Make sure the backpack is the right size – it should be no wider than the child’s chest and no higher than 3 cm above their shoulders – they should be able to look up to the ceiling without their head hitting the bag. * A moulded frame which conforms to your child’s back when adjusted correctly. * Two wide, adjustable shoulder straps with padding for extra comfort – Wearing a bag with only one shoulder strap curves the spine unnaturally, putting stress on the whole body. * Separate compartments that allow packing ease. * One made from canvas or another light-weight material. HOW TO WEAR A BACKPACK * Ideally, a school bag should weigh less than 10 per cent of the child’s body weight. For instance, a child weighing 40kg should carry 2-3kg, and 4kg at the very most. * Both shoulder straps should always be used to distribute the weight evenly on the child’s back. Waist straps also help. * Don’t wear the backpack below the small of the back. The shoulder straps should be adjusted so that the bottom of the bag sits around the child’s waist – trace a line from their belly button around to their back, the bottom of the bag should sit around there. * The bag should not hang out from the shoulders – it should contour to your child’s back – and should not swing from side to side when your child is moving around.

SETTING STRONG BACKPACK HABITS FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILD To ensure your child does wear the bag correctly when you aren’t there, explain to them that it can cause serious injury to their spine, shoulders, and neck if they don’t wear it right. It is only the best school bag if it’s used the right way. Regularly check with them to see if the bag is comfortable, or if they are in any kind of pain. By setting strong habits for you and your child, it will lessen the impact to cause significant injury to their spine, shoulders, and nick if they don’t wear it right. The most important thing parents can do once their child is home, is to encourage them to take their shoes off and play outside, without technology for 30 minutes. 30 minutes of varied movement can unwind the body from the rigid positions a child is expected to hold throughout the day. Take the time with your child to show them how to wear their backpack correctly, if unsure speak to us at Health First Osteopathy. Osteopaths can treat patients with back and neck pain, sports injuries, headaches, postural problems, sciatica symptoms, knee and heel pain, shin splints, arthritis and occupational injuries. If your child does complain of neck or shoulder pain, it is a good idea to take your child to an Osteopath for an assessment. The school bag may not be the only potential source of discomfort.
