from the editor " Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit — you choose."1 Proverbs 18:21 MSG
Atricia B. wrote a great poem about the power of words. Jamie T. drew a cute comic strip, to illustrate Jodi Picoult's quote.
This edition is about the power of words. We sometimes don't fully know how powerful our words are. One of the most encouraging words I have received was from my dad and they stick with me to this day.
Also thanks to Caleb S. for drawing a great illustration and Annabelle L. for doing the cool cover artwork.
Anthony Ianni, who is an anti bullying advocate and the first-known athlete with autism to play Division 1 college basketball, shares about how his dad's words have helped him succeed.
Last but not least, don't miss Desi Trisnawati korean egg bread recipe and "Gifts of words" gift guide. We hope that we can inspire you to speak words that will bring life and encouragement to those around you. Happy reading!
We are also honoured to feature Dr. Michelle Watson, who writes about how words can hurt more than sticks and stones. In this edition, we also have some kids/youth contributors.

what my dad taught me by: anthony ianni

When I was a young student in high school, my Dad taught me this quote: “THE HARDER YOU WORK, THE MORE YOU’LL EARN!” Whenever I had dreams or goals I wanted to accomplish in my life, I used this quote and still use it to this day as my life motto. When I was 4 years old, I was diagnosed with Autism and was never given a chance to be successful in my life. When I got into high school and I knew what my dreams and goals were, I told my Mom and Dad about them, and that’s when my Dad told me his quote. Because of this quote I went on to graduate high school, graduate from college and also achieved my dream of playing basketball for Coach Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans. Even to this day, this quote/advice has helped me become one of the top Anti-Bullying speakers in the state of Michigan and a role model for those in the autism community. For those who are reading this, if you have dreams and goals in life, go out and follow those dreams and work hard every day in life.
My da d an d m e
Whether it’s in school, sports, the school play, music, etc. if you work hard every day, you’re going to see great result because of your efforts to want to achieve greatness. Remember, the harder you work… the more you earn!

the power of words words: atricia B. | photo: Michael und Maartje
Words can bring you up Words can be the greatest motivation Words can come in through one ear and out the other Words can help you achieve your goals and accomplish things you’ve never done before
Words can come from books, music, social media, friends, enemies, parents, teachers ... Even that random video in a different language
18
... or words can bring you down ... or it can tear your heart apart ... or linger in your mind for days ... Or months ... Or years ... or they can bully you till you can’t stand it any more
But even though you may say it, read it or hear it Remember that those are just words; you can decide if they may be true or false And when the time comes for you to speak up, keep in mind that words can impact others too
