POETRY Depression Depression is a monster That destroys both heart and soul. It tortures without mercy And consumes its victim whole.

It's hidden in those bullies Who torture and demean, Who use their words like weapons To destroy all self-esteem.

It cripples and disables, Making life too hard to cope. It can make each day a nightmare And leave a person without hope.

It's fueled by those substances, That are used to help escape. From that endless pain depression brings And that unbearable heartache.

Some people feel this sadness From the time that they are young, And believe that they are different And can't be loved by anyone.

It can cause someone to just give up, To lose all strength to fight. It can annihilate one's very soul And make them take their life.

It's reinforced by parents Too depressed themselves to care Yes, Depression is a vulture For that child they're supposed to love, That will make anyone its prey. But instead forget is there. There is no one who deserves it, And there is no one to blame. Depression can be nurtured Through violence and neglect We don't need to make a judgment, And fists used only to degrade But we need to be aware And words used to reject. That those who suffer through this pain Just need the world to care.

How To Make Money - A Guide For Teens Babysitting One thing you can do, if you love children, is babysitting. Just think of it as if you’re hanging out with your little brother or sister, except you get paid for it.

Mowing the lawn You can even stay in your own home and ask your parents if you can do more chores for a fee.

Taking care of pets You can also take care of someone’s pet, wash their cars, or any other small jobs that full-time working people just don’t have enough time to do.

Taking surveys online Also, you can do online surveys for reliable sites such as Swagbucks and get cash back at over 1500 retailers including Starbucks, Target, and Amazon. I love the fact that you can watch videos and earn free gift cards. It’s something you can do from the comfort of your home.

Selling pictures you’ve taken Other online jobs you can look at include selling stock photos. If you’ve got a knack at taking photos and you also know how to set up a shot, you can totally earn some extra bucks by selling your photos with companies like

Sell Online You can also sell some of your quality used goods on eBay, Amazon, Etsy, and other online retail stores. Make sure to take good photos of what you’re selling and ensure it’s in proper condition.

Feature Story Why Marijuana Use in Teens Is Harmful Tobacco use in teenagers and young adults can cause both immediate and long-term harm. Though some parents may emphasize the long-term impact of smoking on their teen’s health — as they should — teenagers and young adults may be more persuaded by the immediate and early negative effects. These include: Reduced physical fitness. Smoking reduces lung function and lung growth. It also causes shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing and increased phlegm. Early heart disease. Smoking can damage the heart and blood vessels which can increase the risk for atherosclerosis and heart disease. Poor oral health. Smokers may suffer from yellow teeth, bad breath and other mouth problems. Poor skin. Smoking is associated with skin wrinkling and early skin damage. Adolescent tobacco use is concerning because adolescents are still growing and their brains are still developing. Signals in the brain move more slowly than in a mature brain. The decision-making part of the teenage brain that is responsible for impulse control and planning is not fully developed, so teens may make more impulsive decisions In addition, a recent research study suggested that teenagers may be more vulnerable to nicotine addiction than adults. This study showed that adolescent rats were more prone to developing addiction than adult rats, and this increased susceptibility may be linked to differences in activity between the adolescent brain and the adult brain.
