The E-Waste Project on its
5th Year 1
The E-Waste Project on its fifth year had reached to nationwide recognition and was awarded as one of the finalists in TAYO. The E-Waste project, also known as TEP, was established and promoted by UP Circuit from the University of the Philippines since 2012. The project’s goal is to raise and spread awareness on proper management and disposal of Electronic Wastes by not throwing them away and not giving them to junk shops but giving them to accredited E-Wastes Managers with the help of different student organizations inside and outside of the University. Electronic Wastes are harmful to the environment and even to people because of the chemicals that the wastes contain when improperly disposed or managed. Without the proper awareness regarding the waste’s management and disposal, these effects would worsen. Since its year of establishment, the project had spread to different organizations inside the campus and contributed to help spread awareness.

Then it reached to the student organizations from different schools and colleges to follow proper E-Waste disposal and management. Then it reached also to different companies that aren’t aware of proper E-Waste management and disposal. Because of this project, the awareness of proper E-Waste Management and Disposal has spread further and further for a better place to live in. Now on the project’s fifth year, the project had not only reached different schools, colleges, and universities to promote awareness,
but it had also reached a nationwide recognition in which it was featured on live television, namely in CNN Philippines. The project’s head, Ms. Blessie Delos Reyes was interviewed about what the project was and how to properly manage and dispose the E-wastes to help the environment. With this interview broadcasted live on national television, more people were aware on how to properly manage and dispose the E-Wastes. And with this nationwide recognition, the campaign was successful on its fifth year.

In addition to that, the project was awarded as one of the finalists of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations Awards or TAYO Awards. The Ten Accomplished Youth Organization Awards is the country’s award for Youth Organizations that contribute to the country with their projects that helped the environment and society. TAYO awarded differentyouth organizations
for 14 years. Last 2017, one of the TAYO Awards finalist was UP Circuit’s TEP because of its contribution towards a better and safer environment. With all these events on TEP’s 5th year, the world would be one step closer to a better and safer environment with the help of the national recognition and the TAYO award of the project.

OLYMPICKTS JJ GAMES 2017
Sobrang fun! Nakakaencourage sa participants at dami kong natutunan! Sana madami pang ganitong events kahit di JJ at madami pang sumali! Kaye-Anne Riman (2011), Alumni

Since 2015, UP Circuit has been holding an annual midyear event called the ‘JJ Games’ that is open to all members and alumni. The ‘JJ Games’ is a series of games held on several days throughout the midyear that are played in teams to encourage teamwork. This event’s purpose is to promote and maintain camaraderie among its members considering that the midyear term is, in its way, a bumper between the regular semesters and relatively more active responsibilities. It is also a way for them to just have fun with a little friendly competition. This year, UP Circuit held the ‘OlympiCKTs: JJ Games 2017’. Most days, the games took place at the Sunken Garden where there is room for the members to play the lined-up games Catch the Dragon’s Tail, Agawan Base, Calamansi on Spoon Race, Curtain Calleng’g, and Guesseng’g. When these were the games scheduled for the day, everyone prayed for no rain and arrived at the venue dressed and ready to win. On other days, the games took place at the Circuit Tambayan when the games in store for the day required less space and physical movement. The games on these days were Stack the Cups, Pa-Sense-Yahan, and Pusoy Dos. During the midyear term, rain is prevalent and often occurs during the afternoon which was when the games were scheduled to take place. This was the main challenge of the organizers of the event. Despite this, the games were executed to the best of their ability. To cope with the rain, sometimes the games were rescheduled for the following day and the members were still persistent in attending. An instance that exemplifies the members’ persistence and the organizers’ effectiveness was the Uno Tournament held within the shelter of Vinzons Hall in lieu of
6
the scheduled Sack Race Relay that didn’t push through due to unfavorable playing field conditions. Also, there was a special game day where the IndaCKTors held a dance workshop for those interested. The event was an adequate form of stress and/ or boredom relief for the members who attended. It also served as a physical outlet and entertainment. The competition to acquire points fueled the members’ drive to attend and encouraged participants. The goal of getting members together in the midst of the bumper was still achieved. The ‘JJ Games’ is an ongoing annual tradition. It contributes to the internal harmony of the organization’s members that lasts even after their stay in UP. Whether someone plays or just attends and watches, the event makes everyone want to put in another piece of heart or another ounce of dedication to the org. This year’s games were responsible for first conversations, deeper connections, unexpected fondness, and many other endearing milestones. The games are more than just Engg Week practice, they are a kickstarter for a prosperous year for UP Circuit.

s n u t s t i u c r i C P 7 U 1 0 2 k e e W g ’ Eng Engineering Week, or simply “Eng’g Week”, is an annual event competition among student organizations of the College of Engineering held by the Engineering Student Council. Students representing their own organizations were filled with zeal and enthusiasm as they competed against each other in more than 50 day events and 9 night events. This year’s Eng’g Week, entitled Hinugyaw meaning jubilation, was held last February 22 to March 4. This year, Wea Alpecho was UP Circuit’s Eng’g Week Head. The
College of Engineering was truly filled with excitement and anticipation when they looked forward to what this year’s ESC has in store. Smokers Night: Siklabo kicked off Engineering Week with a blast with entertaining performances from participating orgs. Laughter filled the Film Institute as different orgs went out the stage and performed. UP Circuit bagged Third Place in Smokers Night, lead by Brandon Cipriano in a lively but socially relevant performance about
8
extrajudicial killings. Despite gaining only Third Place, there was no doubt the members of Smokers Night gained something better: New friends and a family. Jammeng’g: Paraluman rocked the stage with our very own Seth Sanchez leading band Grounded in performing Profanities and Rock Baby Rock. The crowd grew wild with fun and energy jumping and raising their hands to the jam. Even though Grounded failed to secure a place in the rankings, it was unequivocally
true that the audience had a great time. Awitan: The Music of the Night, headed by Francis Loyola and Jhaezminne Gayo, gave the people goosebumps as songs filled the air with the eargasmic performance from UP Circuit’s Circuit Chorus singing Think of Me and I See The Light reaching Top 3 in the Pre-judging results. Albeit unsuccessful to defend their
spot in the Pre-judging, there was no denying the beauty of their voices struck a chord in their souls. Indakan: Karayapan shook the house as groups swayed to the rhythm and danced to the beat. UP Circuit’s IndaCKTors, headed by Yanna Palo, pushed through with their hair-raising Pahiyas
Festival themed performance. All the exhaustion, sweat, and pain were immediately faded into celebration of joy and happiness as the judges announced UP Circuit as this year’s champions, mightily securing a back-to-back win. Various orgs heated up the crowd as they displayed

eye-catching, jaw-dropping sensual performances. Ara Tamayo lead UP Circuit’s Jophiel Marca and Allysa Atienza for the pair category, and Ysabela Coronel, Jhoanna Tabilisma, and Stephen Destura for the group category in their steamy performance of flora and fauna. UP Circuit managed to place in Top AVPs for both pair and group but fell short in gaining a spot in the Top 3 performances. AJ Argel was Bb. Circuit for this year’s Magayon: Miss Engineering with mommies Marga Loberiano and Bea Dapula. He went out the stage with confidence and poise, working his sexiness in front of the cheering crowd ultimately obtaining Miss Congeniality for this year’s pageant. Though not being able to reach the
last three contestants, he unquestionably made UP Circuit proud. As Kalipay ended this year’s Engineering Week with a bang as the afterparty was celebrated by students bonded by camaraderie and friendship. UP Circuit managed to reach 1st place on the overall organization rankings by the start of Eng’g Week, then 3rd place although eventually falling down to 8th place. Circuit was hopeful in ending IE Club’s streak but was overpowered by other orgs at the end of Eng’g Week. Nevertheless, Circuit was a force to be reckoned, distressing various orgs sending them into countless emergency General Assemblies on how
10
to pacify Circuit’s powerful start. Despite being one of the youngest orgs participating in Eng’g Week, Circuit proved that with unity and cooperation, an organization can do anything. Next year’s Engineering Week will be headed by Janet Martin and Michael Osorio coming back with a newfound motivation and a vengeance to finally claim the top spot among Engineering Organizations.
