THIS SITE IS LOCATED IN COCONUT GROVE, ON THE WATERFRONT OF BISCAYNE BAY. WHILE IT HAS A PRIME LOCATION, IT HAS BEEN UNDERUTILIZED AND UNDER DEVELOPED. FROM RESEARCHING AND ANALYZING THE TOPICS OF EQUITY, ECONOMY, AND HISTORY, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT CREATING A PUBLIC GATHERING SPACE WITH WATER ACCESS WOULD BE BENEFICIAL TO THE COMMUNITY. THERE IS A CLEAR HISTORY OF DIVIDED DISTRICTS WITHIN THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY, AND A LACK OF PUBLIC SPACES. BY CREATING A SPACE WITH AREAS FOR ELASTIC PROGRAMMING, IT ALLOWS FOR THE PUBLIC TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE SITE AND FILL IN THE GAPS OF PUBLIC SPACES THEY ARE LACKING.
THIS STRUCTURE PLAYS WITH THE DUALITY OF TRANSITION THROUGH TRANSPARENCY. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY ANCHORING INTO THE SITE AND DIVIDING ALONG A DATUM LINE CARVING OUT OPPOSING SPACES, ONE CARVES DOWN INTO THE SITE WHILE ANOTHER ASCENDS. THE DUALITY OF PATH TAKES THE OCCUPANT THROUGH VARIED EXPERIENCES. A VISUAL OVERLAP IS CREATED BY ACTIVATING AND OCCUPYING ALL SURFACES THROUGH AN OPERABLE ROOF PLANE THAT RESPONDS TO THE STRUCTURE. THE PROGRAM ACTS AS PATHS TO BRING THE OCCUPANT TO THE WATER AND LINK THEM TO THE SPACE. OVERALL, THIS PROJECT BRINGS OCCUPANTS TOGETHER, ALLOWING FOR MOMENTS OF TRANSITION, WHILE ALLOWING THEM TO CREATE THEIR OWN UNIQUE EXPERIENCES.

The city of Amsterdam has an intricate network of streets and canals. The fabric of the city is brought together through levels of circulation. These include; vehicular, metro, tram, bus, cycling, ferries, and walking. Borneo-Sporenburg was constructed in a prime location that allows access to nearly every form of public circulation. These allow for a robust experience of the area. Through researching levels of vehicular circulation, you are able to see how Amsterdam functions at varying levels and has extensive access. These levels show how dense the city is and how many tertiary zones exist allowed for a quieter experience. Additionally, the the typology of Amsterdam allows residents to experience a very local existance with every necessity centrally located, while still having complete access to the surrounding city.

DOMESTICITY+ SERVES AS FACULTY HOUSING FOR THE ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, SPECIFICALLY RESEARCH FACULTY IN THE KAPLAN INSTITUTE. THE PROJECT FOCUSES ON WORK/LIFE BALANCE WITH SUITES DESIGNED FOR THE FACULTY AND THEIR FAMILY. ADDITIONALLY, IT EMPHASIZES EQUITY BY PROVIDING THE COMMUNITY WITH A PRESCHOOL, POCKET PARK, AND SUBSIDIZED HOUSING.
OUR SITE HAS A PRIME LOCATION WITHIN THE IIT CAMPUS IN CHICAGO, SURROUNDED BY STUDENT HOUSING, AND ACADEMIC BUILDINGS. THE FORM WAS DERIVED FROM RAIL LINES AT THE CITY LEVEL INFORMING THE GEOMETRY AND STEPPED FACADE. THE DESIGN CREATES SPACES OF OVERLAP THAT BRING PEDESTRIANS INTO THE SITE AND ALLOW THEM TO GATHER. THE GROUND FLOOR HOSTS A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS THAT BENEFIT AND CONNECT THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. THEY ACT AS NODES ALONG THE EDGE THAT DRAW THE OCCUPANT IN. THESE PUBLIC PROGRAMS INCLUDE A CONVENIENCE STORE, MULTISPORT COURT, AUDITORIUM, PRESCHOOL, CAFE, AND PARK.
THE MASSING AND UNITS HELP INFORM EACH OTHER, THE NEGATIVE SPACE ALLOWS FOR THE CREATION OF DRY LABS THROUGH STEPPING. UNITS FOCUS ON DAYLIGHTING AND EXTERIOR SPACE, WHILE GIVING OCCUPANTS A SENSE OF PLACE. BY ALLOWING THE FACADE AND PROGRAM TO INFORM EACH OTHER AREAS OF OVERLAP THROUGH SLIPPAGE OCCUR, ACTIVATING THE SITE.

CORAL GABLES CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH WAS COMISSIONED BY GEORGE MERRICK, DESIGNED KIEHNEL & ELLIOTT, AND COMPLETED IN 1925. LOCATED ACROSS FROM THE BILTMORE HOTEL, IT WAS THE FIRST PUBLIC BUILDING IN CORAL GABLES. IT WAS THE FIRST CHURCH IN FLORIDA TO BE RECOGNIZED ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES IN 1978. I AIDED IN ANALYSIS AND DOCUMENTATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE HISTORICAL AMERICAN BUILDING SURVEY (HABS) STANDARDS SET FORTH BY THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE. MY CONCENTRATION WAS ON PLAN DOCUMENTATION TO NATIONAL STANDARDS. I MANAGED CLASS COLLABROATION IN ORDER TO ORGANIZE CLASS ASSETS AND INDIVIDUAL DETAIL WORK INTO COHESIVE DRAWINGS.

URBAN SERENITY FOCUSES ON NATURAL PRINCIPLES WITH AN EMPHASIS ON ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, AND PRIORITIZES THE WELLBEING OF ITS USERS. BY CREATING A VERTICAL COMMUNITY WITH SPACES THAT ENCOURAGE CONNECTION, THE COMMUNITY OF TIDE POINT WOULD BE STRENGTHENED.
A REDEFINED URBAN FABRIC CREATES AN ENVIRONMENT THAT EXEMPLIFIES SUSTAINABLE SYSTEMS WHILE IMPROVING THE LOCAL ECONOMY. EQUAL ACCESS TO RESOURCES AND PRIORITIZATION OF USERS EXPERIENCE THROUGH HOLISTIC DESIGN SHOWCASE THE BENEFITS OF SUSTAINABLE LIVING. IT BRINGS TOGETHER THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY AND WATERFRONT THROUGH RECREATIONAL INTERACTION AND GREEN- SPACE. REVITALIZING THE AREA BY PROVIDING EQUAL ACCESS TO RESOURCES NOT TYPICALLY FOUND. THESE INCLUDE LIBRARIES, SPIRITUAL AND HEALTHCARE SERVICES SPACES. THESE SERVICES WOULD ALLOW THE COMMUNITY OF TIDE POINT TO THRIVE.

DEVELOPING FLUENCY IN THE MEANS AND METHODS OF DIGITAL MODELING AS WELL AS A VARIETY OF REPRESENTATION TECHNIQUES IN COMMUNICATING ARCHITECTURAL IDEAS. DIGITAL MODELING WILL BE APPROACHED AS AN INTEGRAL TECHNIQUE FOR EXPLORING AND DETERMINING DESIGN INTENT AND DIRECTION. FOCUS ON PRECISION AND DETAIL MODELING. THIS PROJECT FOCUSED ON TAKING A MODEL PRECEDENT AND BUILDING IT AS A 3D MODEL. FROM THERE SHAPES WERE EXTRACTED FROM THE PAVILION AND TURNED INTO COMPONENTS. THE FINAL SOLID VOID COMPONENT WAS CHOSEN, AND ROTATED TO APPEAR DYNAMIC TO CONTRAST THE STATIC DESIGN OF THE PRECEDENT. THE INTENSIVE PROPERTY CHOSEN WAS A PATTERN THAT RESEMBLED MARBLING FROM THE INTERIOR OF A GEODE. FROM THERE, I USED A GLASS MATERIAL WHICH HAD HIGH RETRACTION TO MIMIC THE INTENSIVE PROPERTY OF THE PATTERN.
Riverside Park Pavilion, located in Kunshan, China was designed by Vector Architects, in 2013. From this project, the idea of screening was extracted. Using few the screening elements, they were rotated, mirrored and joined. Based on the new components, they were looked at in another lens. They were turned from framer to planar, and used the same operations further the concepts. Finally, inverting the screening was explored. This produced surface and solid combinations, these investigations allowed for new read the original component. description: components #.2 student Tucker, Kiera Pratt Institute Undergraduate School of Architecture Pratt Arch 112 Representation 3 Fall 2019 instructor: Danielle Willems description: vector architects #.2 Pratt Arch 112 Representation Fall 2019 instructor: Danielle Willems Riverside Park Pavilion, located Kunshan, China was designed by Vector Architects, 2013. The program consisted of refreshment station, public toilet and leisure pavilion, to serve the community. This project was supposed to act as bridge between either side the site. One side consisting busy street, and the other park. The spaces wer connected through the creation an artifical landscape, sunke garden that forced circulation. These guided pathways constituted distinctive spacial sequences that also blended into the surrounding landscape. The volume the building itsel was distributed and fragmented through the site allowing for areas intermixing zones that allow for diverse activities thorughout the site. description: section #.3 vector architects student Tucker, Kiera Pratt Institute Undergraduate School Architecture board Riverside Park Pavilion, located Kunshan, China was designed by Vector Architects, 2013. THIS PROJECT WAS SITED ON THE HISTORIC VAN CORTLANDT HOUSE MUSEUM IN THE BRONX, IT IS KNOWN FOR ITS PROMINENT EARLY GEORGIAN ARCHITECTURE. ALIGNMENT AXISES WERE USED TO REDEFINE THE COURTYARD THE BUILDING. IT FOLLOWS THE MAIN AXIS OF THE BUILDING, WHILE THE ARTIFICIAL GROUND THAT ALSO ACTS AS A ROOF ALIGNS WITH BROADWAY RELATING TO THE GREATER CONTEXT OF THE CITY. ALL OF THE DATUM LINES WERE PULLED FROM THE ORIGINAL BUILDING AND ACTED AS THE FORMAL ALIGNMENTS THAT ALLOWED FOR FRACTURE TO OCCUR.
THE BUILDING ACTS AS A NODE OR PLACE OF GATHERING. IT ALSO ACTS AS AN EDGE CONDITION THAT BEGINS TO FILTER THE DISTRICT OF THE MUSEUM AND FIELD, BRINGING TOGETHER THE HISTORIC ORIGINAL ENTRANCE AND THE MORE MODERN WALKING PATHS. IT ALLOWS PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT PLACES TO CONGREGATE IN SHARED SPACE. FRACTURING BEGINS TO DIVIDE THE SPACES, WHILE BRINGING THEM TOGETHER IN NEW WAYS. THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED USING SOLID VOID RELATIONSHIPS THROUGHOUT.
