It gives me immense pleasure to welcome our fellow courtiers, community partners, friends and family to Convocation XXIII ~ An Ivy League Celebration of Nobility. Many thanks to the Class of 2017 volunteers, businesses and the year’s figureheads, Emperor XXII Kieron A. Keegan & Empress XXII Dusty Balfour. Thank you to the Monarchs for setting upon this quest and completing it with style and finesse! I would like to thank our dedicated membership for their tireless efforts in working with Kieron & Dusty to make this another successful year. Without each and everyone of you, there would be no us! THE DREAM TEAM - Stephany & Robin, you have made the past 4 years so easy and enjoyable to carry this position. I am forever in debt to you both. Field trips, hotel runs, text messages galore. Thanks for all you do, always. This may be my final year as Ball Coordinator...but...you know I will always just be a message away. Ms. Bice - Thank you and your team for keeping that famous Waterfall Empire hospitality alive and well! Chairperson of the Executive, Colleen Cowman, PhD. Good Evening, Honoured Members of the Court, respected Colleagues, esteemed Guests, and dear Friends, please accept our most gracious welcome to Covocation XXIII of the Waterfall Empire of Hamilton, Niagara, and the Tri-Cities. We are delighted that you are joining us tonight. Congratulations, you have made the Honour Roll! On behalf of the Executive Council, I am proud to acknowledge and celebrate the successes and propitious achievements of Their Most Imperial Sovereign Majesties Emperor XXII Kieron A. Keegan and Empress XXIII Dusty Balfour of The Twenty-Second Imperial House of Frat Boys and Sorority Girls. As their distinguished Majesties perform their final task and step-down, with much anticipation and enthusiasm, The Waterfall Empire prepares to welcome and crown its twenty-third Monarch(s). It is my honour and privilege as Chairperson to thank our dedicated Executive Council for their leadership and hard work on behalf of the Membership over the past year. To our General Members, you have our sincere gratitude. On a regular basis you give of yourselves - with open hands and hearts - to ensure that our events and community presence live the mission of the Court. Thank you to each person who personally contributed their time, talent, and/ or treasure in 2016-2017. You make all things possible, and for that we can be very proud. Emperor XXII, Kieron A Keegan Greetings to our distinguished guests from near and far; I would like to start my greeting with something so basic, yet so often forgotten. Something that can change the world, two words at a time. Thank You. Thank you to each and every one of you here tonight. Thank you to everyone who contributed to supporting not only Reign XXII, but The Imperial Court of the Waterfall Empire and the International Imperial Court System as a whole. Absolute Empress I ‘Mama’ José – Thank you for blessing us with your legacy. Thank you for creating the Court System and allowing me the opportunity to meet so many amazing people. Queen Mother I of the Americas, Empress Nicole the Great – I remember a time, many years ago (well, not too many – we don’t want to sound old…), when a 27 year old young man from small-town Ontario, Canada wrote a letter to you, requesting to share, and I quote “A proposal for the pleasure of Your Majesty”. You called that young man within hours, asking him to meet with you in New York City to discuss his proposal for a 30 Under 30 Council. That discussion was the beginning of a friendship that I truly hold dear to my heart. We’ve had our disagreements (we can both be a little stubborn), but we’ve developed a sincere respect for each other. I thank you for being you and allowing me to be me. Emperors Rafael Giza Della Notte, Thomas Branscum, Jason Dickson-Vanderbildt and Harrington - Thank you for the honour of being your half Emperor. You are all so different from each other, yet have so much in common, the least of which is your desire to do what is best for your respective communities with style and grace. You should each be proud of what you have, and indeed, what you will accomplish. Thank you all for being a shining example of the wonderful people the IICS can bring together to become friends. To my Empress Dusty Balfour - You have made me so proud to reign beside you. Everything during this reign was done together. I am the luckiest Emperor in the IICS - not only is my Empress beautiful, she is smart, she is funny, she is kind and she is determined. But most importantly, my Empress is also my husband, who in addition to all of Dusty’s qualities, is an amazing Daddy Ray to Sir Alphie-Doo and Lord Barkington. Thank you for taking this journey with me. You may not have agreed with everything I did or wanted to do, but it means so much to me that I always had your unwavering support. The Imperial Court of the Waterfall Empire
Empress XXII, Dusty Balfour Often the year seems daunting, the tasks ahead, events to attend and quite the pressure to hit standard. All of it true. Our success, as Monarchs, as members of social fundraising groups and residents of communities is measured in so many varying forms. My measurement is simple: Did we accomplish what we set out to challenge ourselves with in the beginning, did we engage the community, attract new members and hold fundraisers that were fun? Most of the time we did. We successfully raised money for charities throughout the Empire and engaged some caring individuals who are now familiar with our kind of magic. An Empress once told me ‘A dollar raised, is a dollar more than we started with.’ That is all I have ever set out to do. Help others. Since my inception in Toronto over a decade ago until now, I celebrate those individuals who unite to raise awareness, inclusiveness and community. Along the way, there are always bumps to remind yourself to stay on path, and caring people to make sure you do not run for the hills; and in my case, blessed with a partner to share all the tribulations and celebrations. It is always so important to be inspired, not be afraid to dream and surround yourself with people who promote greatness. While we were in NYC for Night of a Thousand Gowns, I saw Sunset Boulevard. This musical has resonated with me for a decade, inspired by Bitsie, and driven by creativity, this time I did everything I wanted to do, and had some fun. Thank you Alan, thank you for inspiring new ways dream. Thankfully, I have a small but strong army of friends who inspire me, teach me, laugh with me, help me, listen to me and support me. I have some of the most wildly creative and talented friends, all of whom possess genius I could never muster if I had another lifetime to learn. Thank you for allowing me time to talk, yell, YALE, cry, watch you craft creations, share your house, drink wine, dip fries for girls night and keep me magnificently humble by wearing the very things you create. To the only man I have ever given my entirety to, I love you. Kieron, you alone can move mountains, it’s inspiring to watch, and beautiful to experience. The passion you have brought to this Reign is the reason why I know you to be successful, smart and brave as heck. Always, in service, I will forever be known as the Wicked Emerald...

Emperor and Empress XXII, Kieron A. Keegan & Dusty Balfour When we decided to run for the position of Emperor and Empress, we had an in-depth discussion about how the year would play-out. We decided early on that just as in real life, we were equals and every decision and action would be done together. It is in that spirit that we share the final portion of our stepdown letters. London – You were our first out-of-town walk as Emperor and Empress XXII, and have over the years made so many wonderful memories. The Emperor especially loves that you give him an opportunity to put on his cha-cha heels once a year. Miss Drew/Bradley, words simply cannot express the gratitude we have; from the flawless kickoff celebration to making sure we were always ‘good’ and always lending a hand at every single event. Imperial Crown Prince XXII, Daniel Anderson Where do I even begin? Reign 22 has been amazing. I was never really involved in the Court, I was just a bartender serving drinks at the shows. To be asked by Kieron and Dusty to be ICP 22 was an amazing honour. I really had no idea what to expect, but I’m so glad I did it. The travelling I got to do was so much fun, always knowing that Robin was just down the hall with a glass (or two) of Prosecco and random cheese and crackers. My first coronation was Toronto...what a fantastic weekend it was - great to see everybody that I’ve seen so many times before. Congratulations to Hunter and Morgan on a fantastic reign and to Jason and Nikki on what is turning out to be an amazing reign, love you both. Next, we were off to Holyoke, Massachusetts for what was one of my most memorable weekends. Anyone that’s ever travelled with the Emperor and Empress will know what I mean...I’ve never laughed so hard as I did on the road trip there, from blowing up Miss Kitty’s Facebook live video with hearts and likes, to visiting every restroom between Ontario and Holyoke. I met so many amazing people and it was a fantastic weekend. It was my first coronation outside of the ‘diamond’, and I was a bit nervous about not knowing anybody. I remember getting into the van to go to the venue and meeting the amazing Gingah E Rale and Savannah Devereaux. Savannah caught my eye because she had a tornado on her head. We laughed and laughed on the way to the venue, and I knew I was good! I remember my heart sinking when I was told I’d be the first person for protocol, I had no one to follow. My first out of country walk and I’m very first into the room - I just remember walking and thinking ‘Remember to bow Daniel, Nicole is here.’ Later that day I met ‘Mr. Boston’, John Nickerson. What an amazing guy - we talked and laughed and became instant friends. Love you buddy. Congratulations to Rafael Giza Della Notte and Hella Swag. Up next was Buffalo, although I didn’t get ‘Buffalo Drunk’...well, I don’t think so. It was a blast to see everybody, shopping with Renée in the day, Denny’s for breakfast and going to pick up our shirts and hats with Kieron...that was interesting! Justius thank you for being absolutely amazing and also for giving me the pink fan (which I still break out every so often). Who knew diamonds are a man’s best friend?! Chuleta, thanks for putting up with me randomly showing up. Congratulations to Thomas and Coco as well as Rex Heart and Anita Mandalay. Off to Halifax we went. I was the crazy guy that flew in Saturday morning and flew out Sunday afternoon. I was so impressed to see so many people I knew, it was like another Ontario coronation. The crew from London was there, Buffalo was there, Toronto was there and I met a whole bunch of new people. Sunday was the day of sightseeing. One thing I learned in Halifax - I will be happy to never see a kid with a hockey stick again! Congratulations to Brian and Dotti and Blake and Chinchilla. And now for the Waterfall Empire, where do I even begin? It’s been such an amazing year. I would like to start with Kieron and Dusty - I’m extremely honoured to have been - 18 -

Imperial Crown Prince XXII, Daniel Anderson asked to be ICP - it was an amazing ride. So, so, so many laughs and memories - I love you both so incredibly much. I couldn’t have asked for better Emperor and Empress to help me through the year. Kieron, you are one of the most amazing people I know. You were always there to help and answer my questions (trust me, I have a ton of them). How’s the pup? Woof woof! Dusty, I’m so happy that you brought Mrs. Doubtfire along on the ride with us - she’s always a blast to have in the room or in the car...or at the border! Thank you for everything this year. Renée (I think I’m going to need another page) you are my best friend, soulmate, partner in crime, drinking buddy, confidant, first person to make fun of me, and most important my mom. I love you so very much! There is no one better in my life than you, I truly think we were meant to be so close. We laugh, we cry, we annoy each other, but at the end of the day, we love each other. Thank you so much for being my rock on this journey. So many laughs and memories we’ve shared. Maybe one time I will actually sleep in the bed with you. Robert Holtz, thank you so much for always being here for me to vent to and ask questions - you have no idea how much you helped me get through this year. Imperial Crown Princess XXII, RenĂŠe Weber Welcome to Convocation XXIII to our out of town guests and dignitaries. I would first like to thank Kieron and Dusty for asking me to be a part of their reign as ICP. I was reluctant at first, but really believed in you both and your vision for a great year of fundraising, so I agreed to support and contribute as best as I could. I am glad that I did and proved that I could be a princess without the gowns and crowns! I was proud to stand by you both at all the events that we attended together. You both should be proud of everything that was achieved this year, despite some obstacles and lack of event venues. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Next I would like to thank my partner and BBFF Daniel Anderson! We were in this together, right from the beginning. We supported each other and encouraged each other when we needed a nudge to continue on. You truly are my best friend and I love you dearly! I had a great time attending Coronations in Toronto, Western Massachusetts, Buffalo and Halifax. Sharing a hotel room with 3 guys is truly a learning experience! Spending 7 hours each way on a road trip was also enlightening for all of us. #OhDeer Speaking to US customs officers is not one of my strengths, nor is trying to use a debit card at a US gas pump. #FAACCCCKKK I would like to thank Stephany and Chantal, Shada Black, Robin Derring and especially Miss Drew (Bradley) for your support and encouragement and the odd curtsy here and there! I am especially proud of our ICP Pasta Dinner event that Daniel and I organized. It was a fantastic evening of food, raffles, entertainment and fundraising that was well attended and raised a good amount for our charities. What an excellent event to end our reign!
