These two characters combined together means circumference, which means that FANG 圆 embraces guests from different circumferences, regardless of distance. LOCALITY
FANG 圆 is mainly appeals to
people who are interested in experiencing
Asian culture, especially tea ceremony, and the process of Zen. The process of tea ceremony, parallels to the process of proceeding the hotel from exterior to the interior, then from interior to one’s inner world.
FANG 圆 is an unique journey for customers to cultivate their mind and improve moral integrity. The three pillars to support this brand are the experience through Tea ceremony, Water (hot spring), and experience of Zen. COMMUNITY

LO B B Y & LO B B Y BA R The check-in area, or the lobby, is located at the back of the hotel. After walking through the garden trial, the guests will finally get to this space. The hotel lobby is often regarded as the “living room” of the whole hotel. Therefore, FANG 圆 wants its guests to feel warmly welcomed. The hotel lobby will open an atrim all the way to the second floor in order to achieve a welcoming and magnificent atmosphere. We really want our guests to take their experience of staying in FANG 圆 as a unique journey. Natural color palette and materials are also widely used to form a connection to nature.

LOBBY BAR Lobby bar is a private amenity space located next to the check-in area, along with a waiting zone that provides comfortable seating for our guests. While waiting for check-in, guests can grab a drink at the lobby bar while enjoying the relaxing music played here. Depending on different seasons, variety of drinks are provided on the menu. For example, during spring, we would offer scented tea. During summer, in order to relieve summer heat, we would offer ice tea or juice. During fall, Matcha is provided as a special. In Winter, hot ginger tea is served to prevent cold. In addition, sitting at the bar, our guests will get a great view of the garden through the curtain wall.

R E S TAU R A N T: P I N 品 The restaurant is named 品 PIN. It is directly translated as “taste” in English. The word “taste” and the character “品” contains several meanings, depending on different situations. On the one hand, we wish our guests to take their time to get the genuine taste of the foods. On the other hand, we aim to provide our guests with high standard and good taste, so that each bite satisfies them deeply. The restaurant has a atrim open to the second floor. Teahouse and an extended area of Book-Cafe are located at the second floor.

Just as what we propose for our micro hotel experience-slow down your pace and enjoy this journey--BOOKWORM is aimed to be a space where people in the community with different identities gather. There is a famous saying that one can make friends through reading books. Books have the power to bring two people together, and make their world overlaps.

R IH U A FAC TO RY 2019 BEIJING INTERNATIONAL DESIGN WEEK COMPETITION RENOVATION + MICRO APARTMENT AREA: 39720 SQ FT LOCATION: RIHUA FACTORY, TONGZHOU DISTRICT, BEIJING DESIGN TEAM: DAMU DESIGN
SITE ANALYSIS

R I H U A FAC TO RY Rihua Factory is a renovation project held during the Beijing International Design Competition Week. Established in 1958, Rihua Factory was once a factory that manufactured Goldfish Detergent. During that period, Rihua Factory provided industrial productivity, but as the 3rd industrial revolution approaches, all the factories have been removed from Beijing, including Rihua Factory.
Concept Graphic (Group works)
Embracing the convenience brought by technology in this new generation, it is also crucial for us to remember and learn from the past as well. Located in Tongzhou district in Beijing, Rihua factory is near a canal that runs across Beijing. The factory used the canal for production and transportation; at present, there are new communities that live along the canal. Time flies and generations change, but the canal has been flowing for centuries, witnessing all those changes. Therefore, keeping most of the architectural features of the Rihua Factory, a red bridge runs across the building from the outside gallery to the roof top. The red bridge is like a ribbon that ties the past, present, and future together, just like the canal. The interior is a combination of apartment, office, and place of entertainment for designers. Designers’ daily life is also aided by an APP that helps designers to check availability and manage their schedule.

H O R S E BA R N The School of Human Ecology wants to renovate the Horse barn which is located at the end of Linden Drive. The goal of this project is to reconsider the layout and the interior look of the horse barn and to turn the space into a collaborative space that
COMMUNITY
hosts international scholars, professors, faculties and students while providing guests for short visites.
LECTURE
The interior gives a fresh look while embracing the historical concept and elements inside the building. Therefore, the interior style of this innovation space should hold an earthy and a bit mid-tone modern look. Natural wood is used in a large proportion both for the structure and the accent look of the building. Besides, curtain walls are widely used for the innovation hub and classrooms to make the space feel more open. Biophilic design elements such as greenery walls, waterfall, and earthy textures in the main lobby and hallways add freshness into the building.
