How companies can improve their online visibility thanks to Google +1

I chose the Google tool called Google +1 because I totally discovered it when looking at the slideshare presentation! Indeed, I have always wondered about this small +1 when surfing on the web or when launching new researches on Google. Nevertheless, I had always seen it, without ever searching for an explanation! What is it and how does it work? Google +1 has been created in order to “publicly recommend pages across the web”. Remember that each +1 you do becomes visible to anyone who can see the +1 content! When you +1 something, it becomes blue and you can see how many other people +1 it (with their pictures if you have a Google+ profile).


It is crucial to note that “90% of online consumers follow and trust recommendations from people they know�; in other words, if I add +1 for an article, a video, a blog, or anything I liked and found interesting on the internet, then my family, friends, acquaintances, etc, will be tempted to have a look at it! This will help me, as an individual, to develop my networks and have a visible and measurable impact on people that I know (please watch the following video in the next article of this blog); especially as a company, it is one of the perfect ways to improve my visibility and enlarge my business networking, if all my friends are interested in what I do and +1, then their friends and connections will trust these persons and +1 again!!

Moreover, +1ing should be coupled with Google+ platform for a more effective use and impact: people can share their +1 on their Google+ profile, by adding comments and sending it directly to people they have selected, from their Google addresses web book!

It can also be compared as a “favoris” file: all the +1s are recorded within a tab on your Google+ account and you can share it with specific groups (picture hereafter).

Latest inputs One of the latest revolutions during the beginning of this online visibility marathon is the presence of the +1 on Google News! Indeed, according to this French article, last week was launched the set up of the +1 when looking around in the “Actualités” section on the first page of Google. This will then allow people to share the latest news worldwide when checking out an interesting topic! (Picture hereafter).


In addition, in October 2011, Google started to set up the +1 button on‌ ADS! This strategy aims at having more influence and impact on consumers, because if they see that their relatives +1 it, they will think it is interesting and will go and look for this special ad. This will then raise the visibility of a brand and/or company, and will therefore improve the traffic on its own website, which will finally benefits the sales turnover! Last but not least, the +1 button is now available on the mobile web: it appears on websites and ads when looking at it from our mobile phones.


Competition: 3…2…1…GO! What a close match !

By launching this +1 button, Google is also directly competing with Facebook and its “I like” button, available on websites and browsers since April 2010. According to this article, the “I like” button engenders a growth from 50 to 300% in terms of visits on websites, coming directly from Facebook. Unfortunately, among: Facebook stays number one!!
