WELCOME Welcome to August’s Home and Living. It’s back to school time and there’s sunshine! It’s been such a mixed bag weather wise. We try and eat on the patio all summer and I think we managed about three nights this year - and one of those we had to abandon as it was just too cold! So, a nice September would really be appreciated now please! On the plus side, I do like a bit of retail therapy and rain is as good an excuse as any to go shopping! We are looking at bedrooms this month, master and guest rooms, which was good timing as I have been designing a new room for my son – which I promised about two years ago! I am so thrilled he is leaning towards scandi boho, with some retro posters thrown in for good measure - very sophisticated for a 12-year-old - but I’m not complaining! If you're planning a revamp of your master bedroom, take a look at our tips. If you are having some friends or family coming for Christmas – yes, it’s only just around the corner - have a look at how to make your guests feel pampered. Next month we are looking at making your home winter ready, with throws, cushions and fireplaces, for getting all those lovely cozy hygge feelings.

Sweet Dreams

DESIGNING YOUR

MASTER BEDROOM

If you're in need of some major master bedroom inspiration - then you've come to the right place!

The master bedroom is often the last room in the home to get a makeover. We tend to revamp the most seen areas first and often the budget is used up by the time we get around to the bedrooms! We spend on average one third of our life sleeping, so it’s very important to have a relaxing room to get the best night’s sleep possible! Whether you want a complete overhaul or just some styling ideas, these rooms will get you psyched to start the project.

might feel a bit daunting, but if you choose a more understated print and stick to a tight colour story, it won't be overwhelming. If you are not that brave, a feature wall with a bolder aesthetic might be your thing - both work!

Have fun with it

Introduce a reading nook

When designing your master bedroom, the only real rule is to be true to your personal style. If that means mixing fun prints and using bold colors - don't hesitate to do so.

We may not have time for sitting in our bedroom reading, but there are days when the solitude you get in a bedroom is needed. If you have the space, add a reading nook. All you need is a comfy chair with a side table and lamp or standing light.

Choose a stylish headboard A wide upholstered headboard brings more fabric into a bedroom, while enabling the integration of eclectics. Think of it as an extra opportunity to use color without taking up a huge amount of space.

Liven up the walls Wallpapering your whole bedroom

Pick a luxe carpet If you’re choosing carpet - go luxe. A bedroom is not a high traffic area so you can afford to go for a softer pile and even a lighter colour. This makes the whole space feel more luxurious.

Opt for minimalism If your style is minimalistic, then you

can’t go wrong with white walls and a simple black four poster for that wow factor, without the clutter.

Go scandi boho If you love the bohemian look but also want your master bedroom room to feel grounded and contemporary - boho is your go to. Think patterned rugs and pillows, wicker furniture, and seagrass shades.

Think big with art If your headboard is low profile, this allows for a large piece of art above the bed. You could also try a gallery wall if you don't have larger artworks to display.

Pick an anchor item A headboard is cool, but this is your master bedroom after all, so go all out. You’re not going to need masses of fabric as you do with curtains, so you can afford to go higher end here. A bold

pattern and colour makes an all-white room pop.

Balance coziness with style Even if your home is more traditional in style, you don’t need to go all chintzy, the decor doesn’t have to match. Balance it out with contemporary light fixtures, a geometric rug, and bright pops of colour from a lamp and blankets. Lacquered furniture also goes a long way to modernise a space.

Use bright colours Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to stay completely neutral in a bedroom deep blues, purples, and jewel-tone greens liven up a stark white room. To up the vibe even more, add in brass accents like a lamp, drawer pulls, and a chandelier.

A NEW BEGINNING FOR THE DEN The design scheme was selected in order to make the area feel welcoming, different and full of character for teenagers. Different textures were introduced, the rug, sofa and natural material of the blind, work in harmony. The geometric pattern of the Roman blind was selected to go with the lively atmosphere of the kid’s den. Custom made architrave frames the window giv-

ing it definition and connects the room with the outside. The burnt orange brings a feeling of warmth and makes the space inviting. Autumn is a perfect time for new beginnings. Interior design by Kadri Bormeister

Pamper your guests

WITH SMALL CHANGES

Roll out the red carpet - or the patterned rug - with these spare bedroom decorating ideas. If you don’t have time or budget for a full makeover - small touches like a potted plant, fresh throw pillow, or cozy throw can refresh your guest room before your guests, or as my nan used to call them “the visitors” arrive. If you have the time, give a dated space a budget-friendly design update by painting the walls, ceiling, or floor. A large piece of art can completely change the tone of a room. A corner chair and reading light is also a great addition and can be borrowed from another room. This will give your guests their own space! Before the doorbell rings, lay out some fresh towels, extra blankets and pillows. A footstool at the end of the bed gives

them somewhere to place their case. Add some new magazines plus a carafe of water and drinking glasses. Earn some bonus points by leaving the WiFi password on the bedside locker, and quickly test the lights for burnt bulbs. The finishing touch: bringing in a bouquet of fresh flowers, either from the store or snipped from the backyard. I love to put a basket or jars with some small shampoos, shower gel, soap, some make-up removal pads and some facecloths. All these little extras make your guests feel extra special, so expect to see a lot more RSVPs coming your way. Your guests will want to visit again and again — and give you a five-star rating if they could.

As well as having a highly cosmetic finish with outstanding kerb appeal, resin is over 10 times more Eco-friendly in

comparison to concrete Most importantly it allows water to drain naturally through the finished surface, reducing puddles and slippage. resin bound is a surface with high anti-slip properties and it is weed resistant, meaning no more maintenance. Over 20 colours available Certified installer
