Ade's ingenious selfie is a winner

The latest Portrait themed Killarney Camera Club competition had a mix of photos from candid to posed.

Participants used natural light, studio lights and even torch light to get the desired look that they envisioned. However, it was Ade Desbrow who won the Unrestricted category with his self-portrait while Mary O’Sullivan had her first win in the Novice category.

"Ade said he used early morning natural window light to capture his self image," Deirdre Donohue from Killarney Camera Club said.

"He explained that he first put a pillow on a chair where his face would be; focused on it and then locked the camera lens focus so it would be sharp. He then switched places with the pillow and took the photo using the timer on the camera. An ingenious selfie!"

The results are as follows:

Unrestricted category

1st Place: Ade Desbrow, Image 1 ‘Me’

2nd Place: Seamus Long, Image 13 'Cow Girl'

3rd Place: Tina Costigan, Image 8, 'Portrait'.

Novice category

1st Place: Mary O’Sullivan, Image 22, 'Portrait',

Joint 2nd Place: Maryann Heidtke, Image 3, 'Hannah'

Joint 2nd Place: Anne Kelly, Image 14, 'Ellen'

Joint 2nd Place: Noel O’Neill, Image 20, 'Dara'

3rd Place: Deirdre Donohue, Image 21, 'Quizzical'.
