Celtic girls through to last four of Ireland
The Killarney Celtic U17 girls team are just one game away from an All-Ireland final after Sunday’s incredibly hardfought victory over Aisling Annacotty of Limerick.
Celtic found themselves a goal ahead after 14 minutes of this National Cup quarter-final tie when Eve Culhane latched on to Aideen O’Brien’s flicked pass and applied the finish.
The lead was short-lived, however, as the hosts equalised six minutes later, and they struck again before half-time to make it 2-1.
The hill became even steeper for the Killarney girls not long after the break when
Aisling made it 3-1, but this setback spurred them back into action. They dominated the match thereafter, bagging four goals in succession via Katie Doe, Katie Foster, O’Brien and Maeve Courtney.
In the end, the 5-3 scoreline didn’t flatter the visitors, who played superbly in the searing heat.
After resounding National Cup victories over Riverside and Macroom in the earlier rounds, and now this latest comeback win over a strong Aisling Annacotty team, these young Celts can face into the semi-final with optimism. Well done to the players and to their coaches Alan O’Sullivan, Dave McIndoe and Tanya McCormick.
