Lynch narrowly misses out on semi-final spot in Youth Olympics
Colleges from the United States of America are said to be keeping an eye on Killarney Valley Athletic Club 800m runner Oisin Lynch.
Lynch narrowly missed out on a place in the 800m finals at the European Youth Olympics in Slovenia.
He finished in 11th place in the semi final but rued a slow start over the opening 400m which ultimately cost him a top ten finish and a place in the final.
“Keep an eye on this young sportsman as he will gain more international caps and podium finishes into the future. Currently a number of colleges in the USA are keeping track of his progress,” said the club’s Jeremiah Griffin.
“He can be very proud of himself. The young athlete would have preferred a faster first 400m getting him closer to his personal best, which would have secured him a final spot.”
Lynch was accompanied on the trip to Slovenia by his proud parents Martina and Con. His father is a distance coach at Killarney Valley Athletic Club.
