Residents have grave concerns over placement of Asylum seekers Kerry TD Danny Healy Rae has asked that the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Roderic O'Gorman meet residents of the Muckross Road area to hear their concerns on the placement of 70 male International Protection Seekers in a hotel in the area. Earlier this month it was announced that 70 male International Protection Seekers were to be moved into the Harmony Hotel. The announcement sparked anger in the local area. An open public meeting took place in the Killarney Avenue Hotel on Sunday night to address these concerns. Over 300 people attended. Healy Rae was one of many local public representatives to attend the meeting. “Many people vented their anger and concern about this hurried introduction of these people into their community, concerns were especially raised about the intimidating effect that this would

have on all local people and especially young boys and girls and older senior people and also the damage the loss of another guest house to the hospitality sector and the Killarney Tourism product,” he said. “Other issues raised was about the cramming of over 70 people into 22 bedrooms. at the end of the meeting it was unanimously requested that the minister meets with a deputation of local residents in Killarney at the earliest opportunity and certainly before any further asylum seekers are placed in Killarney.” Meanwhile, local councillor Martin Grady
has also been briefed by local residents who have raised concerns on the matter. “They have grave concerns, that fact that its looking likely 70 unvetted men will be residing in their neighbourhood. While not painting all with the same brush, I totally understand the residents’ concerns and fears in light of what happened in Park Road on News Years Day this year as I experienced the anti-social behaviour it brought to the neighbourhood,” he said. “No one should be in such fear in their homes or neighbourhood. Shame on the selfish landlords that have no consideration for the people of Killarney.”
Healy-Rae brought the issue up in the Dail this week. “They want this decision reversed because there is a lack of surety of safety and services in the town of Killarney now with the amount of Asylum seekers and refugees that are being placed there, we seem to be taking way more than our share in Killarney,” he said. “The Matter of vetting is very important to these people, where are these people coming from? The residents want to know who is coming in beside them, where are they from, how many different countries are they coming from because we had trouble earlier in the year in another side of town and the people of Killarney are concerned, old and young and women are fearing for their safety with this amount of people being placed beside them in the town of Killarney.” Minister Simon Harris gave him no hearing whatsoever. He said: “I am going to have to bite my lip, I think that is a dog whistle in many ways, those comments there, I would love to know what you think people are fearing in terms of their safety and what peoples nationalities have to do with their safety , but I think you and I have a very different outlook on this and I think the majority of the people in Kerry do too.”
Killarney Immigrant Support Centre calls for better understanding The Killarney Immigrant Support Centre (KASI) issued a far-reaching statement to the Killarney Advertiser. In the statement KASI’s Marilyn Catapat-Counihan outlined several issues that need to be taken on-board.
CONTINUED SUPPORT
"As a local NGO supporting Asylum Seekers, Refugees and other Migrants, our slant on it is if another 100 or 1,000 people arrive in Killarney, we will continue to provide the necessary support and services to the newcomers to the best of our ability and the resources we have… However, we genuinely understand as well and agree that local services are
over-stretched and under-resourced, including our own. Frustration that the issue should be directed towards government decisions regarding where it accommodates people and not to those 70 male Asylum Seekers, who, in fairness with the rhetoric that’s going on in social media and even during the open meeting held the last few days, it saddened us that these male Asylum Seekers are already pre-judged, solely, perhaps because of their status (Asylum Seekers), perhaps the colour of their skin and their gender (Male Asylum Seekers) before they even arrive in Killarney. The language which insinuates that people arriving are a danger or a threat simply because they are men is prejudiced
and disturbing. May we ask where people based their fear and blatantly insinuate that Killarney will never be a safe place to walk around once these newcomers to our town arrive? We have been working with IP applicants and other refugees from different cultural backgrounds, and our experience has been very positive and humbling, to say the least. These people left their country not for adventure – they left their country out of necessity… It is not up to any of us to judge who is genuine or not. There is a process and the reality is people don’t leave their own native land and then be treated badly and with suspicion, if not out of necessity,
And perhaps, if given the welcome, support and respect any human being deserve, there is no doubt, most of those people will contribute to make Ireland a more vibrant and progressive society. Irish people, more than any race, should appreciate that last sentiment."

Secrecy surrounds Land Development Agency’s interest in St Finan’s Elected members of Killarney Municipal District have slammed the government’s secrecy surrounding the future of St Finan’s Hosptial.
RDI Hub opens podcast facility
The landmark building has been idle since 2012. Since then several ideas have been put forward for the site including social housing and using the now derelict building as an extended campus of the Munster Technology University with a specific focus on the hospitality indus-
try. However, nothing has come to fruition. At last week’s Killarney Municipal District meeting local politicians were informed that the Land Development Agency was looking at the site with a view to building houses there. Cllr Maura Healy Rae said: “We are elected members and we get no details, what is being said? What is the secrecy – why can’t we be let into details of what is being done?”
Are you looking to expand your business reach, engage with your customers on a deeper level and drive business growth in your industry? Podcasting has grown exponentially over the past few years and has become an essential tool for businesses, entrepreneurs and content creators to showcase their expertise and engage with their target audience. The RDI hub is delighted to announce the launch of our new podcasting studio. Our one day training workshop ‘Introduction to podcasting’ is back by popular demand. This hands on workshop is run by Patrick Haughey of Audiobrand and will take place on November 21. A previous attendee of this workshop, Ciara Brosnan of Enchant VA, rated the course highly. ‘Patrick’s course was amazing, I learned so much over the course of a day, I would recommend it to anyone.’ We are currently running a series of Black Friday promotions on ALL our podcasting
packages! You don’t need any prior expertise to use the services as full support is available at the RDI hub. We asked Gearoid O Sullivan, our production manager about the facilities. He said ‘The podcast studio is accessible to anyone regardless of level of expertise, there is full production and editing available onsite, so we can give you whatever support your project needs dependent on your requirements. I am happy to chat with anyone who would like to learn more, whether it’s your first time recording a podcast or if you are building onto an existing series.’ To find out more about our programmes or packages, please contact Megan by emailing megan.dalytyrrell@rdihub.com or log onto www.rdihub.com/podcasts
Confirmation that 250 houses to be built on Upper Park Road Kerry County Council has confirmed that planning permission for 250 houses has been granted for 250 houses in Cronin’s Wood on Upper Park Road. The plan was first revealed by the Killarney Advertiser in September. Kenmare-based KPH Construction will build 249 homes in the area. The development, which will be built on a recently cleared site near An Post’s sort-
ing office, will include a variety of properties from five-bed houses to single apartments, along with a crèche and over 500 car spaces and over 300 bike spaces. The development has been welcomed by local councillor Martin Grady. “Killarney has a massive housing shortage so this is very positive. It will retain young families in the area, stimulating economic growth,” he said. “After 17 years of different planning applications it’s finally coming to fruition.”
Expansion plans for Aghadoe Heights Hotel The Aghadoe Heights Hotel is set to add 30 new bedrooms to its facility overlooking the Lakes of Killarney. The additional bed space will bring to hotel up to 104 rooms.
There are also plans in place to expand the hotel’s spa and extend the car park. The expansion was confirmed by Kerry County Council in its weekly planning permission bulletin. Construction work is expected to start in 2025.

Santa books his seat in the cosy corner He’s making a list, he’s checking it twice and his elves have been in touch with their friends in Killarney to find out who’s been naughty or nice. But the best news of all is that Santa Claus is coming to town. The jolly man in red has booked a cosy corner at Killarney Outlet Centre where he will spend every weekend from the end of November until Christmas, meeting and greeting excited children and their families as the most magical time of the year rapidly approaches. Taking a break from the hive of activity that is the North Pole workshop, Santa’s sleigh will touch down for the first time on the weekend of November 25/26 and he will return to town every weekend right up until December 22/23. Santa will be in his fabulous cosy corner from 1.00pm to 5.00pm each day and families who want to get souvenir snapshots with the man who makes Christmas wishes come true are encouraged
to have their own cameras or smartphones to hand. The opportunity to meet and greet Santa and chat to him about the magic of Christmas is absolutely free of charge and he said he is really looking forward to hearing what the boys and girls of Killarney would like to find under the tree this year. There will be gifts galore throughout the stores in Killarney Outlet Centre every day until Christmas and all the 20 stores in the building are making a very special effort to spread some festive cheer for 2023. And Santa has reminded those looking for good gift ideas that Killarney Outlet Centre gift vouchers are available from the management offices for use in all stores

Halloween bonfires cost taxpayer €2,400 The Killarney Fire Brigade was called to 14 bonfires during September and October this year. This included three callouts to bonfires on Halloween night. Each callout costs in the region of €800. The figures were released at a recent Killarney Municipal District meeting following a motion put forward by Cllr John O’Donoghue. “My reason behind this motion is I was contacted by a resident in Killarney who claimed the Fire Services has been called out four times in the space of 48 hours to bonfires in his area,” said the Coun-
cillor. “If true, this is a shocking statistic as firstly it is a colossal waste of taxpayers’ money, and secondly, the job our Fire Service does is far too important to be wasting time putting out fires which are needlessly started, and my fear would be that they would be tied up sorting bonfires out when they could be needed more urgently elsewhere. I feel we should ask An Garda Síochána to provide an increasingly visible presence in our estates in the weeks leading up to Halloween, particularly in areas known to be bonfire hotspots.”

Two Killarney STEM students receive Johnson & Johnson’s University scholarships Two Killarney STEM student are among five in total from Kerry that have been selected for prestigious scholarships. Eimear O’Connor (Annascaul), Sarah Lynch (Listowel), Méabh O’Connell (Killarney), Alison Ward (Castleisland) and Ciara Casey (Killarney) were amongst 62 students from across five Irish universities who have been awarded scholarships as part of the prestigious Women in STEM2D (WiSTEM2D) Undergraduate Awards at the first ever national event held in Thomond Park Stadium, Limerick this week. The Award recognises outstanding female students in STEM2D disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Manufacturing and Design. Sixty-two students from Trinity College Dublin, University of Limerick, University College Cork, University of Galway and Munster Technology University have received scholarships as part of the programme. This is the eighth year of the annual awards programme, showcasing the company’s commitment to advancing female excellence in STEM fields. This is the first year that the company has brought all recipients together for a day-long event, with all attendees
benefitting from a unique learning experience, including workshops and breakout sessions, carefully tailored to foster their growth and provide them with the essential skills and knowledge needed to prepare them for a successful career. Research published by the Higher Education Authority earlier this year identified that 35% of students in STEM-related courses at third level are female. Furthermore, the HEA noted that the gender gap continues to remain evident at post-primary level. Johnson & Johnson recognises the importance of inspiring students to consider a career in STEM, and is committed to igniting the spark of curiosity in young minds, nurturing the STEM leaders of tomorrow, and maintaining a robust talent pipeline to support the life sciences industry. Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris TD, said: “Huge congratulations to the recipients of the Johnson & Johnson WiSTEM2D Award on their achievements. What they have achieved to date is inspirational and I hope will encourage more

Science week at St Brigid's This week sees the annual Science Week festivities kicking off around the country, and it has been no different in St. Brigid's. Classes took to the beautiful National Park (which we are so lucky to have on our doorstep) to compete in a Science Scavenger Hunt. This involves various activities such as finding the pH, flow rate and hardness of the River Deenagh's wa-
ter as well as identifying a variety of our local flora and fauna. Meanwhile indoors the 'SpaghettiMarshmallow' challenge was underway, where students competed to build the tallest tower to support a marshmallow using minimal resources. Quizzes and competitions have continued throughout the week, as the school aims to encourage the budding scientists of the future.

The programme which will be officially launched in the coming weeks, has grown with new exciting additions for the body, mind and soul to be announced! . Pat Chawke, Wander Wild Festival Chairperson, said, “The festival sup-
ports over 60 local businesses, the majority of which are small businesses, from one man operations upwards. Every booking and sale is so important to them and to our local economy. Wander Wild is about offering adventure and new experiences to visitors to Killarney - what better guides to have than locals. You can support them, their businesses and the festival by purchasing a gift voucher or by booking an activity for next year’s festival.” So this Christmas, support local and pick up a Wander Wild gift voucher on wanderwildfestival.com. Foilmore National School traffic-calming review A full review of road safety measures is required at Foilemore National School, near Cahersiveen, according to Fianna Fáil Councillor, Michael Cahill. The school is on the busy N70 Ring of Kerry route, with limited single line parking available at the roadside for both staff and visiting parents. “The advertised Speed Limit at Foilemore NS is 60kph, but because of the narrow road there, 30kph would seem much more appropriate. Flashing light warning signs should also be installed, to forewarn motorists of the schools location” stated Councillor Cahill. “Drop off and collection times are particularly dangerous obviously, because of additional traffic volumes. Cars pulling in and out, doors opening, students alighting, all add to a dangerous mix in such a narrow, contained space. A much reduced speed limit and more visible signage is required, I believe, and I will be calling on Kerry County Council Engineers and National Road Engineers to take a
look at it, with a view to making much needed safety improvements there,” said the Rossbeigh based Councillor. "This particular stretch of road on Ireland’s Premier Tourist Route, is an accident waiting to happen and lives are at risk here on a daily basis. I have raised this urgent matter with Kerry County Council Senior Engineers, with the Minister for the Environment, with Transport Infrastructure Ireland, with the Department of Transport and the Road Safety Authority and I have requested Road Safety Improvements to be carried out as a matter of priority," added Councillor Cahill.
Castlemaine Harbour coastal erosion Kerry County Council have confirmed to Fianna Fáil Councillor Michael Cahill that consultants are currently updating the draft final report on the Castlemaine Harbour Coastal Flood & Erosion Risk Management Study following extensive discussions with the Coastal and Flooding Unit, in response to a 'Notice of Motion' moved by the Councillor at a recent meeting of Kerry County Council.
“Kerry County Council has confirmed to me that this study has been a significant undertaking and it has examined Caherpierce, Aughills, Roscullen, Gurrane, Cromane, Dooks and Rossbeigh from a perspective of coastal flooding and erosion.
I, along with the many residents affected, look forward to seeing the results of this long awaited study and we eagerly await the solutions planned,” said Councillor Cahill. “The fear in the hearts of the residents of these vulnerable locations is sad to see, as they do not know the next occasion water will come powering in to their homes. We expect comprehensive solutions to be planned for these areas, when an end will be put to this living nightmare for so many people,” added the Rossbeigh based Councillor. "We all have seen the implications of Climate Change and the matter of both rainwater and seawater coming into one's home or business, must be addressed for once and for all" added Councillor Cahill.
€955,000 for flood relief at Clieveragh, Listowel Minister Patrick O’Donovan, T.D with responsibility for the Office of Public Works has today announced funding of almost €1million to Kerry County Council for flooding works in the town of Listowel. The funding of €955,000 will be used for flood defences to protect some 50 properties at risk from flooding at Clieveragh in Listowel. The Clieveragh area has experienced significant flooding in 2009, 2012, 2014 and 2015 and again in 2023. Minister O’Donovan said: “Recently, I met with concerned community and business representatives from Listowel, who have experienced flooding in recent years. Only this summer, after a signifi significant heavy rainfall event, the streams in Clieveragh could not take the volumes of water. “People cannot be asked to live with the risk and the fear of flooding where an easy solution can be identified and easily delivered. While there is a planned flood relief scheme for Listowel, a simple solution can be easily delivered in advance of the main scheme to manage the flood
risk at the boundary of the town.” The funding will enable works to include: over ground storm water attenuation pond ; new open channel to convey the outflow from the pond to the Clieveragh watercourse to the south and a box culvert under the R552. Minister O’Donovan added: “Kerry County Council and the OPW have already discussed the most efficient ways to carry out these works, and an announcement on this will be made shortly.” Today’s allocation brings funding to manage flooding at Clieveragh to €1.1m after previous amounts of €176,000 in 201617 were allocated to Kerry County Council to explore and design a flood relief solution for the area. Minister O’Donovan concluded: “Today’s funding is just the start of a bigger flood relief scheme for Listowel, and comes from the €1.3bn allocated for flood relief measures under the National Development Plan, (NDP). Since 2018 the Government has trebled the number of flood relief schemes at design and construction to some 100 schemes nationally.”
Concerns over long delay in publishing energy report Deputy Michael Healy-Rae T.D has condemned the slow pace of action by the Minister for Environment, Climate and Communications Mr Eamon Ryan following a failure in producing a Government review into the security of Ireland’s energy supply. This despite having an initial draft report received by his department in November 2022 with a final version submitted on January 2023. “This review is pivotal for any Government plan to safeguard at the very least our country’s energy supply against potential unknown factors while we trying to balance the need to reduce green-
house gas emissions in a way which is sustainable to people. “It is a topic and a policy that the Green party have shouted long and loud about for years but yet when it comes to action, there isn’t even ink on the paper. What other Department would have a draft report of a plan for almost a year and yet has failed to produce it. What is in it that is so awful and why the huge delay” Deputy Michael Healy Rae TD commended following an answer to a parliamentary question seeking more information on the delay. Deputy Michael Healy Rae TD is calling on Minister Eamon Ryan to sign-off and publish the report with more urgency.

Over 15,000 Transition Year students will take part in the a celebration of languages and culture from November 27 December 1. Over 180 schools across the country, including Killarney Community College, have signed up to the Languages Connect flagship event which has grown considerably since its inception six years ago. This year’s festival theme again focuses on “Think Global, Act Local” as students are encouraged to look to the diversity of languages spoken within their school, community and beyond as inspiration for their individual events. Transition Year students, coordinators and modern foreign language teachers across the nation have embraced this with a variety of local speakers lined up to address students at Killarney Community Council. The local college has invited a French and
a Spanish professor from University of Limerick to talk about the importance of language. Killarney Community College has also entered the #ThinkLanguages Competition where this year, if successful, they will be named #ThinkLanguages Champion Team of the year and win the enviable prize of an exclusive trip to the multicultural capital of Europe, Brussels. This year students can enjoy sessions such as Korean and Taekwondo, German and the Viennese Waltz, Portuguese and Capoeira, Spanish and Latin American Percussion and Translation with translators, to name just a few. Students have been busy preparing for weeks as each event is tailormade by individual schools with the support of Languages Connect, an awareness raising campaign facilitated by Post Primary Languages Ireland.

Kilcummin Gaelic Mothers and Others fundraising quiz Kilcummin Gaelic Mothers and Others held a table quiz November 10 at the Killarney Avenue Hotel brought together many trivia experts for a night of fun, knowledge, and generosity. The competing teams, representative of Kilcummin and further afield, were in high spirits as the wonderful Quiz Master, the maestro himself, Cathal Walshe put the participants through their paces with a variety of questions, testing the most ardent intellectuals on the night. Indeed, Cathal went above and beyond by demonstrating his musical prowess by entertaining those convened with a few of his favourite tunes. The club's neighbours, Killarney Legion Mother’s and Others, added much to the night and their support for the event was much appreciated. The ‘Big Raffle’ on the night contributed enormously to the fun and atmosphere of the evening, and also contributed in no small way to the final financial outcome. A huge thank you to all the generous
businesses and individuals who contributed prizes to this part of the night. “We are overwhelmed by the incredible support we received on the night but also from the many businesses and individuals who helped to make the night a great success,” said Ann Marie O Leary, one of the organisers of the event. “We would also like to extend our gratitude to the management and staff of the Killarney Avenue Hotel who hosted the evening and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all who attended and participated on the night.” The night generated over €1,300.00 for the Kilcummin Mothers and Others Ladies Football Team and the funds raised will help to support the team over the coming months.
Students learn tips for correct gum disposal The ‘Gum Litter Taskforce Bin It! Roadshow’ visited St Brigid's Presentation Secondary School on Tuesday. Students took part in the hour-long workshop, where they learned more about correct litter disposal and the important role, they can play in caring for the environment. ‘The Bin It! Roadshow’ is an integral part of the Gum Litter Taskforce’s gum litter education campaign, promoting the responsible disposal of gum litter to schoolchildren through fun actor-led workshops and interactive learning materials. This year is the largest roadshow to date,
with performances scheduled for 70 schools across the country. “We are delighted to return this year with the largest Bin It! Roadshow schedule to date. The Bin it! Roadshow is an integral part of the GLT campaign and provides an important opportunity to engage with young people about the environmental impacts of littering in a positive and interactive way,” said Jonathon McDade, Chairperson of the Gum Litter Taskforce. “It’s great to see the expansion of the Roadshow this year which reflects the level of interest we’re seeing from schools and is a testament to the Bin It! team for creating such an interesting performance,”

History of World Ploughing Championship remembered in Killarney Mrs Anna May McHugh, Managing Director and Secretary of National Ploughing Association and her daughter Anna Marie McHugh, Assistant Managing Director Killarney got together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Killarney Valley Classic and Vintage Club. They took time to reminisce and made a surprise visit to Anne O’Shea and her family in O’Sullivan Place. Anne's, whose late husband Paddy was well known community stalwart, football and hurling champion, and local historian. Paddy had written an inventory of machinery for the World Ploughing Championships when it was held in Killarney in 1954. Paddy’s meticulous programme included a detailed catalogue with the name of each tractor, the number and signature of each competitor - at that time Paddy worked in Culloty.s Garage in College Street and had a great interest in machinery and cars. Anne presented the programme to Tom Leslie, Chairman of Killarney Valley Classic and Vintage Club who in turn presented it to Anna May McHugh, who was secretary of the National Ploughing Association when the world championships were held in Killarney. It was the first World Ploughing Contest
to take place on European soil and the second ever World Ploughing Competition. Both Anna May and Anne recalled many stories, including the ‘frock’ for ‘Queen of the Plough’ which was purchased in Hilliard’s drapery shop! Anne O’Shea’s own family were also involved with the historical event. “I remember my parents owned a bar in College Street, my father had the franchise for the bar on the grounds of Killarney House. Because he was a civil servant, he wasn’t supposed to be running a bar. My Mother made the sandwiches, and he washed the glasses (out of sight)” The McHugh Ladies were ushered to Killarney Race Course, as special guests of honour, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Killarney Valley Classic and Vintage Club. The Club has raised thousands of euro for local charities since their establishment in 2013.

As the leaves fall and the air chills, Killarney gears up for the most bustling shopping days of the year: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. These two giants in the retail world aren't just big news globally: they're a huge deal locally. Let's start with Black Friday. Born in the USA, this shopping extravaganza lands the day after Thanksgiving and unofficially ushers in the holiday shopping season. It's a day synonymous with eye-catching sales and queues of eager shoppers snaking around stores. And it's not just a bigcity thing - our Killarney shops are right in the thick of it, their windows dressed to impress and adverts teasing the kind of deals that are available. But wait, there's more. Just as the weekend winds down, Cyber Monday jumps into the spotlight. This online shopping fiesta is perfect for those who prefer to bag a bargain from the comfort of their sofa. And our local retailers? They're not missing a beat, offering online exclusives that make skipping the in-store hustle a seriously tempting option. These two shopping powerhouses do more than just empty wallets; they fill up the tills and help predict what's hot and what's not for the season. Killarney's shops are savvy, too. They're upping their online game and turning to social media to spread the word about their deals, ensuring everyone gets a slice of the sale
It’s Black Friday! Let the Christmas Rush Begin
season action, both in-store and online. Of course, it's not all smooth sailing. Black Friday and Cyber Monday come with their fair share of debates - from the impacts of consumerism to how they affect retail workers. It's heartening to see
some of our local businesses taking these concerns seriously, focusing on sustainable practices and healthy work environments. So, as Black Friday and Cyber Monday roll around, it's a time of excitement and opportunity for both shoppers
and shops. It's a chance for businesses to show off what they've got and for us, the shoppers, to nab some deals. But amidst the rush, let's also remember the bigger picture and support your local retailer at this time of year.
Irish Surfer Dominates Ireland's Biggest Wave Red Bull sponsored athlete Conor Maguire demonstrated his exceptional surfing skills last week at Mullaghmore Head, Sligo, riding the enormous swells off Ireland's West coast. Originating from Bundoran in County Sligo, Maguire has a long-standing relationship with Mullaghmore's waves, having started surfing there at just 11 years old. Now 29, he's a well-established figure in the 'Big Wave' surfing community. Maguire's prowess was notably recognized in 2020 when he conquered what is believed to be the largest wave ever surfed on Ireland's West coast. This remarkable feat, involving a towering 60foot wave, brought him into the limelight, earning him nominations in several prestigious categories such as 'Biggest Tow', 'Ride of the Year', and 'Performer of the Year'.
In a 2023 interview with RTÉ Lifestyle, Maguire shared his deep passion for surfing, a sport he finds intensely captivating. He highlighted that, despite Ireland's chilly weather necessitating wetsuits, the country ranks among the world's top surfing destinations. He urged locals to seize the opportunity to enjoy these surfing spots. Describing the unique experience of surfing in Ireland, Maguire remarked on the gratification of challenging oneself to brave the often-harsh weather conditions, finding the experience extremely rewarding. He emphasized that the allure of Irish waves draws enthusiasts from globally renowned surfing spots like Hawaii and Australia, who are willing to endure the tough Irish weather for a chance to ride these extraordinary waves. This international interest, according to Maguire, cements Ireland's status as one of the premier surfing locations globally.

Kerry Bog Pony Society teams up with Bunratty Castle and Folk Park The Kerry Bog Pony Cooperative Society has teamed up with Bunratty Castle and Folk Park in County Clare as part of a joint initiative to preserve and promote awareness of one of Ireland's rarest breeds of pony. The popular visitor attraction, which already is home to a range of Irish native breeds, has engaged with the Society to secure a pair of Kerry Bog Ponies for its farm. The Kerry Bog Pony has experienced a resurgence in recent years having declined in numbers throughout the 20th century to only 26 known mares and 6 stallions in 1990. Today there are around 450 ponies with approximately 50 foals being registered each year. Little is known of the origins of the Kerry Bog Pony. The original ponies identified by John Mulvihill were located in South Kerry. Based on their genetics it has been suggested that the ponies could have been imported by the Vikings who had an encampment at Beginish near Valentia Island from the 10th to the 12th century. "We are very grateful to The Kerry Bog Pony Cooperative Society for the support they have given us in reaching out on social media to pony breeders and
owners across the country with a view to securing a pair of ponies,” explained Niall Moloney, Farm Manager at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. “One of our primary missions in Bunratty is to increase awareness of native Irish breeds and how they have formed part of our social and cultural history in Ireland down through the centuries,” he continued. “We are looking to expand on our collection of native Irish animals from Droimeann cattle to Irish Wolfhounds and from Irish Red Deer to Tamworth pigs, and, in doing so, help to preserve and promote our heritage.” Tomás Rosengrave, Chair of The Kerry Bog Pony Cooperative Society commented, “We are very excited to have the opportunity to work with Bunratty Castle and Folk Park on this project and in the future on educating all visitors to the Folk Park on our native Kerry Bog Pony while also celebrating its heritage and character. The Kerry Bog Pony is a very versatile breed, makes an excellent child’s riding pony but also excels in many equestrian sports such as carriage driving for adults. We are delighted that all visitors to the Bunratty Castle Folk Park Farm will have the opportunity to get know this great Irish breed of pony.”

“If something sounds too good to be true...” Bank of Ireland is warning con consumers to be especially vigilant for fraud as Black Friday and Cyber Monday approach. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are key cononline shopping dates for many con sumers, which also means fraudsters will be stepping up their activity. Bank of Ireland customers spent 54% more comonline during Black Friday last year com pared to a standard Friday, with clothing (+104%) and electrical goods (+100%) seeing the largest increase. FriFor those shopping online this Black Fri day or Cyber Monday, Bank of Ireland is providing tips to stay safe. Black Friday / Cyber Monday tips: • Be careful with links in emails and texts – Fake links can lead to fake websites where you may be asked to share your personal banking details including activation codes. • Do not share your banking details, including your full online banking PIN, or other personal information. • Think before you click – make sure you double check website addresses for anything unusual. • Use trusted websites – check that the ‘https’ and the lock symbol is displayed. Exercise caution with Pop ups on your social media feed (fraudsters can pay to have their ads in front of you). • On a mobile device use trusted apps – it can be difficult to see the full web address on mobile if you are using a web browser so instead stick with trusted apps.
• Use up to date anti-virus software on your computer – this will help protect it against malware. Nicola Sadlier, Head of Fraud, Bank of Ireland said: “We are already starting to hear about Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, but shoppers need to be extra vigilant for fraud. Fraudsters like to inject an element of urgency into their offers or fake adverts, but don’t rush a transaction without checking things properly first. Verify if websites and apps are legitimate and be extremely careful with online adverts, texts or e-mails. Remember, if something sounds too good to be true, it’s probably fraud.” To coincide with the busy pre-Christmas shopping period, Bank of Ireland has launched a new national fraud advertising campaign, reminding customers to Stop, Think and Check. The Bank is publishing a series of ‘True Crime’ videos with renowned cyberpsychologist Professor Mary Aiken providing insights and tips to help people protect themselves.

the pre-ramp holding area will extend into Main Street to where the ramp used to be previously located. These are just one of many changes announced at the launch on Sunday. It was already revealed that the rally will not visit Moll’s Gap this year but will feature the return of Caragh Lake for the first time in three years. A new stage near Killorglin, previously used in the Rally of the Lakes, but never for the Historic Rally has been added to
It’s all change as new-look Killarney Historic Rally details announced The Killarney Towers Hotel on College Street was officially announced as the event’s new title sponsor and headquarters. The Killarney Towers Hotel & Leisure Centre is part of the ODR Collection of high-quality hotels in Killarney and the launch took place in a sister premises, The Killarney Plaza Hotel & Spa.
The Plaza, also home to Café du Parc and The Tan Yard Restaurant will be the place to be on Friday, December 1. The traditional town centre start ramp, always the first event in the Christmas in Killarney Festival, will be placed directly outside the town centre hotel. For the first time, the cars will approach the ramp from the opposite side meaning

the event schedule. There will be a sting in the tail too for competitors, as a night stage has been reintroduced for the first time in many years. Clerk of the course Anthony O’Connor said: “Our plans are at an advanced stage to create a motorsport festival on the streets of Killarney town, the two-day festival event will begin with a ceremonial start in the town centre on Friday at 7 pm on December 1.

17.11.2023 “Saturday morning starts with fast-flowing but technical Dromin followed by sweeping and classic Carragh Lake and the fast-flowing Kilgobnet stage. “Then into service at Liebherr Container cranes Killarney. This Loop is repeated and into service again, before heading out to take on Rockfield in daylight, as service again in Liebherr and out to complete the final stage of Rockfield in darkness. “The top three crews from each class will arrive back in Killarney for the finish ramp at 7 pm outside the Killarney Plaza Hotel." The event's associate sponsors are media and print partners The Killarney Advertiser and official vehicle supplier, Reen’s of Rathmore, Main Peugeot, Fait, DS and Jeep dealers for Kerry.
LEADING HISTORIC ENTRIES
Some of the leading entries for the December 2 rally were also announced at the launch. They include defending champion Jonathon Greer Niall Burns in their Ford Sierra Saphire Cosworth. The local contingent will be led by Alan Ring of the ODR Collection and his co-driver Adrian Deasy in a Subaru Legacy RS. They have finished on the podium for the last two years and will be aiming to make it to the top step this time around. The 2023 Irish Historic Rally Champions Duncan Williams and Guy Weaver are on the entry list too in their Ford Escort RS1800. “Following on from last year's successful event which for the first time ever saw 150 cars starting on stage one. It is hoped that this year's event will be bigger and better, unfortunately, Molls Gap is out for this year due to roadwork but the choice of spectator-friendly stages and a short road section has once again appealed to competitors from far and near, including the USA, Australia, Belgium, The UK and both Northern and Southern Ireland,” added Mr O’Connor.
INTERNATIONAL ENTRIES
Fan favourite, Belgian Paul Lietaer returns in his Opel Ascona 400. The London Irish Motor Club is represented by Paul McDevitt, the recently
crowned Triton Shoers National Historic Champion in his Ford Escort. Former winner, Welsh man Melvyn Evans and his Cork-based Sean Hayde will compete in a Ford Escort. The London-based Graham family are best known for competing in FIA European Historic Rally Championship events. Ernie Graham and Anna Graham have entered a Ford Escort RS while Will Graham and Karen Graham will drive a BMW E30 M3. Former Dakar Rally competitor, Londoner, Harry Hunt, and his Welsh co-driver Steve McPhee return for a second year in another Ford Escort. England’s Les Allfrey has been coming to Killarney since the mid-1980s and he and co-driver Keith Fellowes return in their Austin Mini Cooper S. Welsh drivers Berian Richards and Tomas Davies are familiar faces too around Killarney and both will drive Ford Escorts.

BMW BRIGADE
Aside from the Graham’s example, there are several other BMW M3 E30s on the entry list. Donagh Kelly and Rory Kennedy will drive their Bastos example while local crew Paul Ahern and Kieran Murphy will debut a newly built example. Michael Cullen and Sean Hassett have competed in European rallies since their last appearance in Killarney and return in their M3.
WORLD CHAMPION
Belfast’s Liam Regan guided William Creighton to the Junior World Rally Championship in a Ford Fiesta Rally 3 but he switches to the driver’s seat and will campaign a Skoda Estelle 130 L in Killarney on the first weekend in December. Regan’s Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy teammates Eamonn Kelly and Conor Mohan have entered a Ford Escort RS1800. John Meade and Owen Mulcahy will drive a newly restored Peugeot 205 GTi, once campaigned by 1995 World Rally Champion Colin McRae. Brothers Eoghan and Cian Fogarty will drive their Per Eklund Toyota Corolla Twin Cam.

In loving memory of Timothy Somers Barraduff, Killarney who died on 22nd November 2003 and his mother Marian Somers 31 Deerpark Crescent, Killarney who died on 19th December 2013. Did you know that when you cry for your dead, you cry for you and not them? When your loved ones die, you cry because you ‘Lost them’, because you don’t see them by your side and think they are not anymore. So if your dead are no more, where are they? Yes, they have left, they are somwhere else, is that place better than this? Definitely it is better, so why do you suffer for their departure? When you have finished accepting they are gone, and now in a much better place then this, where they are no longer sick, in pain or suffering, then you will stop mourning them, and get them back in happy memories, so they keep accompanying you with the joy of all that you’ve lived. So, if you truly loved them, love them again, but with greater strength, purity and delivery. Today there will be no reproach of any kind, Only love will be the essence between you, between us, between them. I respect your pain, your sadness, and the way you express it. I know you cry and at times you cry without comfort. But.... TODAY I say to you: ‘Don’t die with your dead, remember we are only seeing one side of the coin (death). We are not looking the other way, we are not seeing the wonderful place of light where they stand. Carry them and your happy memories with you each day. Don’t die with your dead, honour them by living your life as they would have wanted you to, let them transcend. And you KEEP LIVING’. Never forgotten, always loved and remembered by all your family.

Fossa on the cusp of history Club from the ‘nine square miles’ just 60 minutes away from senior football KERRY IFC FINAL
_________________________________________________________________________
Fossa v Milltown/Castlemaine Sunday 2.30pm Austin Stack Park Never before in the history of Kerry football has an Intermediate final attracted so much attention. On Sunday, two clubs go head-to-head with a trophy and promotion on the line - but this high-profile encounter has far more riding on it than that. In fact, the consequences of the outcome of this second-tier decider are going to be massive. If Fossa win, they will graduate to senior for the first time in their 53-year existence. It would represent a monumental achievement for the club from the small parish to the northwest of Killarney; few, if any, believed it would ever be possi-
ble given their lowly standing as recently as a few years ago. With two generational talents at their disposal in the form of the Clifford brothers from Two Mile, they have rapidly risen through the ranks. Now they are seeking their second successive promotion following on from last year’s extra time win over Listry in the Junior Premier final. And if the idea of Fossa going out on their own in the Kery Senior Football Championship wasn’t intriguing enough on its own, there’s more. A Fossa win would mean that East Kerry, winners of four of the last five titles, would lose their Fossa contingent for 2024. Most notable amongst that cohort are Paudie and David Clifford, unquestionably the district’s two most influential players. There is plenty of intrigue
from Milltown/Castlemaine’s perspective too. The Mid Kerry side are aiming to get back to senior level for the first time since being relegated in 2016 following defeat to Kilcummin in a playoff. They were not considered to be amongst the frontrunners for this competition before a ball was kicked, and possibly not after the group stage either, so victory this weekend would be sweet. Of course, a Milltown/Castlemaine win would also have a huge bearing on the 2024 County Championship. Mid Kerry (runners-up in 2020, 2022 and 2023) stand to lose five starters if Milltown are promoted: Pa Wrenn, David Roche, Gavin Horan, Cillian Burke and Éanna O’Connor. Such a loss would greatly weaken their hand and widen the gap that already
exists between them and the reigning champions. Add to that the fact that East Kerry will keep the Cliffords if Milltown/ Castlemaine win, and the significance of this game is magnified further still. There is so much at stake for all the invested parties in East and Mid Kerry, and there is plenty to consider for the neutral fan as well. Many would welcome the weakening of East Kerry’s squad as it would potentially lead to a more competitive County Championship. However, there is serious concern amongst Kerry supporters that the Cliffords are in need of a rest after a long couple of years with club and county. If Fossa prevail they will advance to the Munster Championship and possibly beyond if they manage to keep on winning. This would likely interfere with their star players’ off-season. There’s no doubt that the nature of Fossa’s matches to date have whetted the appetite for this final. They were involved in exhilarating extra time victories over Castleisland and Austin Stacks in the previous rounds and more excitement of that nature would be more than welcome after a largely disappointing County Championship. Milltown/Castlemaine also bring plenty to the table and although the momentum from their own semi-final heroics against Legion may have dwindled somewhat over the many weeks between then and now, they can certainly take heart from that result against one of the pre-tournament favourites. It’s all set up to be a fascinating match-up and a large crowd is expected in Tralee for this one. MAIN MAN: David Clifford helped Fossa to win the All-Ireland Junior Club Championship earlier this year. Can he and his teammates continue on their upward trajectory on Sunday? New Kerry shirt inspired by 1984 All-Ireland win | By Adam Moynihan The new Kerry GAA home jersey for 2024 was unveiled on Thursday morning with kit makers O’Neills opting for a more traditional, pared back iteration of the iconic green and gold geansaí. Inspired by the shirt worn by Ambrose O’Donovan and co. when they defeated Dublin in the 1984 All-Ireland final, the 2024 version has been very warmly received by supporters, some of whom were underwhelmed by the 2020 and 2022 efforts. Last year’s v-neck collar has been replaced by a ribbed knit crewneck while O’Neills’ stripes have been relocated from the sleeves to the sides of the body. Gone, too, are the sublimated patterns which proved unpopular in recent seasons, the end result being a classic yet modern garment that is sure to be a big seller in the lead-up to the busy festive season. The jersey will be worn by all the county’s football, hurling and camogie teams in 2024 and presumably in 2025 (each of the previous three home shirts enjoyed two-year cycles). Star players from all four codes were on hand to launch the jer-
sey at Fitzgerald Stadium with photographer Diarmuid Greene capturing some stunning images at the famous Killarney venue. Male footballers David Clifford, Paudie Clifford and Gavin White were joined by ladies footballer Ciara Murphy, camogie player Niamh Leen and hurler Fionán Mackessy to model the eye-catching new design, which is available to buy now at the Kerry GAA Store in the Killarney Outlet Centre. It can also be purchased online at kerrygaastore.ie. “With this jersey, the classic green and gold colours have a deeper tone to intensify the importance and significance of these colours to the people of Kerry,” Kerry GAA said in a statement. “Embracing the tradition of teams from years gone by and building on their success, ambition and glory, this jersey is deeply rooted in the jersey of the 1984 All-Ireland winning Kerry team who paved the way for so many more to follow. This statement piece combining the vintage elements with modern characteristics embodies the message of Kerry GAA – always building on tradition when moulding future vision.” O’Neills added: “As the jersey is unveiled, we echo the pride of Kerry GAA, uniting the past, present, and future. It will no doubt be an exciting year ahead for Kerry GAA and we wish them the best of luck for the season ahead.” Follow @AdamMoynihan on Twitter for a chance to win a Kerry 2024 home shirt courtesy of the Kerry GAA Store.

All-Star awards up for decision | By Eamonn Fitzgerald Tonight we will know the All-Star selections for 2023. Last week I made some predictions. We’ll know later if they match up. The official selections will be revealed well before The Late Late Show. Few sports followers will agree with the hurlers and footballers who will receive these prestigious awards. Continuing that stream of consciousness, I call out my legends of some of the sports of interest, many from the past. Mick O’Connell, Georgie Best, Lester Piggott, Christy O’Connor Sr, Mike Gibson, Sonia O’Sullivan, Henry Shefflin, DJ Carey, Colm Cooper and (already) David Clifford. They, for me, are the standout icons of pure class in their respective sports. Are they the best ever? The jury fails to bring in a unanimous verdict. The question will always be answered unsatisfactorily. We may have great sporting heroes now and we may have better someday. Time will tell. That is my selection, very personal and making no claims of proper judgement. Other sports’ aficionados
WINNERS: Seán O’Shea and Paudie Clifford on stage at the PwC All-Star Awards at the Convention Centre in Dublin.
will have their own selections and they will be correct; that is, correct for them, but most likely disputed by other readers of this sports column.
TOP 50
Colm Keys is a sports journalist whom I rate highly and he recently presented his top 50 Gaelic Footballers of 2023 in the Independent newspaper. Here’s his top ten: David Clifford, Brian Fenton, Shane McGuigan, James McCarthy, Brendan Rogers, Colm Basquel, Stephen Cluxton, Conor McCluskey, Shane Ryan and Seán O’Shea. Below is his reasoning for selecting some of the Kerry players he did. 1. David Clifford. He scored 5-42, 3-21 from play and 0-3 from marks, but it was the quality of the scores against the opponents he faced and pressure he was always under that once again elevated his contribution. He still scored 0-2 from play and set up 1-2 in the All-Ireland final, his pass for Paul Geaney's goal was
only bettered in the season by his 'blind' delivery for Tony Brosnan to tee up Seán O'Shea against Tyrone. 9. Shane Ryan. Like Cluxton, scarcely put a foot wrong and was magnificent in the Munster final a denied Gareth McKinless in one of the crucial moments against Derry. Great kick-out service and command of his area. Scored a point from play against Derry too. 10. Seán O'Shea. Chalked up 2-39, 2-15 from play and 0-2 from marks. 12. Tom O'Sullivan. The scores dried up in the last two games but from corner-back O'Sullivan still contributed 0-9.
17.11.2023 17. Paudie Clifford. Scored 2-10 throughout and was at his best in the second half of the All-Ireland final when he scored three points. 26. Gavin White. Strip out the 1-1 from All-Ireland final turnovers and White had a superb year, full of hard running again. Had early trouble against Derry's Paul Cassidy but got a goal having been thwarted for an earlier chance. 28. Jason Foley. Held Brian Hurley, Sam Mulroy and Darren McCurry scoreless from play in what were his most effective displays, but James Carr, Shane McGuigan and Paul Mannion were more trouble for him. 32. Diarmuid O'Connor. Scored 1-7 overall and had his best game for Kerry against Tyrone when he contributed 1-2 to stem the influence of the Conn Kilpatrick-Brian Kennedy axis. 41. Tadhg Morley. Not as effective as 2022 but still made important interventions against Tyrone and did well on O'Callaghan in the final. We will see tonight how many of these players are rewarded for their efforts with All-Stars.

The heart beats for plucky Fossa | By Eamonn Fitzgerald I expect this to be the best Kerry football game of 2023, and God knows it is long overdue. Even staunch critics of the modern game will be tempted to travel to Austin Stack Park, Tralee on Sunday next for the Kerry IFC final between Milltown/Castlemaine and Fossa. Will the impossible dream become a reality for Fossa? A win would propel them to go out on their own in next year’s Kerry senior championship having come from next to nowhere in a few short years. The late great Fr Galvin Fossa PP must be well in above, delivering home miracles. Crowned All-Ireland Junior Club champions in the final in Croke Park in January, they raced through the intermediate grade and only Milltown/Castlemaine can prevent the unimaginable. Éanna O’Connor will have to score six points from frees for Milltown, and he is well capable of that as he showed against East Kerry recently. That will maintain the interest.

It won’t be left to the Cliffords to do all the scoring The Clifford brothers will be on the scoreboard, but it won’t be left to them to do all the scoring. There are lifelong learners supporting the efficient and effective footballing teachers. They have some grand players to guide the Clifford yacht safely ashore. Head says Milltown/Castlemaine, but the heart beats for Fossa.
Super Saints claim 2023 FAI Cup | By Eamonn Fitzgerald Best known by their faithful followers as ‘Saints’, ‘Super Saints’, or simply ‘Pat’s’, the Inchicore side St Patrick’s Athletic won the FAI Cup for the fifth time by beating Bohs 3-1 on Sunday last. on Sunday last. Bohs scored first before a record crowd of 43,881 at the Aviva Stadium when Jonathan Afolabi converted a penalty. But Mark Doyle had St Pat’s level before half-time with a header. They kicked on in the second half thanks to an OG, and Tommy Lonergan wrapped it up with a powerful third goal.
CON AND THE CAMAC
Con Houlihan was a great supporter of the Saints, even when they weren’t saints, and he would certainly have been very proud of the team sited near Heuston Station. Invariably, he championed the underdog in sport. Just once in a lifetime the club
that scraped to put out a team against the always-winning top dogs reminded me of a piece he wrote for one of Pat’s match programmes many years ago. “Rivers like the Camac, which runs through Inchicore, are good for people: they are natures psychiatrists. I spent a very happy little stint in Clondalkin when the Red Cow pub was a long, whitewashed house where people played draughts in one corner. What the name means I am far from sure; my guess is that it signifies ‘the commonage by the river’. Inchicore is very much in the centre of things; the main road to the south runs past one side; the main railway line on this island runs past on the other side.” I’ve no doubt the musings of the wordsmith from Castle Island (his spelling as distinct from the regular ‘Castleisland’) were missed in last Sunday night’s celebrations. Hold the back page. No need any longer. The Irish Press has sailed into oblivion; its offspring The Evening Press had a similar fate. It was a double tragedy.

Home double header for St Paul’s The St Paul’s women’s and men’s teams are both in National League action this Saturday at Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre with their games tipping off at 4.30pm and 7.30pm respectively. James Fleming’s ladies take on the Phoenix Rockets on the back of that disappointing cup exit at the hands of the Cavan Eagles a fortnight ago and they will be keen to get back to winning ways on home turf. Paul’s have a perfect 100% record in Division 1 but they are sure to be tested by the Rockets, who gave a fine account of themselves over the course of the 2022/23 season. They beat Paul’s in Lisburn last February, though the Killarney side exacted revenge in the playoffs in March. The Rockets have made an inconsistent start to the 2023/24 campaign picking up just two wins from the seven games played. The second of those victories came as recently last Saturday when they got the better of the Limerick Sport Eagles at home, but they fell to another defeat against the Huskies back up north the following day. The Rockets are coached by former Ireland player Breda Dick, a woman who cites Killarney's own Paudie O'Connor as her role model. Paudie was her first coach at international level and obviously left a huge mark on Breda. Dick will be looking to the McGrath sisters Charly and Georgie to carry the torch for them as well as American signing Jay Ashby. For Paul’s, Khiarica Rasheed has been building a good understanding with Sofia Paska and they will be keen to work
on that partnership again on Saturday. In the absence of Lorraine Scanlon, who will be attending the LGFA AllStars, Meabh Barry may be pushed up the ladder. Lynn Jones and Rheanne O'Shea will also be expected to play prominent roles. LAKERS Under the guidance of Coach Brian Clarke, Scotts Lakers have established a winning record of 4-2 and as a result they find themselves fifth out of 12 teams in Division 1 of the National League. They claimed their latest win at home to the Dublin Lions last weekend (8171) with Americans Braden Bell (26) and Terion Moss (25) accounting for the bulk of the scoring. Jamie O’Sullivan, Oisín Spring and Cian Forde also made their mark on the scoreboard. Coach Brian Clarke was very pleased with the contribution of his subs on the night. "Our bench was ready to come on and make the difference and I can't emphasis enough the importance of that,” he told club PRO Enda Walshe. “Braden and Terion are great shot-makers but they also have a sharp eye for passes to their teammates. Oisín Spring, and Paul Clarke in previous games, are alive to that and make themselves available. It's a great opportunity for our young players to make their mark and provided they continue to dedicate themselves to their craft, they will get to enjoy that.” Next up for the Lakers is the visit of the Limerick Celtics on Saturday. The Shannonsiders are currently second in Division 1 having won five of their six matches to date.

SPORT NOTES
Killarney Athletic RESULT: Killarney Athletic 1-1 Holy Cross. Holy cross win 4-2 on penalties. Heart break for the lads to lose on penalties we started the game well and should have been up only for the holy cross keeper making brilliant save from Ben Kelleher the second half was a much tighter affair in which we took the lead from a brilliant header from Sean Kiely Holy Cross got there equaliser with minutes to go, it went to extra time with no chances created by either side. Penalties didn’t go our way but every one of the lads should be proud of themselves. Mark O’Carroll was superb at the back and Liam Harmon was brilliant man of the match was Bryan O’Connor. U12B: Killarney Athletic 4 LB Rovers 3. In a thrilling, end-to-end encounter, the home team faced an early setback, conceding the first goal. Undeterred, the lads showcased resilience, turning the tide before halftime with a 2-1 lead. The away team came out strong in the second half and regained the lead. In a final twist to a highly entertaining match, a spirited comeback saw us secure a hard-fought 4-3 victory. Goals, determination, and teamwork defined a superb performance on the pitch. Thanks to LB Rovers for a competitive, sporting contest. Goalscorers: Trey Hurley (2), Daragh O’Toole, Freddie Glinwood. U13 GIRLS DIVISION 1: Camp 6 Kill Ath 0. Girls travelled for a game against league leaders Camp. It was a pretty much one sided game where Camp pinned Athletic back and created a lot of chances. Despite a lot of effort in defence by Athletic, Camp managed to start to find the target a pulled ahead. Eventually finishing up 6-0 to Camp. U12 DIVISION 2: The lads made the trip to Camp FC today and in the end came away with an excellent victory. Some great individual performances but more importantly a great team performance. Thanks to Camp FC for a sporting game and good luck to them for the rest of the year. U13 GIRLS PREMIER: Killarney Athletic 4-2 Killorglin. Aoife Kelleher, Ella Crowley, Roisin O’Sullivan, Zoe O’Neill. Great performance by all our Girls today. Thanks to Killorglin for a very Sporting Game. U12 NATIONAL CUP: Killarney Athletic 2-0 Lisnagry. Lucas Uchytil, Sean Quill. The boys U12 A team move onto the next round of the National Cup with a big win over Lisnagry FC (Limerick). The conditions were tough today for the lads up in Limerick with a tough away fixture against a strong Lisnagry side. The boys went up 1-0 with 25 minutes into the first half with a lovely volley by Lucas Uchytil. His hard work and effort won the ball away from Lisnagry in their own half and finished with a lovely volley to the top corner
to put the boys up 1-0 at half time. The lads came out strong again in the second half and should have been up by more with their ferocious pressing and had a couple great chances to go ahead by more but was thwarted by two great saves by the Lisnagry keeper. Sean Quill gave the boys some breathing room with a lovely composed strike from outside the box with 10 minutes remaining to go up 2-0. Ewan Marshall kept another clean sheet with a strong performance and made an important save on a 1v1 to keep the lead in the second half. Player of the match was Lucas Uchytil. Big thanks to all the travelling parents who supported the team all the way through. Special thanks to the Ukrainian horn section which added to the celebrations! (Well done Elena:) Thanks to Lisnagry FC for a very sporting match and lovely hospitality.

U17 BOYS: Our minor boys fell to a narrow two point defeat in the East Kerry Minor Division 2 final played before a large crowd who were treated to an exciting game with attacking football to the fore. The opening quarter was evenly matched with the sides sharing ten points. Glenflesk then struck for two quick goals. However we responded with a goal of their own and five points separated the sides at half time, 2-9 to 1-7. We started the second half brightly under the Direen lights and threatened a goal. A fine save from the Glenflesk goalkeeper foiled us and in the blink of an eye , much like the first half Glenflesk struck for two quick goals to take control and a ten point lead with fifteen minutes to play. We didn’t panic and actually dominated the remainder of the game and reduced the lead to two points as the game entered injury time. Laying siege to the Glenflesk goal , we could not find the goal we needed. Thanks to Mike Brosnan for refereeing , Eamon Maguire for having the pitch in fantastic condition , Amy Walshe for operating the scoreboard and congratulations to Glenflesk on their win.
